Sony’s U.S. PS5 price increase took effect on April 2, 2026, so the deadline to buy before the change has passed. Sony’s recommended prices are now $649.99 for PS5, $599.99 for PS5 Digital Edition and $899.99 for PS5 Pro. Those are company-recommended prices—not a guarantee of what a retailer charges today—so check current listings and stock before buying.
What Sony announced
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the U.S. price changes on March 27, 2026, citing “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” Isabelle Tomatis, the company’s vice president of global marketing, said: “We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide.” Sony’s announcement set April 2, 2026 as the effective date.
New U.S. recommended prices
Sony’s announced figures are recommended retail prices for the U.S. They show how the company’s price schedule changed, not what every store charges or whether a particular offer is available.
| Product | Recommended price effective April 2, 2026 | Prior announced U.S. price, effective August 21, 2025 | Change between Sony schedules |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | $649.99 | $549.99 | +$100 |
| PS5 Digital Edition | $599.99 | $499.99 | +$100 |
| PS5 Pro | $899.99 | $749.99 | +$100 |
The prior figures were in Sony’s August 20, 2025 U.S. price announcement. The $100 differences compare Sony’s two announced recommended-price schedules; they do not establish that every retailer charged either figure throughout that period.

Can you still avoid the increase?
Not by buying before the effective date: April 2, 2026 has passed. Sony’s announcements do not establish current retailer prices, discounts or inventory. A store may list a console above or below Sony’s recommended price, and availability can vary. Compare live listings and confirm the final price and stock directly with the retailer before deciding.

The figures above are for the United States and should not be applied to other countries. Sony directs customers in other territories to check local retailers or direct.playstation.com where available. PlayStation Portal is a remote player, not a PS5 console; Sony separately listed its U.S. recommended price at $249.99 effective April 2, 2026.
