On Aug. 6, 2025, soybean futures were slightly higher in overnight trading, a USDA outlook called for increased European Union grain production, and the National Weather Service forecast dangerous heat in parts of the Southern Plains. The prices and forecasts below describe what was reported that day; they are not current market quotes or weather conditions.
What happened to soybean futures on Aug. 6, 2025?
November soybean futures rose 3½¢ overnight to $9.94¼ per bushel, according to the Aug. 6 report from Agriculture.com / Successful Farming. The article attributed the modest gain to technical buying after prices had reached their lowest level since May earlier in the week. Favorable Corn Belt weather and uncertainty over tariffs and trade had weighed on prices. Rain was expected in parts of Iowa and Illinois later that week.
Other overnight prices reported on Aug. 6 were:
- Soybean meal: down 10¢ to $284.80 per short ton.
- Soybean oil: up 0.48¢ to 53.9¢ per pound.
- December corn futures: down ½¢ to $4.01½ per bushel.
- September wheat futures: down ½¢ to $5.07¾ per bushel.
- Kansas City wheat futures: up ½¢ to $5.05 per bushel.
The article also said, citing USDA figures, that the U.S. winter wheat harvest was 87% complete and the spring wheat harvest was 5% complete at the time.
What was reported about China’s soybean purchases?
As of the Aug. 6 report, China had not bought a cargo of U.S. soybeans for the season. The article attributed that observation to Karen Braun, an analyst at Zaner Ag Hedge, and described it as the latest start since 2005 at that point. Braun said that if China waited beyond that period, it would be the latest start since at least 1999, the limit of the USDA’s online database, and could put U.S.-China soybean trade “into uncharted waters.” This is a historical description of the situation reported that day, not a statement about current purchases.

- Disease-Smart Cultivation: edamame seeds to plant resist common pests when grown in full sun and evenly moist soil; gardening kit growers mulch to conserve water and pick bright green pods before they yellow.
What did the USDA outlook say about EU grain production?
A report from the USDA’s office in Madrid, as summarized by Agriculture.com / Successful Farming on Aug. 6, forecast EU grain output at 279.2 million metric tons. That was above the office’s prior USDA outlook of 278.4 million metric tons and the 257.7 million metric tons produced the previous year.
| Measure | Aug. 6, 2025 outlook | Comparison reported |
|---|---|---|
| EU grain output | 279.2 million metric tons | 278.4 million in the prior outlook; 257.7 million produced the previous year |
| Harvested area | 49.2 million hectares (121.6 million acres) | 48.9 million hectares planted the previous year |
| Ending stocks | 29.5 million metric tons | 26.8 million in the prior forecast; 28 million stored a year earlier |
The Madrid office attributed the production outlook in part to increased planted area and improved yields in France, Romania and Germany. Ideal weather in Spain was expected to produce near-record yields. The report also noted a dry spell in France since spring: it said the dryness came too late to harm winter crops such as wheat and winter barley, but could stress spring-planted crops such as spring barley and corn, whose final yields would depend on August rainfall and temperatures.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- HEIRLOOM VARIETY & HIGH YIELD: Outsidepride soy bean seeds is a robust heirloom strain known for its high yield, producing over 3 bushels per acre more than the popular Manokin variety, making it a valuable choice for maximizing harvest output. This variety is perfect for outdoor gardening enthusiasts looking to optimize their yard space.
- RICH IN PROTEIN & OIL WITH VERSATILE USES: Containing about 18% oil and 38% protein, this soybean variety is perfect for producing high-quality soy bean oil and protein-rich meal. These soybeans can be processed into a wide range of products, including soy milk powder, soy flour, soy protein, tofu, and various industrial non-food products, showcasing its versatility. Ideal for making various soy-based meals such as edamame snacks.
- OPTIMAL PLANTING GUIDELINES FOR MAXIMUM YIELD: For best results, plant soybean seeds at a depth of 0.75 to 1.5 inches, with row spacing between 7.5 and 15 inches, depending on soil type and tillage. This ensures uniform seed placement and optimal growth, adapting well to midwestern states and capturing a significant percentage of non-GMO acres.
- HIGH-PROTEIN ANIMAL FEED: The high-protein fiber left after oil extraction is ideal for animal feed, particularly for poultry and swine industries, which consume over half of the processed soybean meal. This meal is also crucial for cattle, other farm animals, and pets, ensuring they receive the necessary nutrients for growth and development. A great addition to feed mixes for cowpeas and other legumes.
- ECONOMIC AND NUTRITIONAL: As the most economically important bean globally, soybeans provide essential vegetable protein for millions and are key ingredients in hundreds of chemical products. A 60-pound bushel of our soybeans seed yields about 11 pounds of crude soybean oil and 47 pounds of soybean meal. Beneficial for producing shelf-stable goods for long-term use.
