5 Best Reseller Web Hosting Providers: Highest Value in 2026

20i leads for panel-agnostic value, while KnownHost and InMotion are stronger cPanel choices. Compare renewal costs, WHMCS, resources, branding, and upgrade paths before buying.

20i is the best overall value for a reseller who does not require cPanel. Its US reseller plans combine white-label hosting, private nameservers, automation, unlimited bandwidth, and a 500-account tier without stated LVE limits. If standard WHM and cPanel are essential, KnownHost is the strongest value-oriented choice. InMotion Hosting is the better all-in-one cPanel package because it includes WHMCS and eNom domain-reseller tools. ScalaHosting is attractive for a growing agency willing to use SPanel, while Namecheap has the most predictable entry-level renewal price.

Pricing snapshot: US-facing prices and product pages checked August 10, 2026. Prices are in USD and can change with billing term, location, taxes, promotions, and license availability. The ranking considers recurring cost, included billing tools, usable resources, account separation, white-label capabilities, support, migration, and the path to larger infrastructure.

Quick verdict

Provider Best for Entry price and renewal Accounts Panel and billing Main limitation
1. 20i Best overall value without a cPanel requirement $1 for the first month, then $19.99 per month 25 on Reseller 25; up to 500 on Reseller 500 My20i/StackCP; HostShop included; WHMCS compatible Not standard WHM/cPanel
2. KnownHost Traditional cPanel value for agencies $16.96 per month on a three-year term; $19.95 renewal on Basic+ 25 to 100 WHM and cPanel; WHMCS optional Modest storage and account quotas on lower tiers
3. InMotion Hosting All-in-one cPanel reseller package $19.99 per month introductory; $35.99 renewal on R-1000N 25 to 100 WHM, cPanel, WHMCS, eNom Large renewal-price increases
4. ScalaHosting Low-cost scaling with a cloud reseller plan $13.45 per month on a 36-month term; $39.95 renewal Cloud plan advertises no fixed account-count cap; cPanel plans have quotas SPanel cloud reseller or cPanel/WHM plans; WHMCS separate Unlimited accounts does not mean unlimited resources
5. Namecheap Predictable entry-level budgeting $19.88 per month, renewing at $19.88 25 on Nebula; up to 150 WHM and cPanel; WHMCS paid separately Only 30 GB storage on the entry plan

These are editorial rankings, not independent uptime or performance test results. A plan that is inexpensive per account can still be a poor choice for busy ecommerce sites, email-heavy businesses, or websites with unusually high CPU and database demand.

What reseller hosting actually gives you

Reseller hosting lets you buy hosting capacity from an upstream provider, divide it into separate client accounts, and sell those accounts under your own pricing and brand. The upstream host supplies the server, network, operating-system management, control-panel infrastructure, backups, and much of the security work. You create packages, provision accounts, set prices, and usually provide first-line customer support.

That is different from:

  • Affiliate marketing: you refer customers and receive a commission; you do not operate their accounts or provide their support.
  • Agency hosting: you may manage several websites from one account, but clients may not receive independent hosting accounts, invoices, or control panels.
  • VPS hosting: you rent a virtual server and gain more control, but you may also become responsible for server administration, security, backups, updates, panel licensing, and incident response.

WHM, cPanel, and WHMCS are not the same thing

  • WHM is the reseller or server administrator interface used to create packages, accounts, resource limits, DNS settings, and suspensions.
  • cPanel is the client-facing control panel for files, databases, email, domains, SSL, backups, and application tools.
  • WHMCS is a separate business-automation product for client records, invoices, recurring payments, automated provisioning, suspension, termination, domain registration, and support tickets.

A plan can include WHM and cPanel while leaving WHMCS out. That difference can change the real monthly cost by tens of dollars, so the hosting price alone is not an adequate comparison.

How the five were ranked

The editorial weighting gives the most importance to costs that continue after the promotion ends and to resources that determine how many real websites a plan can handle:

  • 25%: long-term price, renewal economics, and billing commitment
  • 20%: storage, CPU, RAM, bandwidth policy, account isolation, and practical capacity
  • 15%: billing and provisioning automation
  • 15%: white-label branding, private nameservers, and domain reselling
  • 10%: backups and security features
  • 10%: support and migration assistance
  • 5%: data-center choice, panel compatibility, and upgrade considerations

Account counts are quotas, not performance guarantees. The useful comparison is the combination of account count, total storage, CPU, RAM, inodes, entry processes, I/O, email limits, backup policy, and overselling rules.

1. 20i — best overall value if cPanel is not mandatory

Choose 20i when you want to host many client sites under your brand, use a provider-native billing platform, and are comfortable with a proprietary control panel. It is the strongest raw value in this group for a panel-agnostic reseller.

Plans and pricing

Plan Promotional price Price after promotion Hosting accounts Notable capacity
Reseller 25 $1 for the first month $19.99 per month 25 Unlimited bandwidth; storage specification should be checked at checkout
Reseller 50 $1 for the first month $39.99 per month 50 Unlimited bandwidth and unlimited SSD storage
Reseller 500 $1 for the first month $69.99 per month 500 Unlimited bandwidth and unlimited SSD storage

See the 20i US reseller plan details for current limits and availability. At the listed recurring prices, the capacity-only cost is about $0.80 per maximum account on Reseller 50 and about $0.14 per maximum account on Reseller 500. Those figures are not a promise that 500 busy sites will perform equally well; CPU, RAM, databases, email, and fair-use policies still determine practical capacity.

Why it is good value

  • White-label reseller hosting and private nameservers are included.
  • 20i advertises no LVE limits, which avoids the traditional CloudLinux LVE quota model used by many cPanel hosts.
  • Unlimited bandwidth is listed on all three tiers.
  • HostShop, a free WHMCS alternative, supports customer billing, hosting provisioning, multiple currencies, and additional services such as web design or advertising. Details are available in 20i’s HostShop documentation.
  • The platform includes a reseller API and can support domain, hosting, SSL, VPS, and other service upsells.
  • 20i lists free migrations, 24/7/365 support, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

The important trade-off: My20i and StackCP instead of WHM and cPanel

20i uses its own My20i and StackCP platform rather than the conventional WHM-for-resellers and cPanel-for-clients arrangement. 20i presents the platform as designed for load balancing and autoscaling. That can reduce traditional panel-license friction and make a large account-count plan more economical, but it also creates switching costs.

If your workflow depends on cPanel backups, WHM packages, cPanel plugins, cPanel-specific documentation, or standard cPanel transfer tools, test the platform before moving client sites. Client training is another cost: a customer familiar with cPanel will need to learn StackCP.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Nameserver and migration qualification

Domains do not generally have to be registered with 20i for ordinary hosting. However, 20i’s documentation says its virtual nameservers require the domain to be registered or transferred to 20i and to use 20i nameservers. That is narrower than saying every domain must be transferred. Review 20i’s package and external-domain documentation and its virtual nameserver requirements before promising a particular DNS arrangement to clients.

20i describes a proprietary Migration Centre rather than a conventional cPanel account-transfer workflow. Confirm in advance whether files, databases, mailboxes, DNS records, SSL certificates, cron jobs, PHP versions, logins, and billing data will transfer as expected. Its migration documentation is at 20i’s reseller migration guide.

Best fit and poor fit

Best for: agencies with dozens or hundreds of lightweight sites, international resellers needing multiple currencies or locations, and businesses that want an integrated client-management system.

Avoid if: clients require cPanel, you rely on cPanel-only plugins, you need root-level server control, or you want to run your own WHMCS installation rather than use HostShop or another compatible system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verdict: 20i wins on account-scale economics and operational integration, but only when the proprietary platform is acceptable.

2. KnownHost — best traditional cPanel value

Choose KnownHost when familiar WHM and cPanel workflows, per-account isolation, and low recurring pricing matter more than included billing software.

Plans and pricing

Plan Displayed starting price Displayed renewal Storage cPanel accounts Bandwidth
Basic+ $16.96 per month on a three-year commitment $19.95 per month 40 GB NVMe 25 2,000 GB
Standard+ $22.06 per month on a three-year commitment $25.95 per month 80 GB NVMe 50 3,000 GB
Professional+ $30.56 per month on a three-year commitment $35.95 per month 120 GB NVMe 75 4,000 GB
Premium+ $50.96 per month on a three-year commitment $59.95 per month 200 GB NVMe 100 Unlimited

The $16.96 figure is not a normal month-to-month price; it is tied to the three-year billing selector shown on KnownHost’s reseller page. At the displayed Basic+ renewal price, the hosting component is about $239.40 per year before any WHMCS add-on, taxes, or other extras.

What makes it attractive

  • Standard WHM and cPanel reduce client-training and migration friction.
  • KnownHost lists LiteSpeed, NVMe storage, free SSL, daily backups, CloudLinux resource isolation, and white-label capability.
  • The provider says each account is provisioned with 2 vCPU and 2 GB of RAM. Treat that as the provider’s allocation model, not as two dedicated physical cores and 2 GB of guaranteed server-wide capacity.
  • Listed locations include Atlanta, Seattle, and Amsterdam, which gives a reseller a choice for US and European audiences.

The cost that can change the ranking

KnownHost says WHMCS is available as an optional add-on rather than included by default. If you need automated invoices, provisioning, suspensions, domain registration, and support tickets, add that license to the comparison instead of comparing the $19.95 hosting renewal in isolation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Storage and account quotas are also relatively modest at the entry levels. Basic+ may be suitable for small brochure sites, but a portfolio of image-heavy sites, stores, staging environments, or large mailboxes can exhaust storage before reaching 25 accounts.

Best for: agencies already using cPanel, WordPress and PHP portfolios that benefit from LiteSpeed and LSCache, and resellers who value clearly listed per-account resource allocations.

Avoid if: you need billing software included, unlimited storage, hundreds of accounts on the entry plan, or a turnkey custom client portal without configuring WHMCS.

Verdict: KnownHost is the best conventional cPanel value when you are prepared to budget separately for billing automation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. InMotion Hosting — best all-in-one cPanel reseller package

Choose InMotion when you want WHM, cPanel, WHMCS, domain-reseller tools, white-label features, and support in one conventional reseller package. It is not the cheapest after renewal, but its included software can make the total operating cost competitive.

Plans and pricing

Plan Displayed starting price Renewal Storage Bandwidth cPanel licenses
R-1000N $19.99 per month $35.99 per month 80 GB SSD 1,000 GB 25
R-2000N $26.99 per month on displayed longer-term pricing $55.99 per month 160 GB NVMe 2,000 GB 50
R-3000N $39.99 per month on displayed longer-term pricing $75.99 per month 200 GB NVMe Unlimited 80
R-4000N $49.99 per month on displayed longer-term pricing $109.99 per month 300 GB NVMe Unlimited 100

Current details are on InMotion’s reseller hosting page. The long-term price is the number that matters for a continuing business: R-1000N rises from $19.99 to $35.99 per month, and R-3000N rises from $39.99 to $75.99.

Included business tooling

  • WHM for account and package management.
  • cPanel for each client account, with the number of licenses shown above.
  • WHMCS for billing and automated provisioning, according to the reseller product page.
  • An eNom domain-reseller account, custom nameservers, white-label branding, free SSL, and security features.
  • 24/7 support, migration assistance, US and European data-center options, and a 90-day money-back guarantee.

That bundle is why InMotion can be more economical than a cheaper host that requires a separate billing license. Its public account quotas still matter: unlimited earning potential does not mean unlimited cPanel accounts.

Support boundary

InMotion supports the reseller account holder; the reseller remains responsible for supporting the reseller’s own customers. You should therefore budget for password resets, DNS changes, website troubleshooting, plugin and theme issues, billing questions, abuse complaints, and account suspensions. Upstream support should not be treated as a free help desk for your clients.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best for: freelancers and agencies that want cPanel, WHMCS, domain reselling, white-label branding, and a longer money-back period.

Avoid if: you need the lowest long-term price, expect more than 100 accounts without moving infrastructure, or want an autoscaling proprietary cloud platform.

Verdict: InMotion is the most complete conventional package, provided the renewal cost fits your client pricing.

4. ScalaHosting — best low-cost scaling path

Choose ScalaHosting when you expect many lightweight sites and are willing to use SPanel or purchase WHMCS separately. Scala presents two different reseller products, and comparing them as if they were the same plan would be misleading.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cloud reseller hosting

The Entry Cloud reseller plan is listed at $13.45 per month on a 36-month introductory term, renewing at $39.95 per month. It lists 2 CPU cores, 2 GB of RAM, unmetered bandwidth, automatic off-site backups, a dedicated IP, SPanel, private DNS, white-label branding, and unlimited accounts. See the ScalaHosting cloud reseller page for the current offer.

At renewal, the hosting component is about $479.40 per year. The promotional rate requires a three-year commitment, so the cash outlay at signup is approximately $484.20 before taxes and add-ons, even though the price is displayed as a monthly equivalent.

Unlimited accounts here should mean no fixed account-count cap on the marketed cloud plan, not unlimited CPU, RAM, disk, email, database, or traffic capacity. Scala’s terms say overselling is disabled by default and reseller plans remain subject to resource and account policies. Review the ScalaHosting terms before selling packages based on the word unlimited.

cPanel reseller hosting

Scala’s separate cPanel reseller page lists the Scala 1 plan at $19.95 per month with up to 20 accounts, 50 GB SSD storage, cPanel and WHM, daily off-site backups, private DNS, and free SSL. The cPanel reseller page should be checked separately from the cloud offer because the panels, account limits, and resource model differ.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Billing and branding

Scala describes free migrations and white-label features such as private DNS, branded dashboards, custom logos, and masked control-panel URLs. WHMCS is a third-party product and must be purchased separately. If you need automated billing, add its license cost before comparing Scala with InMotion or 20i’s HostShop.

Best for: growing agencies with many small sites, resellers who already own WHMCS, and buyers comfortable with SPanel and a cloud-resource model.

Avoid if: every client expects cPanel, you want billing software included, you need root access, or you interpret unlimited accounts as unlimited hosting capacity.

Verdict: Scala may become the best value as account count grows, but only after you price WHMCS and understand the 2-core/2-GB resource ceiling on the entry cloud plan.

5. Namecheap — best predictable-budget entry plan

Choose Namecheap when stable published pricing and familiar cPanel tools matter more than generous entry-level storage. It is the easiest of the five to budget over several years because its published entry prices and renewals are the same.

Plans and pricing

Plan Price and renewal cPanel accounts Storage Bandwidth
Nebula $19.88 per month; renews at $19.88 25 30 GB SSD Unmetered
Galaxy Expert $39.88 per month; renews at $39.88 100 90 GB SSD Unmetered
Universe Pro $58.88 per month; renews at $58.88 150 150 GB SSD Unmetered

See the Namecheap reseller plans for the published prices and included features. Nebula costs about $238.56 per year for hosting at the listed rate, before WHMCS or other add-ons.

What is included and what is not

Namecheap includes WHM, cPanel, private nameservers, Softaculous, white-label tools, and access to its domain and SSL reseller ecosystem. It lists a 30-day money-back guarantee and unmetered bandwidth.

WHMCS is not included in the base reseller price. Namecheap lists WHMCS Starter at $8 per month, Plus at $27, Professional at $46, and Business at $75. Starter supports up to 250 clients but is branded; the higher-priced Plus license is the white-label option. Current license details are in Namecheap’s WHMCS licensing documentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That means Nebula plus the $8 Starter license is roughly $27.88 per month before taxes. If you need a white-label WHMCS portal, use the applicable higher license rather than treating Starter as fully branded.

Resource and email limits

The 30 GB Nebula storage limit is restrictive for media-heavy sites, stores, staging copies, or large mailboxes. Namecheap also publishes account-level CPU, memory, entry-process, and I/O restrictions. Email limits include 50 messages per hour per domain on Nebula and 200 per hour per domain on Galaxy Expert and Universe Pro. These plans are not suitable for bulk email, and ordinary hosting email should not be confused with a dedicated transactional-email service. The provider’s reseller comparison documentation lists the current limits.

Best for: small agencies with modest brochure sites, domain-focused resellers, and buyers who want predictable renewal costs and cPanel.

Avoid if: you need generous entry-level storage, host ecommerce or media-heavy websites, send significant email volume, or want WHMCS included.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verdict: Namecheap is the safest simple-budget choice, but its low uncertainty in price does not compensate for limited entry storage if client sites are large.

WHMCS and billing cost comparison

Provider Billing status Budget implication
20i WHMCS compatible; HostShop alternative included Potentially the lowest software cost if HostShop meets your requirements; verify any third-party WHMCS license separately
KnownHost WHMCS optional add-on Add the license to the $19.95 Basic+ renewal when calculating all-in cost
InMotion Hosting WHMCS included according to the reseller page Higher renewal price includes a major operating component
ScalaHosting WHMCS separate Add a third-party license to the $39.95 cloud renewal or $19.95 cPanel plan
Namecheap Paid separately $8 per month Starter, $27 Plus, $46 Professional, or $75 Business on the published license schedule
GreenGeeks Conflicting documentation The landing page says WHMCS is included, while the add-on page lists WHMCS Starter at $9.95 per month; verify at checkout
Verpex Conflicting current documentation A newer page mentions integrated WHMCS, while the FAQ says the customer buys it directly; obtain written confirmation

WHMCS is not automatically necessary. A freelancer with five clients could invoice manually or use existing accounting software. Once you have recurring clients, automated provisioning, failed-payment suspension, domain renewals, and support tickets, a dedicated billing system can save substantial administrative time. The correct choice depends on whether that time saving is worth the license fee and setup work.

Important costs that headline prices leave out

1. Promotional terms and renewal prices

Compare at least three numbers: the promotional monthly equivalent, the amount charged upfront, and the post-promotion renewal. KnownHost’s $16.96 price requires three years. Scala’s $13.45 price requires 36 months. GreenGeeks’ listed promotions require annual prepayment. A monthly equivalent can look cheap while requiring a large initial payment.

2. Billing software

As the table shows, WHMCS can erase the apparent price advantage of a low-cost reseller plan. Include the license, payment-processing fees, tax, domain-registration costs, and any support or help-desk software in your operating budget.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Backups and restoration

Daily backups do not necessarily mean unlimited retention, independent off-site disaster recovery, reseller-wide restoration, database point-in-time recovery, or recovery after a reseller accidentally deletes an account. Before relying on a host’s backups, ask:

  • How many restore points are retained?
  • Are backups stored off-site and isolated from the production server?
  • Can you restore one client account without affecting others?
  • Can deleted accounts and individual databases be restored?
  • Is restoration included or charged separately?
  • Can the reseller download an independent copy?

4. Email policy

Email is often the first hidden limit. Check messages per hour, recipient limits, per-domain caps, SMTP restrictions, mailbox size, POP and IMAP connection limits, spam filtering, and whether newsletters must use an external email provider. Namecheap’s published hourly limits illustrate why unmetered bandwidth does not mean unlimited email use.

5. Domain, SSL, and IP costs

Domain-reseller access does not guarantee profit. Compare wholesale registration and renewal prices, registry fees, taxes, deposits, minimum balances, transfer fees, and your own retail pricing. Free SSL is now common, and a dedicated IP is not automatically necessary for ordinary SSL or SEO. Buy one only when a documented technical requirement justifies it.

6. Your own support time

The upstream provider normally supports you, not your end customers. Your cost includes onboarding, DNS changes, password resets, malware incidents, website errors, plugin conflicts, billing disputes, abuse complaints, and cancellation requests. A low hosting bill can be uneconomical if it creates more support work than your client pricing covers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to calculate whether reseller hosting is profitable

Use contribution margin rather than the hosting subscription alone:

Monthly contribution = client hosting revenue − hosting plan − billing software − payment fees − domains and SSL − backup/IP costs − support labor

Then estimate break-even client count:

Break-even clients = monthly fixed costs ÷ monthly contribution per client

For example, if your recurring hosting package costs $20 per client and your client pays $15, the apparent margin is negative before support, taxes, payment fees, and domains. Conversely, a $35.99 renewal plan with WHMCS included may be cheaper to operate than a $19.95 plan that requires a separate billing system. Use the price your provider will charge after the promotion ends, not the first-month headline.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not sell unlimited resources as unlimited service. Define fair-use terms, storage limits, backup exclusions, email rules, support boundaries, and upgrade triggers in your own customer agreement.

White-labeling: what to verify before promising a private brand

White-label is not a single feature. Ask whether the plan includes:

  • Private nameservers such as ns1.yourbrand.example
  • Anonymous server hostnames and DNS records
  • Your logo and colors in the client dashboard
  • Branded cPanel or an equivalent client panel
  • Branded invoices and billing emails
  • A branded WHMCS or HostShop portal
  • Support links and email headers that do not expose the upstream host
  • Custom error pages and control-panel URLs

Private nameservers alone do not prove that the complete client experience is white-label. Test a new client account, inspect DNS and mail headers, open password-reset messages, and view error pages before launching your brand.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Migration and upgrade planning

cPanel compatibility is a major practical distinction. A cPanel reseller can usually use cPanel backups or a provider’s transfer process, but you still need to verify the migration of files, databases, mail, DNS zones, SSL certificates, cron jobs, PHP versions, client logins, staging sites, and billing records.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A proprietary-panel host such as 20i may offer a better operating model, but the migration path is not identical to a cPanel transfer. Ask for a test migration of one low-risk client before moving a portfolio.

Before purchase, ask every provider:

  1. Can I upgrade to a larger reseller plan without changing nameservers?
  2. Can existing accounts move to a cloud VPS or dedicated server?
  3. Will the provider perform that migration, and is it included?
  4. Will cPanel or another panel license become a separate charge?
  5. Can I obtain root access later, or is the platform permanently managed?
  6. What happens to client logins, DNS, backups, and billing records during an upgrade?

ScalaHosting specifically markets a cloud reseller path and also sells separate cPanel reseller plans. That makes it worth considering for growth, but SPanel, WHMCS, and resource limits still need to fit your workflow. For any provider, do not assume that an upgrade is seamless until the provider confirms it in writing.

Strong alternatives that narrowly miss the top five

GreenGeeks

GreenGeeks lists RH-25 at $19.95 per month prepaid for 12 months, renewing at $34.95; RH-50 at $24.95 renewing at $49.95; and RH-80 at $34.95 renewing at $69.95. The plans list 25, 50, or 80 cPanel accounts, 60 GB, 80 GB, or 160 GB of storage, white-label branding, private nameservers, eNom, and up to 30 free cPanel migrations on its reseller page.

GreenGeeks’ landing page says WHMCS is included, but its add-on pricing page lists WHMCS Starter at $9.95 per month for reseller hosting. Because those statements conflict, verify whether the license is included, credited, or separately billed before choosing GreenGeeks.

HostArmada

HostArmada’s entry reseller plan starts at $21 per month on a biennial promotional term and renews at $28 per month. It lists 50 GB NVMe storage, 40 cPanel accounts, 3 TB bandwidth, 30 daily backups, free SSL, LiteSpeed, malware scanning and removal, a WAF/IP firewall, white-label features, and a 45-day money-back guarantee. Its reseller page does not clearly state that WHMCS is included, so it should not be treated as a turnkey automated-billing package without confirmation.

Verpex

Verpex lists 15, 30, 60, and 100 cPanel accounts with 50 GB, 100 GB, 180 GB, and 300 GB NVMe storage. It also lists 2 GB RAM and 2 vCPU per cPanel account, daily backups, LiteSpeed, CloudLinux, JetBackup, Monarx, white-label branding, and a 30-day guarantee. However, its current materials conflict: one page mentions integrated WHMCS while the FAQ says Verpex does not provide WHMCS and that customers must buy a license directly. See Verpex’s reseller page and obtain a direct pre-purchase answer.

SiteGround

SiteGround is a strong agency-hosting option, but it is not a direct substitute for conventional WHM/cPanel reseller hosting. GrowBig and GoGeek provide white-label Site Tools, client access controls, custom packages, and resource controls; SiteGround describes Cloud as the option for custom packages and assigned hosting resources. The SiteGround reseller page lists GrowBig at $4.99 per month renewing at $29.99, GoGeek at $7.99 renewing at $44.99, and Cloud from $100 per month. Forbes Advisor similarly distinguishes the Cloud plan from the agency-oriented products. Choose it for managed website services, not because a multi-site agency plan automatically provides a WHMCS-style reseller business.

HostGator

HostGator should not be included in a definitive current top-five list without checking the live US checkout path. Its reseller landing page still describes reseller hosting, but its own hosting comparison chart says reseller plans are no longer offered to new signups. HostGator support documentation also says it no longer includes a free WHMCS license. Old reviews and legacy offers should not be used to make a 2026 purchase decision.

Who should not buy reseller hosting

Reseller hosting is a poor fit when:

  • You operate only one website and do not need separate client accounts.
  • You want managed WordPress service rather than a hosting business.
  • You require root access, custom server software, or unusual background processes.
  • You plan to host high-traffic ecommerce stores that may exhaust shared CPU, RAM, database, or I/O limits.
  • You need bulk newsletters or high-volume transactional email.
  • You do not want to provide first-line customer support.

Consider managed WordPress agency hosting, a managed VPS, a cloud server, a dedicated server, or an affiliate program instead. The right alternative depends on whether your primary need is management convenience, control, capacity, or commission income.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Count real accounts: separate brochure sites, stores, staging accounts, and internal sites.
  2. Estimate resources: storage, databases, mailboxes, CPU, RAM, inodes, traffic, and backups per account.
  3. Choose the panel: standard cPanel or a proprietary platform such as StackCP or SPanel.
  4. Price the complete stack: hosting, WHMCS or HostShop, domains, SSL, IPs, payment processing, taxes, backups, and support labor.
  5. Check branding: nameservers, dashboards, invoices, support emails, hostnames, and error pages.
  6. Test migration: move one non-critical account and check files, databases, email, DNS, SSL, cron, and logins.
  7. Read resource and email policies: especially CPU throttling, I/O, entry processes, hourly email, inode, and overselling rules.
  8. Ask about growth: upgrade process, VPS or dedicated options, root access, panel licenses, and retention of nameservers.
  9. Write your client terms: define support, backups, fair use, payment failure, abuse, cancellation, and restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is reseller hosting profitable in 2026?

It can be profitable, but the hosting subscription is only one cost. Calculate client revenue minus the provider renewal price, billing software, payment fees, domain and SSL costs, backups, taxes, and your support time. Profit also depends on selling a useful service package rather than simply marking up server space.

Do I need WHMCS to resell hosting?

No. A small operation can invoice manually or use existing accounting software. WHMCS becomes more valuable as you need automated provisioning, recurring invoices, failed-payment suspensions, domain renewals, support tickets, and client self-service. 20i also offers HostShop as a provider-native alternative, while InMotion lists WHMCS as included.

Is WHMCS the same as WHM?

No. WHM manages reseller packages and hosting accounts. cPanel manages an individual client account. WHMCS handles billing, client records, automated provisioning, domain services, suspensions, and support tickets.

Can I use my own brand and private nameservers?

Most of the providers in the top five advertise white-label features and private nameservers, but the scope differs. Confirm whether your logo, invoices, client dashboard, support emails, hostnames, error pages, and control-panel URLs are also branded. With 20i, virtual nameservers have specific domain-registration and nameserver requirements.

Does the hosting company support my clients directly?

Usually no. The upstream host generally supports the reseller account holder. You remain responsible for first-line help with DNS, passwords, websites, plugins, billing, abuse complaints, and account changes unless your contract says otherwise.

Can I host WooCommerce or other demanding sites on reseller hosting?

Possibly, but account count is not enough to answer the question. WooCommerce, membership sites, stores, staging environments, and busy databases need more CPU, RAM, I/O, storage, and reliable backups than brochure sites. Check the provider’s resource allocations and monitor actual usage before promising capacity.

Are unlimited accounts or unlimited bandwidth really unlimited?

No. Those terms generally describe the absence of a fixed quota, not infinite server capacity. CPU, RAM, storage, inodes, email, database, acceptable-use, fair-use, and overselling policies still apply. ScalaHosting’s terms, for example, qualify its unlimited-account cloud offer and state that overselling is disabled by default.

How many clients can an entry-level reseller plan support?

The maximum may be 20, 25, 40, or more, but the practical number depends on each site. Twenty small brochure sites can use fewer resources than three busy stores. Start with the provider’s account limit, then estimate storage, CPU, RAM, email, databases, backups, and traffic for your actual portfolio.

Do I need a dedicated IP address?

Usually not for ordinary SSL or SEO. A dedicated IP may be useful for a documented technical requirement, but it should not be purchased automatically. Check the provider’s current IP policy and whether the plan already includes one.

Is reseller hosting better than a VPS?

Reseller hosting is usually easier because the provider manages more of the server and panel infrastructure. A VPS provides more control and a clearer upgrade path, but it can make you responsible for security, updates, backups, monitoring, panel licenses, and outages. Choose a VPS when you need control or resources that reseller policies cannot provide.

Can I migrate cPanel accounts to another host?

Often, but verify the migration scope. Check whether files, databases, email, DNS zones, SSL certificates, cron jobs, PHP versions, client logins, and billing records are preserved. Moving from cPanel to a proprietary panel such as 20i’s StackCP may require a different process and client retraining.

What happens if my sites exceed CPU or RAM limits?

The provider may throttle processes, limit account performance, issue warnings, require optimization, or recommend an upgrade. The exact response is governed by the provider’s resource and acceptable-use policies. Monitor usage and establish an upgrade budget before adding resource-intensive clients.

The Bottom Line

Choose 20i for the best overall value if you are comfortable leaving the WHM/cPanel ecosystem. Choose KnownHost for the strongest traditional cPanel economics, InMotion Hosting when included WHMCS and domain tools justify higher renewals, ScalaHosting when a cloud account-count model fits your growth plan, and Namecheap when predictable pricing is more important than entry-level storage.

Whichever provider you select, price the business at renewal, include the billing stack and your support time, and test the migration and white-label experience before moving paying clients.
