But it is not a ranking of television salaries: Forbes’ list, published March 6, 2024, covers actors’ earnings from entertainment projects and consists almost exclusively of movie income.
Highest-paid actors in Forbes’ 2023 ranking
Forbes estimated that these ten actors earned a combined $449 million for projects released in calendar year 2023. The figures below are the estimated amounts after representation fees; the gross estimates Forbes showed alongside them appear in parentheses.

| 2 | Margot Robbie | $59 million | $78 million |

| 4 (tie) | Ryan Gosling | $43 million | $50 million |
| 4 (tie) | Matt Damon | $43 million | $50 million |
| 6 | Jennifer Aniston | $42 million | $56 million |
| 7 (tie) | Leonardo DiCaprio | $41 million | $48 million |
| 7 (tie) | Jason Statham | $41 million | $48 million |
| 9 | Ben Affleck | $38 million | $45 million |
| 10 | Denzel Washington | $24 million | $28 million |
These are estimates, not audited personal financial statements. Forbes describes the ranking as pretax earnings, less representation fees, for projects released in 2023. Its estimates draw on interviews with agents, lawyers, managers, executives and other industry experts, as well as IMDbPro and Polestar data. The release year is the accounting basis Forbes uses: a project may count in 2023 even if an upfront fee was paid earlier or backend participation arrives later. Forbes’ full list and methodology explain the estimates and their limits.
Why this does not answer who earned the most from TV
A TV-star ranking would need to isolate television salaries and other TV-related income. Forbes’ list instead includes actors whose 2023 earnings came almost entirely from films, and it does not provide a complete film-versus-television breakdown for every name. The Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes halted production for much of 2023, disrupting TV seasons, while theatrical-film deals and backend participation helped drive the earnings represented in the list.

There are television connections in the coverage, but they do not turn it into a TV-pay ranking. Forbes mentions Jennifer Aniston’s Friends residuals and her work on The Morning Show. That is specific context about Aniston, not a basis for assuming the other actors’ listed totals reflect TV salaries. CBS News also notes that endorsement income is excluded from the acting-income list, so the ranking should not be read as a comparison of every source of celebrity income.
What drove the top estimates
Adam Sandler: $73 million
Sandler ranked first. Forbes cited Netflix viewing data showing that viewers streamed more than 500 million hours of his movies in the first half of 2023. The figure helps explain his streaming value, but it is viewing time—not a payment amount or a measure of his earnings by itself.
Rank #2
Margot Robbie: $59 million
Robbie ranked second. Forbes estimated she received roughly 12.5% of Barbie’s backend profits, which it expected to exceed $60 million. That projected participation is not the same as a confirmed cash payment during 2023; the estimate is tied to a film’s release-year earnings basis.
Tom Cruise: $45 million
Cruise ranked third, with a $53 million gross estimate. His position is part of a film-heavy list, not evidence of a comparable television salary.

How to interpret the numbers
- They are not net worth. The ranking estimates project-related, pretax earnings after representation fees; it does not measure actors’ total assets or debts.
- They are not necessarily cash received in 2023. Forbes attributes earnings to a project’s release year, even where payment timing differs.
- Gross and listed earnings are different measures. Forbes presents the gross estimate alongside the amount after its representation-fee treatment. Compare like with like rather than mixing columns.
- The income mix is not itemized uniformly. The list and accompanying reporting discuss film work, streaming arrangements, residuals, stand-up and backend participation, but do not give a complete source-by-source breakdown for each actor.
For a useful comparison, keep the calendar-year release basis, fee treatment and type of work in view. The ranking supports a comparison of Forbes’ estimated actor earnings for 2023 projects; it does not establish who had the highest TV salary or total celebrity income.
