Search-indexed text for Mashable’s “9 tech titans in the Epstein files” identifies six people: Bill Gates, Reid Hoffman, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos. It does not substantiate the full nine-person list or show the documentary context for each name. A name appearing in Epstein-related records, on its own, does not establish wrongdoing or a particular relationship.
Which names are identified?
The accessible search-indexed text for Mashable’s article identifies:
- Bill Gates
- Reid Hoffman
- Elon Musk
- Peter Thiel
- Mark Zuckerberg
- Jeff Bezos
That indexed text does not establish who the other three people in the headline may be. It also does not provide enough person-by-person detail to say what record refers to any one of the six. The list above is therefore not a verified reconstruction of all nine people named in the article.
What does a name in the files prove?
By itself, a name’s presence in Epstein-related material proves only that the name appears in a record. It does not establish criminal conduct, knowledge of crimes or the nature of a relationship. The significance depends on the specific document and its context.

#1 Best Overall
For example, a direct message, a third-party mention, a calendar entry and contact information are different kinds of material. Those distinctions should be made only after checking the underlying record; the indexed text available here does not establish which, if any, applies to each person named above.
What the DOJ’s Epstein Library can—and cannot—show
The U.S. Department of Justice describes its Epstein Library as a repository of materials responsive under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Its page said “Last Updated: September 11, 2026,” and DOJ says it may add documents if it identifies more for release.

DOJ cautions that some materials, including handwritten documents, may not be electronically searchable and that search results may be unreliable. A search that returns no match is not proof that a record does not exist; any claim about a search should specify what was searched and how.
How to assess a specific claim
Before drawing a conclusion about an individual, look for the record itself and establish what it says. A useful account should identify the document’s date and source, explain whether the reference is direct or comes from someone else, and distinguish what the document states from what it does not establish. Any response from the person or their representative should be included only when it has been verified.

Why some details are redacted
DOJ says it redacted material to protect victims’ names and other identifying information. It also warns that sensitive information may inadvertently remain in the library. Those notices are a reason to avoid repeating personal identifying details and to treat exposed sensitive material with care.
