The club’s recent administration and the consequences surrounding the sale explain why supporters may scrutinize future ownership promises—but the specific promises implied by the earlier headline cannot be responsibly compared without the original statements.
Who owns Sheffield Wednesday now?
Arise Capital Partners, a US consortium led by David Storch, bought Sheffield Wednesday on 2 May 2026, the BBC reported. The BBC identified Storch’s son Michael and Tom Costin as the other consortium members. The EFL separately confirmed that the club was under new ownership.
The completed transaction means Chansiri’s ownership has ended. The available reporting establishes that the sale completed; it does not by itself establish whether every stated intention or commitment of the new owners has since been fulfilled.

What did administration mean for the club?
The BBC reported that Sheffield Wednesday received an immediate 12-point deduction after entering administration, followed by a further six-point deduction for payment-related charges. The club’s relegation to League One was sealed by a defeat at Sheffield United on 22 February 2026, with 13 games remaining, according to the BBC.

The BBC also reported that the EFL did not impose a further 15-point deduction after the takeover, describing the situation as exceptionally challenging and complex. These are reported decisions and consequences in Sheffield Wednesday’s case; they should not be treated as a guide to the penalties another club would face.
Can Chansiri’s promises be compared with the new owners’?
Not on the evidence established here. The earlier headline refers to “the same promises,” but the specific statements from Chansiri and the later bidder are not identified in the sources available for this account. A fair comparison needs the dated primary statements and their exact wording. It should also distinguish an announced intention from money secured, a commitment made subject to conditions, and an action actually completed.

What rules apply to a future change of control?
The EFL’s acquisition-of-control guidance says a potential takeover is subject to requirements of both the EFL and the Independent Football Regulator. The EFL says the ODSE regime began on 5 May 2026 and that it is working with the regulator to meet the relevant requirements. Anyone assessing a later proposed deal should consult the EFL’s current guidance, since regulatory requirements can change.
