For September 2026, the lowest reported average flight prices in one Skyscanner-attributed list range from $230 to $273: Asheville, Fort Lauderdale, Myrtle Beach, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, and Nashville. These are reported averages—not guaranteed fares for every route—and Syracuse is tied with Nashville at the displayed price. Your departure airport and dates can change what you actually pay.
Seven low-fare destinations in the September 2026 report
Travel Noire published a list attributed to Skyscanner that gives average flight prices for U.S. destinations in September 2026. The following seven appear among its lowest displayed prices. They are not all-in trip costs or live quotes, and the report does not provide the underlying Skyscanner dataset or explain how it resolved the tie for the last spot. Read Travel Noire’s report.
| Destination | State | Reported September 2026 average flight price |
|---|---|---|
| Asheville | North Carolina | $230 |
| Fort Lauderdale | Florida | $252 |
| Myrtle Beach | South Carolina | $253 |
| San Francisco | California | $268 |
| Chicago | Illinois | $269 |
| Miami | Florida | $270 |
| Nashville | Tennessee | $273 |
Syracuse, New York, is also listed at $273. Because the prices are shown in whole dollars, Nashville is not uniquely seventh; the two destinations tie at the reported precision.
Why another September fare list has different cities and prices
A separate Going list uses historical deal data for September 2025–2026, not the same measure as the Skyscanner-attributed averages above. Going reports historical average roundtrip deal prices of $156 for Charleston and $169 each for New York City and Raleigh. Those figures describe past deals and are guidance, not a promise that a traveler can book those fares now. See Going’s September recommendations.

Skyscanner’s broader U.S. destination guide also identifies September as the cheapest time to fly to Oakland and Myrtle Beach, but it does not provide a directly comparable September-only top-seven table. View Skyscanner’s U.S. destination guide.
How to check whether a destination is affordable for your trip
Compare the same kind of fare
Check whether a number is an average, a past deal, or a fare available for your chosen dates. Confirm whether it is one-way or roundtrip and review the ticket’s rules and included services before comparing. A historical deal price and an average destination price should not be treated as equivalent.
Search your origin and dates
Airfare depends on the departure and arrival cities and the dates you travel. Search from your own airport, test nearby airports if practical, and compare flexible dates. The reported September averages do not establish what any specific traveler will pay.
Budget for the whole trip
A low airfare does not make a destination inexpensive overall. Add likely baggage charges, lodging, meals, and airport transportation to your comparison. Travel Noire specifically identifies baggage, accommodations, and dining as additional expenses that matter when judging affordability. Read its fare and cost caveats.

Factor in seasonal conditions and airport access
Convenience can matter as much as the ticket price: a nearby airport with more flight options may be preferable to a cheaper itinerary with difficult ground transportation. Travel + Leisure’s account of Dollar Flight Club’s 2026 forecast describes a methodology that considers gateway access, stability, traveler value, and airport options; that is a separate forecast, not the method used for the September 2026 list. Read Travel + Leisure’s account.
Seasonal context can also affect the value of a trip. A July–September comparison from The Points Guy—not current September 2026 fare data—notes that Myrtle Beach’s lower-fare period overlaps the region’s general June-through-November hurricane season. Consider travel conditions when deciding whether a low fare suits your plans. See The Points Guy’s seasonal comparison.
