1. Change the search location in Marketplace
Start in Marketplace and search for the item you want. Then open the location control for that search—depending on your device, it may appear as a place name, map pin, or option inside a filter panel.
- Search Marketplace for the item or category.
- Open the current search location.
- Enter the town, city, postcode area, or neighbourhood where you want to search.
- Apply or save the location change.
This controls the area Marketplace uses for that search. It is useful when you are shopping near work, helping someone in another town, or willing to collect from a particular area. It is a search setting, not a promise that your existing listings, seller location, or every result will change.
2. Reduce the distance or radius

Marketplace → search for an item → Sort by → Distance
Marketplace can also offer an order such as Date listed. Date is useful for finding newly posted deals, but Distance is the better choice when collecting locally is the priority.

Sorting and radius are different tools. The radius defines the workable search area; sorting by Distance puts the closest matching listings first. Use both rather than treating one as a substitute for the other.
4. Apply only the filters shown in your current Marketplace view
Open Filters in the search results and review the choices Facebook currently gives you for that item and category. Marketplace supports result filtering, but Facebook does not document one universal, cross-device filter named Local pickup.

Marketplace availability and features can vary by country and account. A new or inactive account, an additional profile, or an account with Marketplace restrictions may have different access. If an option is absent, use the location, distance, and sorting controls you do have, then verify listings individually.
5. Confirm pickup or meetup terms on the listing before committing
This is the final check that makes a local deal genuinely local. Open each promising listing and look for the seller’s chosen meetup preference. On local-transaction listings, Facebook may show details such as door pickup, door dropoff, or public meetup.
If the listing does not clearly say whether collection is possible, message the seller in Marketplace or Messenger before arranging payment or travel. A concise message is enough:
Hi, is this still available for local pickup in [area]? If so, what collection or public-meetup arrangement works for you?
Confirm the exact pickup area, timing, price, condition, and whether the item is collection-only. Do not assume that a nearby seller will meet, that a listing without a shipping label is pickup-only, or that a listing marked for shipping cannot also be collected.

Why shipped listings can still appear
Seeing some shipped listings does not necessarily mean your location setting failed. Marketplace’s documented location, distance, filters, and distance sort can make results more local, but they are not a documented global guarantee to suppress every listing that offers shipping.
Use this recovery sequence:
- Re-open the search location and confirm the correct town or area.
- Reduce the radius.
- Set Sort by to Distance.
- Apply any delivery or pickup-related filter that your current results show.
- Open the remaining listings and confirm the seller’s meetup preference or ask directly.
If you are selling: offer local pickup when your listing flow allows it
Seller settings are not identical for every Marketplace user. Shipping and checkout are not available to all users, so there is no universal instruction to switch shipping off in Settings.
When your listing flow provides a delivery-method choice, select local pickup rather than shipping or checkout if local collection is what you want. Then make the arrangement unmistakable in the listing text—for example:
Local pickup in [area]. Public meetup preferred. No shipping.
