The largest clearly reported purchase in the available accounts is Simon Cowell’s $24 million Malibu compound, bought in 2017. Other reported property deals and older accounts of cars and lifestyle spending fill out this list, but the evidence does not establish an audited ranking of his nine most expensive purchases. The entries below are selected notable reports, with each amount identified by what it represents and when it was reported.

How to read this list

These are nine notable reported purchases or expenditures, not a verified top-nine ledger. Property transaction reports are distinguished from asking prices, resale prices and estimates; older car and lifestyle figures are period claims, not current valuations. Current ownership is not established for every item.

Simon Cowell’s nine notable reported purchases and expenditures

1. Malibu compound — reported purchase price: $24 million in 2017

The Los Angeles Times reported that Cowell paid $24 million for a gated compound in Malibu. The nearly two-acre bluff-top property included a six-bedroom, seven-bathroom main house of more than 8,600 square feet, a tennis court, swimming pool, koi pond and ocean views. The report noted that the property had previously been listed at higher asking prices; those asking prices are not the amount reported as paid. Los Angeles Times, December 11, 2017.

2. Beverly Hills home — reported purchase price: $15.5 million

The same Los Angeles Times report said Cowell bought a Beverly Hills home from former AEG Live chief Randy Phillips for $15.5 million. The paper attributed the figure to sources not authorized to comment publicly. At the time, the house was being shopped off-market in the $30 million range—an asking range, not a reported purchase price. Los Angeles Times, December 11, 2017.

3. Holland Park house — reported sale figure: £15 million in 2023, disputed

The Guardian reported that Cowell’s London home had been offered at about £45 million and that the buyer’s lender put the sale at £15 million. A source close to Cowell disputed the circulating figures, calling them “ludicrously wrong,” and also rejected the claim that the agreement took four days; Cowell’s spokesman did not respond to the paper’s requests. The £15 million figure therefore should not be treated as an uncontested final sale price. The Guardian reported that Cowell had lived in the house for 16 years and decided to leave London after burglaries and home invasions. In a statement to a court, Cowell said, “There is a constant fear it may be repeated and that it may be worse next time.” The Guardian, March 20, 2023.

4. Earlier Beverly Hills mansion — reported purchase: $8 million in 2004

Celebrity Net Worth says Cowell paid $8 million for a Beverly Hills mansion in 2004, spent five years renovating it and sold it in August 2020 for $25 million. These are retrospective figures from a secondary biographical source, rather than a contemporaneous transaction account in the cited coverage. The reported $25 million is a sale price, not another purchase. Celebrity Net Worth.

5. Hidden Hills equestrian estate — reported purchase: $3.9 million in 2020

A trust tied to Cowell bought Leona Lewis’s Hidden Hills property for $3.9 million in August 2020, according to the Los Angeles Times. The estate included a main home, guesthouse, pool, stable and riding arena. It was listed for $3.7 million just ten days later and sold for $3.6 million in October. This was a brief purchase and resale, not evidence that Cowell retained the estate. Los Angeles Times, October 15, 2020.

6. Bugatti Veyron — historical reported price: £750,000

The Evening Standard reported in 2008 that Cowell had bought a Bugatti Veyron for £750,000. Celebrity Net Worth later listed a black Veyron in his collection and described its approximate base price as $1.7 million. These are different currencies, dates and kinds of figures: the Standard’s historical report of a purchase and a later approximate base price. Neither should be presented as a current valuation or used to infer what Cowell paid in dollars. Evening Standard, 2008; Celebrity Net Worth.

7. Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe — historical reported price: £400,000

The Evening Standard’s 2008 profile also reported a £400,000 price for a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe bought by Cowell in the same period as the Veyron. This is a historical newspaper figure, not a current car price or independently documented transaction record. Celebrity Net Worth later included the model among cars associated with Cowell but did not establish his individual purchase price. Evening Standard, 2008; Celebrity Net Worth.

8. Clothing and shoes — period spending claims

The Evening Standard’s 2008 profile said Cowell spent £5,000 on T-shirts during a shopping trip and bought handmade Berluti shoes at £1,000 a pair. These are reported examples of spending from that period, not a documented annual budget, lifetime total or verified ranking against his property and vehicles. Evening Standard, 2008.

9. Hotel stays and private jets — reported recurring indulgences, not owned assets

The same 2008 Evening Standard profile reported hotel stays at Sandy Lane costing £3,000 per night and private-jet trips with stated prices starting at £11,000. These are historical expenditure claims, not purchases of a hotel or aircraft, and the article does not establish how often Cowell incurred those costs. Evening Standard, 2008.

What is Simon Cowell’s most expensive purchase?

Among the cited reports, the strongest reported purchase amount is $24 million for the Malibu compound in 2017. That is a reported historical price, not a current valuation. The Holland Park figures involve a disputed reported sale, while the other dollar and pound amounts refer to different years and to purchases, sales, base prices or spending estimates; they cannot be ranked as if they measured the same thing.

What cars does Simon Cowell own?

Celebrity Net Worth lists a black Bugatti Veyron, Caterham 7 CSR, Ferrari 360, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe and Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe among Cowell’s cars. That secondary list does not establish current ownership or individual transaction prices. The older Evening Standard profile provides historical reported prices for the Bugatti and Rolls-Royce, but it is not a current inventory or valuation. Celebrity Net Worth.
