ARMOUR Residential REIT, AGNC Investment, and Main Street Capital each recently declared monthly dividends, and dated yield figures put them above 5%. But those figures are not directly comparable: ARR and AGNC yields come from an October 5, 2026 third-party screen, while Main Street’s 7.9% figure used an August share price and included a supplemental payment. A monthly schedule is not a promise that a dividend will continue, and a high yield alone does not establish that a stock is worth buying.
Which monthly dividend stocks are above 5%?
A third-party monthly-REIT screen updated October 5, 2026, listed ARMOUR Residential REIT (NYSE: ARR) at a 21.29% yield with a displayed share price of $13.53, and AGNC Investment Corp. (Nasdaq: AGNC) at 16.63% with a displayed price of $8.66. These are that screen’s dated calculations, not live quotes or issuer guarantees. The screen does not include Main Street Capital, and its yield methodology is not established here, so its figures should not be treated as a synchronized comparison with Main Street’s issuer-reported yield.

How the three companies generate income
ARMOUR Residential REIT: residential mortgage securities
ARMOUR invests primarily in fixed-rate, adjustable-rate, and hybrid adjustable-rate residential mortgage-backed securities issued or guaranteed by U.S. government-sponsored enterprises or guaranteed by Ginnie Mae. It is externally managed and advised by ARMOUR Capital Management LP. Its income case is therefore linked to a mortgage-securities portfolio rather than rent from owned properties.
ARMOUR confirmed a common dividend of $0.24 per share for October 2026, payable October 29 to shareholders of record October 15. The company says actual dividends are determined by its board’s discretion, taking into account factors including operating results, cash flows, financial condition, capital requirements, market conditions, and expected opportunities. Read ARMOUR’s October 1, 2026 dividend announcement.
AGNC Investment: agency mortgage-backed securities
AGNC invests primarily in agency residential mortgage-backed securities, which it says benefit from guarantees against credit losses by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or Ginnie Mae. It invests on a leveraged basis and finances assets primarily through repurchase agreements. Its income and risks therefore involve interest rates, financing conditions, leverage, and portfolio management—not just the credit performance of individual homeowners. AGNC says its risk-management strategies are intended to protect portfolio value; that stated intent is not a guarantee.

AGNC declared an October 2026 common dividend of $0.12 per share, payable November 10 to holders of record October 30. See AGNC’s October 7, 2026 dividend announcement.
Main Street Capital: debt and equity financing for businesses
Main Street is a principal investment firm that provides customized debt and equity capital to lower-middle-market companies and debt capital to certain private companies. That makes its business model distinct from the mortgage-security portfolios held by ARR and AGNC; its results are tied to its investments in businesses and their ability to meet obligations.

Main Street declared regular monthly dividends of $0.265 per share for each of October, November, and December 2026, or $0.795 across the quarter. It separately declared a $0.30 supplemental dividend payable in September, funded from undistributed taxable income as of June 30, 2026. Read Main Street’s August 4, 2026 dividend release.

What can and cannot be concluded about dividend reliability
A declared monthly payment confirms what a company has announced for a particular period; it does not guarantee future payments. ARMOUR explicitly says its board determines actual dividends at its discretion. Main Street likewise cautions that statements about future dividend payments and growth are forward-looking and uncertain. The available declarations establish recent payouts, not a comparative verdict on which company can sustain its dividend best.
For a meaningful sustainability assessment, an investor would need current, comparable information such as earnings or cash-flow coverage, portfolio and balance-sheet risks, leverage, asset quality, and valuation. The figures cited here do not provide comparable latest book values, coverage measures, leverage ratios, non-accruals, or valuation metrics for the three companies. A headline yield cannot fill those gaps or predict total return.

How to assess a monthly dividend before investing
- Check the declared payment and its dates. Distinguish a specific announced installment from an expectation that the same amount will recur. A monthly schedule is a payment frequency, not a guarantee.
- Separate recurring and supplemental amounts. For MAIN, the regular Q4 monthly amount is $0.265 per share; the $0.30 September supplemental is separate. Do not treat the combined payout as a recurring monthly run rate.
- Match the dividend and share price dates. Divide the annualized regular dividend by a share price from the same date. Label the result as indicated, trailing, or inclusive of supplemental payments.
- Understand the assets and financing. ARR and AGNC invest in residential mortgage securities, with AGNC explicitly using leverage and repurchase-agreement financing. MAIN provides debt and equity capital to businesses. The risks are not interchangeable.
- Look beyond yield. Review current financial disclosures for payout coverage, portfolio quality, leverage, balance-sheet exposures, and valuation. A high yield can reflect a lower share price as well as a large dividend, so it is not a standalone measure of value or safety.
