That is the clearest current record claim in the available sources—but they do not establish a definitive, comparable ranking of the ten highest sales across all auction houses. The examples below are a sourced selection, not a verified top ten. Prices remain in their reported currencies, are not inflation-adjusted, and may use different buyer-fee conventions.
What is the most expensive Titanic memorabilia sold at auction?
Henry Aldridge & Son’s Titanic department page identifies Isidor Straus’s gold pocket watch as the auction house’s record Titanic memorabilia sale, at £1.78 million. The page does not state whether that figure includes the buyer’s premium, so it should be read as the auction house’s reported figure, not a universally audited market-wide record. Its current page also names the John Jacob Astor watch at £1.17 million and the Archibald Gracie letter at £300,000. Henry Aldridge & Son’s Titanic department was accessed in 2026.
The results below are notable high-value sales rather than a strict rank order. Sources mix auction-house highlights, hammer-style figures, and totals that include buyer charges; they also report results in pounds or dollars from different years. No single available source applies one fee convention, currency conversion date, and complete all-market inventory to every sale.
Which Titanic artifacts sold for the most?
This comparison preserves each source’s reported currency and fee details. Where the sale date or fee basis is not given in the cited record, it is identified as unstated rather than inferred.

How much did the Titanic watches sell for?
Isidor Straus’s gold pocket watch
At £1.78 million, this is the highest Titanic memorabilia result identified on Henry Aldridge & Son’s current Titanic page. Straus, a passenger who died in the sinking with his wife Ida, is the named owner associated with the watch. The auction-house listing supplies the sale figure but does not specify the treatment of buyer’s premium.
Sir Arthur Rostron’s gold pocket watch
The watch given to Carpathia captain Sir Arthur Rostron by three women survivors sold for £1.56 million on November 16, 2024. The Associated Press reported that this total included taxes and fees paid by the buyer and that it went to a US private collector. AP’s report on the Rostron watch sale provides the sale date and fee qualification.

John Jacob Astor’s pocket watch
Associated Press reported the Astor watch at £1.17 million in 2024, noting that it had previously held the record. Henry Aldridge & Son’s current page also lists it at £1.17 million. The sources do not provide a consistent fee qualification for comparing this figure directly with the Rostron watch’s buyer-inclusive total.
How much did the Titanic violin and lifejacket sell for?
Wallace Hartley’s violin
The violin associated with bandleader Wallace Hartley has two materially different reported results. Henry Aldridge & Son’s 2026 retrospective gives £900,000 and dates the sale to October 2013. A SEC-filed appraisal instead lists $1,867,932 for a 2014 sale. Because the dates and price bases are not reconciled by the sources, these figures should not be merged into a single normalized result. Henry Aldridge & Son’s retrospective and the SEC-filed appraisal provide the differing reports. Titanic Belfast describes the violin and its inscription; that account supports the object’s historical identification, not the auction-price reconciliation. Titanic Belfast’s violin account.

Laura Mabel Francatelli’s lifejacket
Francatelli’s lifejacket sold for £670,000 in April 2026; AP reported the equivalent as $906,000 and said the total includes buyer’s premium. AP described it as signed by Francatelli and other survivors in her lifeboat, and as the only lifejacket from a Titanic survivor ever sold at auction. That is narrower than saying it is the only surviving Titanic lifejacket: Titanic Belfast says an original lifejacket is in its collection and describes twelve as remaining worldwide. AP’s report on the 2026 lifejacket sale and Titanic Belfast’s lifejacket page describe those distinct claims.
What did Titanic letters, menus, and other objects bring?
Letters and onboard papers
Henry Aldridge & Son reports £300,000 for Archibald Gracie’s onboard letter, calling it a record for Titanic-related paperwork. Its listing does not state whether the amount includes buyer’s premium. A SEC-filed appraisal records a separate 2014 sale: a letter written by Eva and Esther Hart on the day of the disaster sold for $230,019. These are different letters and should not be conflated.

- Historical Design: Features the same turquoise and brown Wisteria pattern used in the 1st Class dining rooms and verandah cafes of the RMS Titanic.
- RMS Titanic Replica: Identical pieces replicas have been retrieved from the wreck of the RMS Titanic, offering a genuine piece of history replica.
- Elegant Craftsmanship: Made with high-quality materials, this set is perfect for afternoon tea in a light and airy setting, just like the Verandah Cafes on the Titanic.
- Contents: One cup and one saucer.
The SEC-filed appraisal also reports a 2014 sale of a second-class onboard menu for $168,166. Titanic Belfast’s museum page gives an approximate purchase figure of $122,000 for a different object, the first-class last-lunch menu; it is not the second-class menu. The SEC-filed appraisal and Titanic Belfast’s last-lunch menu page identify the separate records.
Lifeboat cushion and deck chair
A Titanic lifeboat seat cushion sold for £390,000 in the April 2026 auction. AP reported $527,000 as the equivalent and said the price included buyer’s premium. A deck chair highlighted by Henry Aldridge & Son sold for £101,999 plus buyer’s premium. RR Auction records a different Titanic deck-chair lot at $67,375 including buyer’s premium, so the two chair results are not one sale or directly interchangeable. RR Auction’s deck-chair listing.

Why these prices are difficult to rank
“Titanic memorabilia” covers very different things: passenger possessions, onboard papers, a band instrument, survivor-linked safety equipment, a lifeboat item, and ship furnishings. Some records come from auction-house highlight pages; others come from press reports or a filed appraisal. Those sources do not present every sale with the same currency, date, fee basis, or documentation.
For example, Henry Aldridge & Son’s Titanic page separately lists a plan at £220,000 plus buyer’s premium; an April 14 menu and lamp-trimmer storeroom keys at £140,000 plus buyer’s premium; an April 2 menu at £101,000 plus buyer’s premium; a unique walking cane at £100,000 plus buyer’s premium; and a letter at £126,000 plus buyer’s premium. The page does not give enough sale-date and comparability detail to place all of these confidently in a market-wide top ten. A strict ranking would need a complete catalogue of sales and a consistent treatment of fees, currencies, and dates.
What provenance tells buyers about an auction result
A high auction price is not, by itself, independent proof of an object’s history. Henry Aldridge & Son says its team traces ownership and compares historical records and photographs. Its managing director Andrew Aldridge put the emphasis plainly: “Due diligence is absolutely vital, provenance is the byword with these objects.” That describes the auction house’s approach; readers should distinguish an auctioneer’s attribution and documentation from independent authentication.
For a collectible tied to a passenger or survivor, the useful questions are what links the person to the object, what records support that link, and whether the sale report identifies a complete chain of custody. The strength and specificity of that evidence can vary by lot; the named association should not be treated as proof of every detail unless the cited documentation establishes it.
