Location checks for mobile purchases require Location Services and Wi-Fi, and purchases are limited to eligible Players Club users physically in Georgia.
1. Check whether Georgia Lottery has posted a service notice
If the app and galottery.com both fail, check the Georgia Lottery maintenance page and official website for a current notice before changing phone settings. Maintenance can temporarily interrupt service, but a notice found earlier—or a search result showing one—does not establish that the service is down now.
2. Update the app from its official store listing
Open the Georgia Lottery app listing in the Apple App Store or Google Play and install an available update. Store details can change. Apple’s listing surfaced version 5.8.4 and an April 28 release date, but the year was not stated in the listing extract; check the live listing for the current version and device requirements rather than relying on those older details.
3. Restart the app and your phone
Close the app completely, reopen it, and if it still will not load, restart the phone and try again. This is a basic troubleshooting step, not a fix specifically documented by Georgia Lottery. The official app is for iOS and Android phones and tablets; its FAQ says Windows Phone is not supported.

4. Fix location verification errors
If the app opens but cannot verify your location for an online purchase, Georgia Lottery’s FAQ says both Location Services and Wi-Fi must be enabled. The device does not have to be connected to Wi-Fi internet; Wi-Fi needs to be on. If the app or galottery.com asks for location permission, allow it while using the service.
- Turn on Location Services in your phone’s settings.
- Turn on Wi-Fi, even if you plan to use cellular data.
- Allow location access when prompted for the app or mobile website.
5. Disable settings that can interfere with location checks
Georgia Lottery says VPN, remote desktop, and proxy applications must not be running during location verification. On Android, disable mock-location settings. Rooted or jailbroken devices cannot be used to make purchases, according to the FAQ.

For a sign-in problem, choose “Forgot Password” and complete the email reset flow. Check the spam folder if the reset message does not arrive. Georgia Lottery says repeated incorrect password attempts lock an account for 24 hours.

If the app still will not open
Try galottery.com in your phone’s browser as an alternative for online play while physically in Georgia. Ticket scanning, winning-number lookup, nearby retailer search, and Players Club features are app functions; online purchasing is a separate service with account and location requirements. An app problem does not by itself mean you are eligible to buy online: selected purchases require an upgraded Players Club account and an in-state location.
