What the 2019–2022 YZF-R125 is
Yamaha positions the YZF-R125 within its R-Series and describes it as a “125 supersport.” Its styling draws on the larger R-Series models, but family resemblance does not establish equivalent performance. Yamaha’s 2019 model factsheet and 2021 model factsheet provide useful snapshots of the design and equipment; they do not establish that specifications, colors or graphics were identical across every year and national market in the range.

Performance: what Yamaha specifies—and what is not verified
VVA and engine design
For the redesigned 2019-generation 125cc engine, Yamaha describes Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) as supporting torque at low engine speeds and power at high engine speeds. The same factsheet highlights a larger throttle body, larger intake and exhaust valves, a compact combustion chamber and a new exhaust system. These are manufacturer descriptions of the engineering, not independent performance measurements.
Chassis and rider-control features
Yamaha’s 2019 materials describe revised Deltabox-frame geometry, 41mm upside-down forks, a shorter aluminium swingarm and an Assist & Slipper (A&S) clutch. Yamaha says the clutch offers a lighter lever feel and helps control the rear wheel during deceleration. The 2021 factsheet also lists the Deltabox frame, aluminium swingarm and A&S clutch.

The 2021 factsheet labels the engine EU5-compliant and lists an 11-litre fuel tank, LED headlights and LCD instruments. Check the brochure for the bike’s specific country and model year before relying on equipment or emissions details for an individual used example.

The available sources do not provide verified independent top-speed or acceleration figures for this model range. Yamaha’s feature descriptions are not a substitute for measured results, so a precise number cannot be responsibly stated here.

Price: a dated local offer, not today’s used value
On 27 February 2019, Yamaha Motor Slovakia advertised a promotional price of €4,990, reduced from €5,290, with a €300 Start Racing Bonus. The offer applied in Slovakia and required registration by the end of December 2019 or while stocks lasted; see Yamaha Motor Slovakia’s promotion. It is a historical new-bike promotion, not a current price, a used-bike valuation or a guide to other countries.

Photos and year-to-year checks
Yamaha’s 2019 factsheet imagery shows bodywork, cockpit, wheels, suspension and lighting. Its 2021 factsheet includes a blue bike in action and feature images. Yamaha’s R-Series overview places the R125 in the broader family, but does not prove performance equivalence with larger R models.
When comparing photos or listings, look for a clear model-year and market label: colors and graphics can vary. Use images as a way to check visible equipment and presentation, not as proof that two bikes share the same specification.

What to compare before buying a used example
- Year and market specification: Match the claimed model year and country to the relevant national brochure; do not assume every market received identical equipment or colors.
- Mileage and service records: Compare the odometer reading with available service documentation and ask what work has been completed.
- Condition and history: Inspect consumables and general condition, and ask about crash damage, repairs or replacement parts.
- Original and modified equipment: Identify changes from the factory setup and check that any relevant parts fit the specific year and market.
- Price evidence: Compare with contemporaneous local listings on a like-for-like basis. Keep advertised asking prices separate from confirmed sale prices.
