Navy Federal, America First, BECU, Patelco and First Tech have useful published business-account details to compare; First U.S. is a more tentative option because the available fee schedule is dated 2024.
Compare the six credit unions at a glance
The figures below come from the institutions’ published materials identified in each row. They are not a uniform market survey: the sources have different effective dates, and some do not publish enough detail here to make a like-for-like comparison. Check the current business disclosure before applying.
| Credit union and account | Published terms | Key qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Navy Federal Business Checking | No monthly service fee; 30 included non-electronic transactions; $0.25 per additional non-electronic item. Navy Federal’s current business account page lists 0.01% APY for standard checking. | Business membership requires Navy Federal membership; all owners of a multi-owner business must be individual members in good standing. (Navy Federal Credit Union business account page and fact sheet.) |
| Navy Federal Business Plus | $8 monthly; 50 included non-electronic transactions; 0.01% APY listed on the current account page. | The published fee page shows a $5,000 average daily balance for a fee waiver. (Navy Federal Credit Union business account and fee pages.) |
| Navy Federal Business Premium | $20 monthly; 100 included non-electronic transactions; tiered earnings listed on the current account page. | The source lists tiered earnings but does not specify the tiers in the available account details. (Navy Federal Credit Union business account page.) |
| America First Basic Business | No monthly maintenance fee; 50 items included, then $0.15 per additional item. | The fee schedule describes this account for businesses with fewer than 50 monthly items. Source: America First Credit Union fee schedule dated June 2025. |
| America First Premier Business | $10 monthly fee; can be rebated with 35 credit or debit card transactions in a month. | High-volume option; confirm the full current fee schedule. Source: America First Credit Union fee schedule dated June 2025. |
| America First High-Yield Business and Non-Profit Business | High-Yield Business: $15 fee, deposit-based rebate condition and per-item charges. Non-Profit Business: up to 50 items without a monthly fee. | The available fee schedule does not specify the high-yield rebate threshold or per-item charges. Source: America First Credit Union fee schedule dated June 2025. |
| BECU Basic and Interest Checking | No monthly maintenance fee; no charges on electronic debits and credits; free bill pay, online, mobile and telephone banking, remote check deposit, and business ATM, debit and deposit-only cards. Free-item allowances depend on combined account balances. | Interest Checking APY was 0.10%, effective August 3, 2026. The available page does not give the balance-based free-item allowances. (BECU business page and rates.) |
| Patelco Business Checking | $100 opening deposit; $10 monthly fee waived with an average daily balance of at least $1,000; 100 transactions included monthly; $0.25 per additional transaction. | The product page lists a cash-deposit fee after a stated threshold, but the threshold is not specified in the available details. (Patelco Business Checking page.) |
| First Tech Business Checking | No monthly fee listed; $100 minimum opening balance; 0.00% APY effective September 1, 2026. | Available details do not state transaction limits, cash-deposit terms or other fees. Business membership is subject to approval for every owner. (First Tech business product and rates pages.) |
| First U.S. business services | $35 eDeposit (remote deposit capture) fee listed. | The available pricing schedule is effective August 1, 2024, and does not establish enough current account terms for a confident comparison. (First U.S. Credit Union business pricing schedule.) |
Which credit union may fit your business?
Navy Federal: compare tiers against transaction volume
Navy Federal offers three business checking tiers, making it possible to weigh a no-monthly-fee account against a larger included non-electronic transaction allowance. The paid tiers only make sense if their additional included items or other account features justify the monthly charge for your business. The current account page lists 0.01% APY for standard and Plus checking and tiered earnings for Premium; rates can change, so confirm the applicable yield when opening.
Eligibility is a central constraint: the fact sheet says business membership is available exclusively to Navy Federal members, and every owner of a business with multiple owners must be an individual member with accounts in good standing. That requirement may rule out the account regardless of its fee structure. Navy Federal’s fact sheet was updated in March 2022; use it for the stated ownership rule, but verify current membership terms and any services mentioned in older materials.

America First: consider its basic and nonprofit options
The June 2025 fee schedule provides a useful item-based comparison for Basic Business and a separate option for nonprofit organizations. Premier Business may suit a business that can meet the monthly card-transaction condition for a fee rebate, but the condition is activity-based rather than a balance waiver. High-Yield Business may be worth a closer look for businesses able to satisfy its deposit-based rebate condition; the available schedule details do not establish that threshold or the per-item charges. Confirm eligibility and current terms directly before choosing among these options.
BECU: weigh digital features and balance-linked allowances
BECU lists remote check deposit, free bill pay and multiple digital banking channels for its business checking accounts, alongside no monthly maintenance fee. Electronic debits and credits are not charged, while the free-item allowance depends on combined account balances. That makes the account especially important to evaluate using your expected balance and transaction mix, rather than assuming all item types are unlimited. Its Interest Checking APY was 0.10% effective August 3, 2026; confirm the live rate before opening.

Business membership is limited by field-of-membership rules. BECU’s cited eligibility page lists Washington and certain counties in Oregon and Idaho, as well as occupational and associational routes. It also requires a business member-share savings account. Check whether your entity and owners qualify under the current rules, not merely whether an individual owner can join personally.
Patelco: consider whether the balance waiver is realistic
Patelco’s published account terms give a clear monthly transaction allowance and a stated way to avoid the maintenance fee: maintain an average daily balance of at least $1,000. If your normal operating balance is likely to fall below that level, include the monthly charge in your cost comparison. The page also identifies cash-deposit fees after a threshold; request the exact threshold and charges if your business regularly handles cash. Check geographic and membership eligibility, as well as the page’s listed business-type exclusions, before treating the account as available to your business.

First Tech: a possible fit if you verify the missing fee details
First Tech lists no monthly fee on its product page, a $100 minimum opening balance and 0.00% APY effective September 1, 2026. The published details available here are less complete than those for several other candidates: item allowances, access terms and other fees are not stated. Its product page says business membership is required and subject to approval for every owner, including owners who are not signers. Ask for the current business account disclosure before comparing it with accounts whose transaction terms are clearer.
First U.S.: treat the published fee schedule as a lead, not a current recommendation
The available First U.S. business pricing schedule is effective August 1, 2024 and lists a $35 eDeposit remote-capture fee, along with other service fees. It does not provide enough current account, eligibility or transaction information to rank First U.S. confidently against the other choices. Request current account and membership documents before making it a finalist.

How to choose a business credit union account
- Confirm eligibility first. Ask whether the business entity qualifies and whether each owner must qualify individually. For multi-owner businesses, clarify whether the rule applies to all owners or only signers; Navy Federal and First Tech publish requirements that include every owner.
- Estimate monthly transaction activity. Separate electronic debits and credits from checks, deposits and other non-electronic items. Compare the included allowance and the charge for exceeding it with a typical month and a busy month.
- Test fee waivers against real operating behavior. Use your likely average daily balance or card transaction count, not an aspirational target. Include the maintenance fee if the waiver condition is uncertain.
- Price cash handling and remote deposit separately. If you deposit cash, ask for thresholds, fees and branch access near your locations. If you rely on remote capture, verify any service charge and enrollment requirements; First U.S.’s dated schedule, for example, lists a fee for eDeposit.
- Check the exact access rules for business accounts. Confirm business online banking, mobile features, remote check deposit, card access and who can be a signer. Consumer-account features do not automatically establish business-account availability.
- Confirm rates and disclosures immediately before opening. The cited account details have differing effective dates. APYs, fees, eligibility rules and service charges can change; rely on the current official disclosure and ask the credit union to explain any term not shown clearly online.
What the published comparisons do not establish
The available official materials do not support a universal ranking based on service quality, account-opening experience, mobile-app performance or transaction workflows. Nor do they provide an independent cross-institution statistic showing which credit union produces better business-checking outcomes. Compare the account terms that matter to your business and verify the practical details directly rather than treating a published feature list as a service test.
