But the figures often attached to her wealth are historical estimates, not a verified picture of what she is worth today: Forbes estimated her 2015 earnings at $2.5 million, while a separate estimate put her 2017 net worth at $10.5 million.
How Lilly Singh became known as Superwoman
Singh began posting videos on YouTube around 2010, initially using the name Superwoman. She had adopted the name as a child after hearing a hip-hop song by Lil’ Mo; in 2019, she told WIRED the name felt empowering. She later dropped the persona name and went by Lilly.
At the outset, Singh did not describe YouTube as a financial plan. In a 2015 York University alumni profile, she said she did not think the platform could become a career or provide sustainable income. She had an idea and wanted a way to express it creatively.
What made her videos connect with an audience
Singh’s early videos mixed parent impersonations, hip-hop parodies, and observational comedy. Her portrayals of Punjabi and South Asian family life, including immigrant parents and second-generation Indian experiences, gave viewers a perspective they did not often see represented in the same way.

The audience grew substantially over time, but subscriber counts are snapshots rather than permanent measures. PBS reported four million subscribers and more than three billion views in 2019. The Washington Post reported 14.5 million subscribers in 2023. Those dated figures should not be presented as her current subscriber total.
What the reported money figures mean
Two commonly cited amounts refer to different financial measures and different years. Neither is an audited disclosure or a current net-worth figure.

| Figure | What it measures | Attribution and context |
|---|---|---|
| $2.5 million | Estimated 2015 earnings | Forbes estimate reported by BBC Asian Network in March 2016. The report said the estimate included revenue associated with Singh’s two YouTube channels, a 27-city tour, a film, and other projects. |
| $10.5 million | Estimated net worth in 2017 | Forbes estimate reported by The Washington Post in 2023, which said Forbes ranked Singh tenth on its list of the world’s highest-paid YouTube stars. |
Earnings describe money generated over a period; net worth is an estimate of assets minus liabilities at a point in time. The 2015 earnings estimate and 2017 net-worth estimate cannot be added together, and neither establishes Singh’s present-day wealth. A reliable current figure is not established by these reports.
Why YouTube was only one part of her career
Singh’s earnings story is better understood as a move across entertainment formats than as a fortune from YouTube alone. The 2015 estimate itself included projects beyond her channels, and her career later extended into television, publishing, production, nonprofit work, and film.

Television and production
Singh hosted NBC’s A Little Late with Lilly Singh, which ran for two seasons before cancellation. She also built a production company, expanding her work beyond performing in online videos.
Books and film
Her books include How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life and Be a Triangle: How I Went From Being Lost to Getting My Life Into Shape. In a WIRED interview, Singh said How to Be a Bawse was a New York Times bestseller and described it as 50 chapters that she wrote herself. The book demonstrates the breadth of her work, but the available evidence does not quantify how much it contributed to her wealth.
Rank #4
In March 2024, ELLE reported that Singh co-wrote, produced, and starred in Doin’ It, which premiered at SXSW. That feature-film work continued her transition into projects beyond YouTube.

Singh’s trajectory illustrates why a creator’s financial success is difficult to reduce to a subscriber count. Her career combined online videos with tours, film, television, books, and production. Those activities may generate income in different ways, but the cited estimates do not break down her revenue by source or disclose her expenses, taxes, assets, or liabilities.
Best Value
For readers evaluating claims about a creator’s fortune, the useful questions are: What year does the figure describe? Is it earnings or net worth? Who made the estimate, and what activities did it include? For Singh, the reported numbers answer some historical questions, but they do not support a precise current net-worth claim.
