The most promising gift for a teenager is usually tied to something they already do, wear, play, or have asked for—not a guess about what all teens like. Use these 35 ideas as a shortlist, then check the recipient’s preferences, device, size, and routine before buying. If you are unsure, a gift card or an activity they choose can be a thoughtful way to let them decide.

Start with the teen, not the trend

Teen interests vary widely: current gift guides span fashion, skincare, sports, art, gaming, music, photography, and room decor. Match a present to a known hobby or a specific request rather than assuming an item suits someone because of their age or gender. These are ideas, not guarantees that a particular teen will use or enjoy every gift.

If you are buying for someone who regularly goes to gigs, Which? senior writer Tom Morgan says, “a gift card will definitely be put to good use.” The Guardian also quoted one 13-year-old, Aly, saying, “I want another Lululemon Define jacket, as it makes me feel ‘snatched’.” Those are individual examples, not evidence that every teen wants the same brand or style.

Let them choose: gift cards and shared plans

  1. Gaming gift card. Choose the platform or game the teen already uses; check the account region and redemption rules before purchasing.
  2. Clothing-store gift card. Pick a retailer or brand they already wear, rather than guessing their size or preferred fit.
  3. Beauty-store gift card. A flexible choice for a teen who already buys beauty products.
  4. Live music or event gift card. Consider it for a teen who regularly attends gigs, and check which venues or events the card covers.
  5. Sports streaming pass. Only choose one after confirming the league and service the teen follows; a pass for the wrong sport or platform is unlikely to help.
  6. An event they choose. Make the main gift a shared outing or event selected together. Add a small physical item only if having something to unwrap matters to your family.

Gift cards are less personal than a carefully chosen object, but they reduce the risk of buying the wrong brand, game, or experience. In a 2026 survey of its members, Which? reported that more than 46% had given teens cash or gift cards. That describes Which? members’ reported gifting, not all households.

Fashion and accessories

  1. A repeat of a requested item. Replacing or gifting a clothing item the teen has specifically named is a safer bet than choosing a new style for them.
  2. Simple jewelry. A gold-plated bracelet set or another understated piece may fit someone who already wears that kind of jewelry.
  3. A bag charm or small accessory. Let the teen select the design if you are unsure what they like.
  4. Preferred-brand loungewear. Confirm both size and style; comfort and fit are personal.
  5. A wallet. A practical option for an older teen who wants an everyday place for cards or cash.

Beauty and self-care

  1. Skincare set. Choose one for a teen already interested in skincare, and check what is in their current routine and whether they have sensitivities. Avoid assuming that a complex routine or active ingredients are welcome.
  2. Lip balm or a small balm set. Stick to a brand, flavor, or format they already enjoy where possible.
  3. Body-care or fragrance discovery minis. Small sizes suit a teen who likes trying scents without committing to a full-size bottle.
  4. Star-shaped hydrocolloid spot patches. Consider these if the teen has asked for them; they are a novelty-style variation on a personal-care item.
  5. Thermal styling brush. A possible choice for a teen who styles their hair and has requested a tool. One 16-year-old quoted by The Guardian said a thermal brush helped make curling or a blowout faster when running late; that reflects one person’s routine.
  6. Hair-styling tool upgrade. First check the teen’s hair type, preferred routine, and the tool’s safe-use guidance. A more expensive device is not automatically a better fit.
  7. Pocket mirror. A small practical accessory for someone who would carry and use one.

Creative projects, photography, and room interests

  1. Building set. LEGO Icons Succulents is one example; a set connected to the teen’s favorite subject or display interests is more personal.
  2. Friendship-bracelet kit. A good match for someone who enjoys crafts or making accessories with friends.
  3. Bead organizer or bracelet-design kit. Better suited to a teen who already makes jewelry and will use the supplies.
  4. Instant camera. For a teen interested in photography and printed keepsakes. Check the ongoing cost and availability of compatible film before buying.
  5. Mini phone tripod. Useful to consider for someone who records videos or takes group photos. Which? notes that the Amazon Basics Mini Tripod does not include its phone holder, so verify the mount or include a compatible holder.
  6. Room decor. Choose something that fits the teen’s actual room and taste; decor based on a guessed trend can miss the mark.
  7. Collectible figure. Match it to a character or collecting hobby the teen already follows.
  8. Notebook or art supplies. A sensible option for someone who already draws, journals, or writes. Check whether they have preferred tools or materials.

Tech, gaming, and music

  1. Portable Bluetooth speaker. Consider one for a teen who listens to music with friends. Compare sound and battery life against how and where they would use it.
  2. Wireless earbuds. If the teen wants a pair, check comfort, price, and compatibility with their device before choosing.
  3. Backbone One mobile gaming controller. For phone gaming, but first match the controller connector to the teen’s phone: WIRED notes that Backbone One versions use USB-C or Lightning.
  4. Console gaming controller. Confirm the console model the teen owns; controllers are not interchangeable across every system.
  5. Phone battery pack. Check the teen’s device and charging needs, including connector and charging method, rather than buying on capacity alone.
  6. Smartwatch. Consider this only if the teen has asked for one and it works with the phone ecosystem they use.
  7. Content-creation accessory. A small accessory such as a tripod can support video or photography, but check the phone mount and intended use. Avoid buying a second tripod if one is already on the list.

Practical gifts for their space or routine

  1. Mini fridge. A possible fit if the teen has suitable space and a real use for it. Check dimensions, ventilation needs, and household rules about where it can go.
  2. Popcorn maker or compact snack appliance. Consider one for a teen who enjoys making snacks at home; check storage space and whether they will be responsible for cleaning it.

Before you buy

  • Look for a clear signal. A request, a hobby they consistently pursue, or a brand they already use is stronger evidence of fit than a generic trend list.
  • Check the practical details. Confirm clothing sizes, phone connectors, console model, room dimensions, and any ongoing costs such as film or supplies.
  • Give choice when preferences are uncertain. A relevant gift card or an event the teen selects can avoid a mismatched purchase.
  • Keep prices in context. The cited guides cover different markets and publication dates: Which? uses UK retailers and pounds, while The Guardian’s 2025 guide covers US teens and says its prices were current at publication. Treat example prices from any guide as time- and location-specific, and check local listings before purchasing.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
