Who owns Sheffield Wednesday after the takeover?
The English Football League confirmed on 2 May 2026 that Arise Capital Partners LLC completed the transfer of the club’s assets, bringing Wednesday out of administration. The EFL identified the consortium as David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The club’s 10 March sale-process update had named Arise as preferred bidder; that was an interim step, not the completion date.
The EFL’s completion statement is the clearest source for the final status. BBC also reported the completion. Earlier reports about competing bidders describe stages of the process that ended with Arise’s purchase.
What happened to the club’s administration and football restrictions?
The EFL said its board exercised discretion not to impose the contemplated 15-point deduction after Wednesday exited administration. That waiver did not mean the club was free of all financial controls: the EFL also said Wednesday would remain subject to a two-season budget restriction, with player registrations permitted under the terms of an agreed business plan.

Did a US billionaire visit Hillsborough?
The documented visit in the sources was by David Storch and members of his consortium for Wednesday’s match against Norwich on 5 November 2025. BBC reported Storch’s account on 24 December 2025; the administrators’ completion statement, published by BTG on 5 May 2026, also described the visit.
Those reports do not establish that John McEvoy personally visited Hillsborough. They identify him among earlier rival interests, but do not confirm a visit, its date or its purpose. Nor do the cited reports establish the “billionaire” description in the headline as a verified fact about the visitor. Storch’s documented visit should not be attributed to McEvoy.

Was Mike Ashley buying Sheffield Wednesday?
Ashley was an earlier reported bidder, but he did not complete the purchase. ITV reported on 19 December 2025 that Ashley was the sole remaining bidder, attributing that account to its understanding at the time and noting that a sale had not yet been announced and regulatory checks remained. BBC’s 24 December report described him as a rival interested party while also covering Storch’s bid. The reports were snapshots of a changing process, not the final outcome.
On 25 February 2026, The Guardian reported that the preferred-bidder consortium led by James Bord had withdrawn after due diligence and placed Ashley among the earlier interested parties. Arise was announced as preferred bidder on 10 March and completed the transaction on 2 May. The available sources do not provide a verified statement from Ashley about his final position after the sale.

What is Charlie Methven’s role?
The official club sale update named Arise Capital Partners and its three members as the preferred bidder; the EFL later confirmed Arise as the purchaser. Neither update names Charlie Methven as a member of the successful consortium or establishes that he became an owner. Any earlier reported Methven interest should therefore be treated as an unconfirmed possibility that did not establish his role in the completed deal. The available sources do not settle the full details of any bid associated with him.
