Spider-Man: Brand New Day currently holds the biggest domestic opening weekend in the Box Office Mojo chart, with $360,091,572. It narrowly tops Avengers: Endgame and leads the third-place film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, by nearly $100 million. The ranking below uses reported U.S.-and-Canada domestic opening grosses in unadjusted dollars—not worldwide openings, lifetime grosses, or ticket sales.
How the ranking works
The list follows Box Office Mojo’s “Opening Weekends” chart, which was dated October 3, 2026, at 17:02 PDT. Each amount is the reported domestic opening-weekend gross shown there. The Numbers’ domestic all-time weekend chart independently agrees with the top two records and their amounts. Box office figures can be revised, and positions may change when new films open.

These are raw dollars, not inflation-adjusted figures. A dollar-for-dollar ranking across different release years therefore does not compare admissions or audience size. The domestic totals and opening shares below are also from Box Office Mojo; the share is the opening gross as a percentage of that film’s listed domestic total, not a measure of quality or reception.

A close race at the top, then a sharp drop
Spider-Man: Brand New Day leads Avengers: Endgame by $2,976,565. The gap from second to third is much larger: Endgame is $96,976,438 ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The first two are close competitors for the record; the third is in a distinctly lower opening-gross tier.

The largest opening is not the largest opening share
The opening-share column puts those weekend figures in the context of each film’s listed domestic total. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has the highest share among these 20 at 45.6%; The Force Awakens has the lowest at 26.5%. Those percentages describe how much of each listed domestic gross arrived in the opening weekend. They do not explain why a film earned its total or indicate how audiences felt about it.
The list is concentrated in major franchises
Many entries are installments in the Marvel, Star Wars, Spider-Man, Jurassic, Harry Potter, or other established film series. That is a description of the titles on this chart, not evidence that any particular factor caused a film’s opening. The gross figures alone cannot establish the effects of marketing, reviews, release strategy, or audience anticipation.

- How to Play: Compete with your friends to identify popular movies from the most convoluted movie summaries possible. Has your mom ever tried to explain a film that she just watched? Did it make one ounce of sense? Of course not–and that’s precisely the inspiration for this game. For example: A goose suddenly dies and it makes everyone really depressed. Psst, it’s 'Top Gun’.
- Package Includes: Features 125 game cards–each featuring a uniquely-terrible description of a movie. Includes instructions for two distinct ways to play (competitive & casual). Suitable for 2 to 8 players.
- Perfect for parties: Brass Monkey’s “Poorly Explained Movies Game” is the perfect party game to make sure everyone has a great time, bring it to your next college dorm game night, happy hour, or even bachelor/bachelorette party and see for yourself.
