Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the company on a bottle or can determine who owns the brand?
No. A beverage may be made, distributed, or sold by a bottler, distributor, wholesaler, or retailer. Those roles do not, by themselves, make that business the brand owner. The Coca-Cola Company’s 2025 Form 10-K describes its use of independent bottling partners and other distribution businesses, as well as its own bottling and distribution operations, while separately identifying Coca-Cola as a brand it owns and markets. A bottler’s involvement does not mean PepsiCo owns Coca-Cola or that the two parent companies have merged.
