How Steam seasonal sales, Fests and Next Fest differ
These events were not all the same kind of sale. Valve describes seasonal sales as Steam-wide events in which released games can participate with discounts. Themed Fests spotlight game categories, which may vary from year to year. Steam Next Fest focuses on upcoming games and free demos, giving players a way to try titles before release and developers a way to build audiences through wishlists. These distinctions are described in the Insider Gaming report reproducing Valve’s event descriptions.
That means the calendar’s two major seasonal discount events were the Spring and Summer Sales. The February and June Next Fests were demo-focused, while the other entries were category-themed Fests—not additional seasonal sales.

Notable timing in the calendar
- Steam Next Fest: June Edition ran June 9–16, followed on June 16 by Fishing Fest, scheduled through June 23.
- The Spring Sale and several themed events were separated by gaps, while some events began on the same day another ended.
- The calendar’s dates are historical. Valve’s 2024 announcement does not establish dates for later years.
