20 Best Earth Day Deals (2024): Ebikes, Chargers, and Recycled-Material Bags

WIRED’s Earth Day 2024 deals included 20 eco-conscious products, but the discounts are expired. Here’s what each offered, what the sustainability claims meant, and which bargains carried the most risk.

These were WIRED’s Earth Day deals published April 19, 2024, ahead of Earth Day on April 22. They included discounts on ebikes, scooters, chargers, bags, mattresses, reusable products, a thermostat, and portable power. The prices and coupon codes below are historical and should not be treated as active in 2026.

For personal-finance purposes, the best deal was not always the biggest markdown. A $900 mattress discount could still leave a buyer with a high-cost purchase, while a smaller discount on a durable charger, bottle, or bag might replace recurring or disposable purchases for years. The strongest choices were products that solved a real need and could be used long enough to justify their price.

What these Earth Day deals actually covered

The original WIRED roundup was a broad eco-conscious shopping list rather than a guide exclusively about ebikes, chargers, or recycled plastic. Its sustainability claims fell into several categories:

  • Recycled content: bags, the Victrola record player, and the Seljak blanket.
  • Bio-based or alternative materials: Nimble chargers and nopal cactus material in the Lo & Sons bag.
  • Organic or natural materials: five latex, wool, cotton, or natural-material mattresses.
  • Reusable alternatives: a Klean Kanteen bottle and Intimina menstrual cup.
  • Energy management: the Google Nest Thermostat.
  • Lower-emission transportation: ebikes and electric scooters.
  • Portable electricity: the EcoFlow River 2 Pro, useful for camping or backup power but not automatically an environmental product.

Buying a product during an Earth Day sale does not, by itself, reduce environmental impact. The most defensible purchase is one that replaces something disposable, extends the life of an item, lowers recurring energy use, or replaces some car trips—and is used regularly for a long time.

Organic mattress deals

The five mattress promotions had the largest dollar discounts, but a large markdown does not necessarily mean a bargain. Mattress brands frequently run sales, and the financial outcome depends heavily on trial periods, return fees, foundation requirements, shipping, and warranty exclusions.

Avocado Green Organic Hybrid Mattress — $1,699

The $300 discount applied to WIRED’s top organic mattress pick. It uses organic latex, wool, and cotton, and the reviewer had tested it for nearly two years without observing sagging. That is useful durability evidence, but it does not eliminate the need to check the seller’s current trial and return conditions.

Birch Luxe Natural Mattress — $2,099

The $500 discount also included two free Eco-Rest pillows. WIRED described this as a favorite organic mattress, particularly for side sleepers who prefer a medium-firm feel. “Organic” should be evaluated by looking at which components carry that description rather than assuming every part has identical certification.

Saatva Zenhaven — $2,801

The $494-off Zenhaven used a flippable design with plush and firm sides and appeared in WIRED’s organic mattress guide. The important caveat was that the claimed firmness difference was not especially apparent during testing. At this price, exchange and return costs matter as much as the advertised savings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Turmerry Organic Latex — $1,099

Turmerry offered the biggest stated mattress markdown: $900. The mattress was mostly latex and could be configured for firmness, while its lighter weight made moving it easier than some all-latex alternatives. Confirm the selected configuration before checkout because it affects both price and feel.

Zewdov Bike Lights for Night Riding, Rechargeable Bike Light Front and Back
  • Ultra Slim & Portable Design: This 2026 bike light set features a sleek and compact design, with a thickness of only 1.7cm and a weight of 27g. It won't take up too much space on your bicycle. The slim form factor enables you to tuck it into any chest or jeans pocket with ease, making it ideal for outdoor activities, camping, or traveling.
  • Efficient Recharging: Fully charge both the bike lights simultaneously in just 1-1.5 hours with the included USB cable. The 2-in-1 cable design maximizes convenience and reduces charging time, while the Type-C protection port provides reliable performance by protecting against rainwater infiltration. Battery life: up to7 months. (If it has not been used for 3 months, it is recommended to charge it promptly to ensure optimal performance for each ride.)
  • Innovative DIY Lighting Modes: No longer worry about obstacles during nighttime with this essential companion! The white front light features 4 lighting modes and the red bike taillight offers 6 modes, including a memory function. With exceptional visibility, riders behind you will easily spot you, and the non-dazzling breathing flash mode enhances overall safety.
  • Shockproof and Waterproof IP65: Our bicycle lights front and rear are crafted with premium PC materials to ensure durability and longevity. With a high-quality sturdy shell, you can confidently ride without the fear of dropping or falling. The IP65 water-resistant rating allows you to enjoy cycling even in rainy or foggy conditions.
  • Easy to Install and Versatile: Comes with 2 pairs of elastic rubber straps that provide ease of attachment to the front and rear of your bicycle. Our bike lights set not only functions as a safety light during cycling but also serves as an emergency light in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, or fishing. In addition, the rechargeable bike lights front and back can be used for electric scooters, strollers, backpacks, etc.

Awara Natural Hybrid — $949

At $750 off, Awara was the lower-priced natural hybrid in the list. WIRED described it as supportive and bouncy, with rigid edges and side handles. The company reportedly warned that the handles should not be used to transport the mattress, so buyers should plan for delivery and setup rather than treating them as moving straps.

Chargers, bags, and recycled-material goods

Nimble Champ Portable Charger — $48

Nimble’s Champ was WIRED’s favorite portable charger. The product used bioplastics and minimal packaging, and its capacity was described as enough for roughly two or three smartphone charges. Actual results depend on the phone, battery health, conversion losses, and whether the device is being used while charging. The $12 discount required LESSWASTE.

Nimble Apollo + Wally — $30

This wireless charging bundle used recycled silicone on the charging surface, along with postconsumer plastic and alloy elsewhere, and included a 20-watt wall charger. It was a sensible bundle for a compatible phone, but wired charging is generally faster and more energy-efficient. Wireless convenience should be the reason to buy—not an assumption that the product is automatically greener.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Lo & Sons Nouvelle — $118

The $30-off Nouvelle was a WIRED Recommends product with an 8/10 rating. It used recycled nylon and polyester and substituted nopal cactus material for leather in some construction. Those are material attributes, not proof of a lower total footprint; expected service life, repair options, and whether it replaces an existing bag are equally important.

Targus Zero Waste EcoSmart Backpack — $43

Targus said the backpack used material from 20 recycled plastic water bottles and shipped it rolled in recycled plastic packaging. That bottle-equivalent claim should be treated as a brand or product-description claim, not as a lifecycle analysis. At $43, compare laptop padding, empty weight, strap comfort, warranty, and water resistance with ordinary backpacks.

Cuvccn Bike Lights Super Bright, Rechargeable Bicycle Lights Set Multiple Modes, Waterproof Bike Lights for Night Riding/Cycling Safety, Front and Back Bike Reflectors Light, Long Battery Life
  • HIGH BRIGHTNESS & MULTI LIGHT MODES - Each bike light is designed with 2 main LEDs and 19 surrounding auxiliary LEDs, controlled by independent switches. The front light has 2 X 4 modes and the tail light has 2 X 6 modes, which can be used individually or in combination to meet your needs.
  • LONG RUNTIME & BATTERY INDICATOR – Our front light for bikes is equipped with 1100MAH large capacity battery, and the taillight’s is 350MAH. In "Slow Flash" mode, the headlights can last up to 58 hours and the taillight lasts 25 hours. When power drops below 20%, the indicator on the switch flashes green as a low-battery reminder. The battery retention lasts up to 9 months, but for optimal performance, we recommend recharging them if unused for over 3 months.
  • IPX6 WATERPROOF - Reaching IPX6 waterproof level, this bicycle light set works well on rainy or foggy days, allowing you to enjoy your ride. The USB port comes with a waterproof silicone cover that effectively blocks water and extends its life.
  • EASY TO INSTALL - The LED bike light can be installed with your bare hands without the aid of other tools, even for the children. 4 easy steps - Put the buckle on, attach to the handlebar and snap it into the appropriate hole, and you could adjust it to horizontal or vertical accordingly.
  • MULTIPLE USES - With super bright light, the bike lights can be used not only for riding even on technical trails or bumpy roads, but also for hiking, camping, or as an emergency flashlight during outdoor activities. It’s a must-have to keep you safe in any environment that requires lighting.

Moment Tech Tote — $99

Moment’s $51-off tote was WIRED’s favorite tote. It had a recycled nylon exterior, a dedicated 16-inch laptop compartment, a zip closure, and organizational pockets. It may suit commuters who prefer a tote, but a backpack is usually more comfortable for carrying a heavy laptop, charger, and other equipment over distance.

Cotopaxi Cada Día Todo Convertible Tote — $51

The convertible tote/backpack used recycled nylon and polyester ripstop, with a fleece-lined outer pocket and zippered main compartment. It was a practical choice for shoppers wanting two carry modes, although convertible construction can trade away structure and load comfort. Cotopaxi’s current products should not be confused with this specific 2024 price; its current collection is a separate availability check.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Victrola Re-Spin — $50 at Walmart

The portable Bluetooth suitcase record player was listed at $50 at Walmart and $75 at Amazon. Its product description reported 25 percent recycled plastic, along with portability and low weight. A cheap record player can involve compromises in sound quality, tracking, and long-term record wear, so the sustainability benefit is weaker if the product is quickly replaced.

Seljak Earth Blanket — $99

The blanket was described as made entirely from recycled materials and marked down $98. However, the sale was connected to Seljak shutting down, and there were no returns. This was the list’s highest-risk bargain: a large discount cannot compensate for losing normal return protection or uncertainty around support.

Energy, reusable products, and personal care

Google Nest Thermostat — $90

The $40-off thermostat could schedule heating and cooling and lower settings when occupants leave. It might qualify for a utility rebate, but a national article cannot promise one: eligibility depends on the local utility, HVAC compatibility, installation, enrollment, and sometimes a C-wire or power adapter. Include professional installation in the budget if needed, and consider app, account, and cloud-service requirements.

EcoFlow River 2 Pro — $449

The portable power station was $150 off with an Amazon coupon. WIRED identified it as its most portable tested power station, with 768 Wh of capacity, a weight of approximately 17 pounds, many ports, and a recharge time of just over an hour in its testing. Capacity is not the same as usable output, and it is not automatically greener than a gasoline generator; that comparison depends on charging source, electricity mix, use case, and what is being powered. EcoFlow’s current RIVER 2 accessory page does not verify current availability of the 2024 Pro unit.

Klean Kanteen Classic — about $28

The reusable-bottle pick was 20 percent off with EARTH24, a code that is no longer presumed active. A bottle can be a financially sensible purchase when it replaces repeated disposable bottles and is used for years. If you already own a durable bottle, buying another one solely because it is discounted is harder to justify.

Intimina Lily — $23

The $8-off menstrual cup was WIRED’s favorite in its category and was described as thin, flexible, and relatively beginner-friendly. Fit and comfort vary substantially, so this is a personal-use recommendation rather than a guarantee. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and hygiene guidance.

Ebikes and scooters

Model 2024 price Best fit Financial and practical concern
RadRunner 2 $1,299 Cargo carrying and replacing some short car trips Previous prices had been lower; budget for locks, maintenance, storage, and possible battery replacement
Niu KQi3 Max $760 Riders who need more hill capability among these scooters Weight, local rules, range variability, and service support
Niu KQi3 Pro $650 Lower-cost general scooter choice; WIRED preferred it overall Check motor output, range, legal use, safety gear, and return shipping
Heybike Tyson $1,399 Fat-tire riding and comfort About 77 pounds; transport and theft prevention can add significant cost

An ebike or scooter only produces meaningful financial and environmental value if it is used consistently. Before buying, check local helmet, registration, sidewalk, and roadway rules; battery certification and replacement availability; assembly requirements; secure storage; theft protection; service networks; and return shipping. Advertised range also changes with rider weight, hills, weather, tire pressure, speed, and cargo.

The RadRunner 2 was WIRED’s favorite Rad cargo ebike, but the publication noted that its price had previously fallen lower. That makes the $100 discount less compelling than the headline suggests. The Niu KQi3 Max was better suited to hills than the Pro, while WIRED preferred the Pro overall. Those are different use-case conclusions, not a universal winner.

  • Multifunction: This bike light set is versatile enough for cycling, hiking, camping, or any outdoor activity and can be used as emergency flashlight. This is great for cycling at night or in places where visibility and safety are concern.

How to judge the “eco-friendly” claims

“Made from recycled plastic” is not one uniform standard. Recycled plastic bottles are a specific feedstock claim. Recycled nylon and recycled polyester are synthetic fibers that may originate from plastic waste but are not necessarily bottle-derived. “Made with recycled materials” also does not reveal the percentage unless the brand supplies it.

Recycled content does not mean the finished item is recyclable at the end of its life. Mixed fibers, coatings, foam, adhesives, zippers, and metal hardware can make recycling difficult. Durability, repairability, warranty coverage, spare parts, and service life may matter more than a recycled-content label.

The same caution applies to mattresses. Organic latex, wool, and cotton can be meaningful material distinctions, but they do not automatically establish a lower total environmental impact. Shipping, returns, replacement frequency, certifications, and how long the mattress lasts also matter. Likewise, a thermostat’s potential energy savings depend on household behavior and HVAC operation, not merely installation.

A buyer’s checklist

Before buying a mattress

  • Read the trial period, return fees, exchange rules, and pickup process.
  • Check platform requirements, height, weight, delivery method, and foundation cost.
  • Identify which components are organic or certified.
  • Review warranty exclusions, especially sagging requirements.

Before buying an ebike or scooter

  • Confirm local laws, helmet rules, and where the vehicle may be ridden.
  • Compare total weight with stairs, elevators, storage, and vehicle racks.
  • Check battery certification, replacement availability, charger cost, and service coverage.
  • Budget for a lock, helmet, maintenance, assembly, and theft protection.
  • Evaluate real-world range rather than relying only on the headline specification.

Before buying chargers or power stations

  • Check USB-C Power Delivery wattage, port types, capacity, and usable output.
  • Verify phone compatibility and whether a wall charger is included.
  • Review airline battery restrictions if the charger will be used for travel.
  • Check warranty, repairability, and battery replacement options.

Before buying a bag

  • Look for recycled-content percentage, not just “eco” wording.
  • Compare empty weight, laptop padding, water resistance, strap comfort, and capacity.
  • Check repair services, spare parts, warranty, and closure design.
  • Do not assume a convertible tote will carry heavy loads as comfortably as a backpack.

How strong were the deals?

The largest stated markdowns were Turmerry ($900), Awara ($750), Birch ($500), Saatva Zenhaven ($494), Heybike ($300), Niu KQi3 Max ($240), and EcoFlow ($150). But percentage and dollar savings are not the same as value. Mattresses often carry large list prices and run frequent promotions, while a modestly discounted product that replaces disposable purchases may have a clearer payback.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Evidence quality also varied. Some products were explicitly WIRED-tested, rated, or named in a buying guide: the Avocado mattress, Lo & Sons Nouvelle, Nimble Champ, Moment tote, EcoFlow River 2 Pro, RadRunner 2, and Niu scooters are examples. Other entries were included because of their category, materials, or sale. The 20 products should not be treated as equally tested or equally sustainable.

Historical-deal verdict

For a 2024 shopper, the most defensible everyday purchases were the Klean Kanteen bottle, Nimble Champ, and a durable bag such as the Targus, Moment, Cotopaxi, or Lo & Sons model—provided the buyer actually needed one. The most consequential purchases were the Nest Thermostat and an ebike or scooter, but they required compatibility, legal, storage, and total-cost checks. Mattresses and the EcoFlow power station warranted the most careful ownership-cost analysis. The Seljak blanket was the riskiest bargain because it was tied to a shutdown and had no returns.

For readers shopping now, the central lesson is simple: do not reuse the 2024 prices or codes. Treat the list as historical context, then compare current official pricing, warranty, returns, replacement parts, and availability. Current related products can be found through official sellers such as Cotopaxi’s pack collection, Rad Power Bikes, Nimble, and EcoFlow, but those pages do not recreate the 2024 promotions.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
