The Sheffield Wednesday takeover story has moved on from the 2025 reports about John Textor and protests against Dejphon Chansiri. The club entered administration in October 2025; a Sheffield Wednesday partnership brochure dated 15 June 2026 later said Arise Consortium had “stepped forward.” That is the club’s description of a new ownership chapter, but the brochure does not establish a completion date or explain the legal ownership structure.
What is happening with the Sheffield Wednesday takeover?
The apparent impasse between Chansiri and prospective buyer Textor belongs to reporting from 2025, not the latest account in the available sources. In August 2025, The Guardian reported that Textor had registered interest with Chansiri and was poised for takeover talks. It described an asking price of about £100m, while noting it was unclear whether Textor would offer that amount. The report established interest and anticipated discussions, not a completed bid or purchase.
In later reporting, BBC Sport quoted Textor as saying he was monitoring the situation and was looking for a traditional English club to buy or partner with. It also reported that Chansiri retained control of the club’s future at that point and noted questions about whether Textor would pass the EFL owners’ test. The cited coverage does not establish that Textor became the eventual buyer.
What happened after the 2025 takeover uncertainty?
Sheffield Wednesday entered administration in October 2025, according to The Guardian. Administrators took over day-to-day operations to stabilise the business and seek a new owner. Joint administrator Paul Stanley said their immediate priority was to keep the club operating for its next home fixture, and that they would work with staff, the Supporters’ Trust and the wider community as they sought a suitably qualified, well-financed owner.

Chansiri was described in The Guardian’s report as both the leading shareholder and a lender to the club. Its separate estimate of his loans was about £100m; that is a historical attributed estimate, not a verified current debt balance.
What does the club say about Arise Consortium?
A Sheffield Wednesday FC partnership brochure dated 15 June 2026 says, “We were a club stood at a crossroads before Arise Consortium stepped forward.” The wording presents Arise as part of a new chapter in the club’s ownership story. Because the brochure is aimed at prospective commercial partners and does not spell out the transaction, it does not by itself confirm when a takeover legally completed, the consortium’s precise ownership share, or the governance arrangements.

The available sources therefore distinguish three different stages: Textor’s reported interest in 2025; administration and a search for a new owner from October 2025; and the club’s later description of Arise Consortium stepping forward. They do not support treating Textor as the later buyer or supplying a precise current ownership breakdown.

The reviewed reporting does not verify that Chansiri ignored calls. It establishes reported interest and anticipated talks, but not what calls were made, whether Chansiri received them, or how he responded. Nor does the cited material provide an attributable direct statement from Textor establishing the “frustrations” implied by the older framing. Those phrases should not be treated as confirmed facts.

Why were Sheffield Wednesday fans taking action?
BBC Sport reported protests and boycotts intended to put pressure on Chansiri, including banners and reduced attendance. The actions were tied to supporters’ objections to his handling of the club and the financial crisis. BBC also quoted Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts urging Chansiri to sell; that was Betts’s political view, not a legal or regulatory finding.
