The redesigned 2025 Nissan Kicks launched in the U.S. with a starting MSRP of $21,830 for the S front-wheel-drive model. That was an announced base price—not an out-the-door offer—and Nissan said it was less than $500 above the previous generation’s starting price. The figure makes the Kicks a value proposition worth examining, but it does not show that the SUV reversed rising car prices: destination, options, taxes, dealer fees, and local pricing affect what buyers actually pay.
How much did the 2025 Nissan Kicks cost?
Nissan North America announced these U.S. launch MSRPs on August 13, 2024. The prices below exclude the $1,390 destination and handling charge.
| Grade and drivetrain | Announced MSRP | Price with destination and handling |
|---|---|---|
| S FWD | $21,830 | $23,220 |
| S AWD | $23,330 | $24,720 |
| SV FWD | $23,680 | $25,070 |
| SV AWD | $25,330 | $26,720 |
| SR FWD | $26,180 | $27,570 |
| SR AWD | $27,680 | $29,070 |
These destination-inclusive amounts are arithmetic totals of Nissan’s announced MSRP and $1,390 charge; they are not dealer quotes or out-the-door prices. Nissan says MSRP excludes destination and handling, tax, title, license, and options, and dealers set actual prices. Nissan North America’s August 2024 launch announcement is the source for the listed prices and fee.
The $23,220 starting price reported by the Associated Press in its 2025 summary of Edmunds matches the $21,830 base MSRP plus Nissan’s $1,390 destination charge. It is therefore a destination-inclusive figure, not a conflicting base price. AP’s summary of Edmunds reports that figure.

Did the Kicks really push back against rising car prices?
Nissan said the new model’s starting price was less than $500 higher than the previous-generation Kicks. That is a company-stated comparison between generations’ base MSRPs; Nissan did not provide the prior model’s exact figure in the cited passage. It does not establish a precise percentage increase, compare transaction prices, or show what happened to prices across the wider car market.
The launch prices are from 2024, when Nissan announced the U.S. 2025 model. They are not evidence of a current 2026 local offer. To judge affordability today, compare itemized dealer quotes for the same trim and drivetrain, and account for dealer-installed options, incentives, taxes, and fees.

What does the redesigned Kicks offer for the price?
More drivetrain choice
The U.S. lineup includes S, SV, and SR grades, each offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Nissan’s launch materials describe AWD as available across all three grades. The S AWD launch MSRP was $1,500 above the S FWD MSRP; on the SV and SR, the announced AWD premiums were $1,650 and $1,500, respectively.
Nissan specifies an AWD Snow mode, but AWD is not a guarantee of safety or traction: Nissan cautions that it cannot prevent collisions or provide enhanced traction in all conditions. Nissan’s 2025 Kicks press kit details the drivetrain and equipment.

Engine, space, and clearance
Nissan lists a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 141 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque, paired with an Xtronic transmission; recommended fuel is regular unleaded. The manufacturer states cargo capacity of up to 30 cubic feet with the rear seats raised and 60 cubic feet with them folded, plus 8.4 inches of ground clearance. These are manufacturer specifications, subject to configuration and loading. SV and SR grades include a flexible luggage board.
Safety and technology vary by grade
Nissan says Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup. S and SV include Intelligent Cruise Control, while SR adds ProPILOT Assist. Screen size, wireless phone integration, charging, and other equipment vary by grade and package, so a feature listed for the model is not necessarily standard on every Kicks. What are the fuel-economy and driving trade-offs?
Nissan’s 2025 brochure gave targeted estimates of 28 city, 35 highway, and 31 combined mpg for FWD, and 27 city, 34 highway, and 30 combined mpg for AWD. The brochure said these figures were based on Nissan internal testing, EPA data was unavailable at publication, and confirmation was pending. They should not be treated as verified EPA ratings. The 2025 Nissan Kicks brochure states the estimates and qualification.
In AP’s summary of Edmunds, reviewers described acceleration as tepid and real-world fuel economy as disappointing. Those are attributed reviewer observations, not instrumented test results established in the cited account. Buyers who prioritize quick acceleration or fuel costs should evaluate those concerns against their own driving and compare equivalent vehicles on a consistent fuel-economy basis.

How to compare the Kicks with another small SUV
A fair value comparison requires matching more than the entry-level sticker price. Compare:
- Model year, trim, and drivetrain.
- MSRP on the same basis, including destination, or preferably itemized out-the-door quotes.
- Standard equipment and the price of options needed to match features.
- Passenger and cargo utility for the way you expect to use the vehicle.
- Fuel economy using the same type of evidence—EPA ratings against EPA ratings, or measured real-world results against comparable results.
The launch pricing and equipment figures above can establish what Nissan announced for the U.S. 2025 lineup; they are not a current competitor-price comparison or a substitute for local quotes.
