U.Today reported on August 20, 2024, that Shibarium recorded 11,194 new transactions in a 24-hour period, up from 1,736 in the preceding comparison period—a reported increase of 644.8%. The same report said daily active accounts rose from 237 to 1,103, or 465.4%. These are historical figures, not current activity levels, and a one-day jump alone does not establish lasting adoption or increased demand for SHIB.
What did the 644.8% Shibarium surge measure?
The figure refers to a reported change in new transactions over a prior-24-hour comparison. U.Today said Shibariumscan showed the count rising from 1,736 to 11,194 and described that move as a 644.8% increase. The report was published August 20, 2024; it is not a current network statistic. U.Today’s August 20, 2024 report attributed the numbers to Shibariumscan.
A percentage increase compares the change with the earlier count. Because the starting figure was 1,736, the reported rise is striking in percentage terms, but the percentage does not by itself show whether activity remained high afterward or whether the transactions represented meaningful economic use.
Transactions and active accounts are different measures
The same U.Today report put daily active accounts at 1,103, up from 237, a reported increase of 465.4%. Transaction count measures activity recorded as transactions; active accounts count accounts active under the explorer’s metric. One account can make multiple transactions, so the two figures should not be treated as interchangeable measures of people or users.

The report floated possible explanations, including indirect attention from SunPump, a recently launched platform on Tron, and recent gains in SHIB’s price. It did not demonstrate that either factor caused the increase. The reported counts establish a short-term movement as described by the news article, not its cause.
What the spike does—and does not—say about adoption
A single 24-hour comparison cannot establish a durable increase in network adoption. To assess whether activity became a trend, readers would need comparable measurements across a longer period, along with context about unique users, the nature of transactions, and the economic value involved. The reported transaction and account counts alone do not establish those points or show that SHIB’s price was driven by Shibarium usage.

Historical verification is also limited: the current Shibariumscan explorer page does not reproduce the August 2024 snapshot. The page identifies as a Blockscout explorer and warns that some counts may be inaccurate while it indexes the chain. That current warning applies to its live display; it does not establish that the historical report was inaccurate, but the current page cannot independently confirm the old comparison.

The headline percentage is not, on its own, a reason to buy or sell SHIB or another digital asset. It describes reported network activity over a brief window and does not establish a causal link to token prices, future activity, or investment returns. Treat it as a historical data point rather than an investment signal.
