For tax year 2027, third-party forecasts project higher federal income-tax bracket thresholds, but the reviewed sources do not establish final IRS amounts. Wolters Kluwer’s September 18, 2026 estimate puts the 10% bracket’s upper limit at $12,800 for single filers and $25,600 for married couples filing jointly. The forecast keeps the familiar seven marginal rates; it projects changes to the income thresholds, not a new rate schedule.
These projections concern income earned in 2027, generally reported on returns filed in 2028. They are different from the official 2026 tax brackets, which generally apply to returns filed in 2027.

The forecast also estimates 2027 standard deductions of $16,600 for single filers and married individuals filing separately, $33,200 for married couples filing jointly, and $24,950 for heads of household. Those deduction estimates are separate from the bracket thresholds and are likewise not official IRS amounts.

How could the brackets change in 2027?
The forecast raises the dollar boundaries between brackets while retaining the seven rates shown in the IRS’s tax-year 2026 materials: 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35%, and 37%. A higher threshold can leave more taxable income in a lower bracket; it does not mean that every dollar of a taxpayer’s income is taxed at the rate of the highest bracket they reach.
CBS News reported a separate Bloomberg Tax forecast of an approximately 3.2% increase in 2027 thresholds. That percentage is an estimate, not an IRS announcement. The exact results differ by forecast, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed across-the-board adjustment for every tax provision.
Why are the 2027 figures still estimates?
Inflation adjustments rely on consumer-price data. The 2025 government shutdown meant October 2025 CPI was not published. Wolters Kluwer and Bloomberg Tax used an 11-month average covering September 2025 through August 2026, but the available information does not establish that their calculations or results are identical. Wolters Kluwer cautions that the IRS’s eventual amounts may differ and that how the IRS will handle the missing month is unclear.
The IRS announced its tax-year 2026 adjustments on October 9, 2025. That date does not establish when the IRS will publish the 2027 schedule. Until the IRS releases its tax-year 2027 figures, projections should not be used as final guidance for withholding or estimating an individual tax bill.

What is the latest official IRS baseline?
The latest official schedule identified here is for tax year 2026. The IRS’s announcement gives these taxable-income thresholds for single filers and married couples filing jointly:
| Marginal rate | Single filer taxable income | Married filing jointly taxable income |
|---|---|---|
| 10% | Up to $12,400 | Up to $24,800 |
| 12% | Over $12,400 to $50,400 | Over $24,800 to $100,800 |
| 22% | Over $50,400 to $105,700 | Over $100,800 to $211,400 |
| 24% | Over $105,700 to $201,775 | Over $211,400 to $403,550 |
| 32% | Over $201,775 to $256,225 | Over $403,550 to $512,450 |
| 35% | Over $256,225 to $640,600 | Over $512,450 to $768,700 |
| 37% | Over $640,600 | Over $768,700 |
The official 2026 standard deductions are $16,100 for single taxpayers and married individuals filing separately, $32,200 for joint filers, and $24,150 for heads of household. These apply to tax year 2026, not to income earned in 2027.

How to read a 2027 tax-bracket forecast
- Check the tax year. Tax year 2027 refers to income earned during 2027, ordinarily reported on a return filed in 2028. The 2026 adjustments generally apply to returns filed in 2027.
- Check whether it is official. The figures above are estimates from publishers; the IRS’s official amounts for 2027 are not established in the reviewed sources.
- Match the filing status. The table shows single and joint filers. A threshold for one filing status should not be applied to another.
- Separate brackets from deductions. Bracket thresholds apply to taxable income. A standard deduction reduces income in calculating taxable income; it is not another tax bracket.
- Compare forecast methods cautiously. Publication date, CPI months used, treatment of the missing October 2025 observation, filing status, and whether a figure is a bracket threshold or a separate provision can all matter.
To confirm final amounts, consult a new IRS release or revenue procedure for tax year 2027 rather than relying on a projected table.
