Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover moved beyond preferred-bidder status: the club’s joint administrators confirmed on 5 May 2026 that a sale to a consortium including David Storch, his son Michael Storch and Tom Costin had completed. The EFL also decided that the club would not receive the prospective 15-point deduction discussed during the bidding process.
Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
Arise Capital Partners LLC, led by David Storch, was selected as preferred bidder in March 2026 after an earlier preferred bidder withdrew. The administrators later named David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin as members of the consortium that completed the purchase. Their formal announcement confirmed that the transaction had completed following engagement with stakeholders, including the EFL, and in accordance with regulatory requirements. BTG’s joint-administrator announcement is dated 5 May 2026; BBC Sport reported the completed takeover on 2 May.
Storch said: “Sheffield Wednesday deserves stability, ambition and a clear direction. That is what we are here to deliver.” He also said: “We know trust must be earned.”
How did preferred bidder status become a completed sale?
- October 2025: Sheffield Wednesday filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators on 24 October, according to the later Sport Resolutions decision.
- March 2026: Arise Capital Partners, led by Storch, became preferred bidder after the previous preferred bidder withdrew.
- 15 April 2026: BBC Sport reported that the EFL had told Arise the club would face a 15-point deduction at the start of the next League One season. The report said the proposed offer represented about 6p per pound for unsecured creditors, below the 25p threshold then understood to avoid that prospective deduction. These were reports about the bid-stage position, not the final sale terms or outcome.
- May 2026: BBC Sport reported completion on 2 May. The administrators’ formal statement followed on 5 May and confirmed the completed sale and the EFL’s decision on points.
What happened to the points deductions?
Three separate figures can be confused. The first two relate to Sheffield Wednesday’s 2025–26 season; the 15-point figure was a possible deduction for the upcoming season during the sale process.

The 15-point deduction was therefore not an additional sanction imposed on top of the earlier 18 points. It was a prospective outcome raised during the bid process and later waived. The administrators also said wage and transfer parameters had been agreed.

No. A completed sale and the end of an administration are distinct milestones. Companies House’s filing history includes an administrator progress report dated 2 June 2026, the result of a creditors’ meeting dated 16 July, and a notice of extension of the administration period dated 30 August. Those are filing dates and do not necessarily identify when the underlying events occurred. They show that administration-related filings continued after the sale announcement; they do not change the administrators’ statement that the sale itself had completed.
