That is a published estimate, not a verified sale price—and other outlets give different figures for the same dress. The ranking below follows Hitched’s original order and reports its amounts as editorial figures, not as a definitive, audited league table.
Hitched’s 19 most expensive celebrity wedding dresses
Hitched published this ranking on 17 November 2021. Its amounts are reported values in pounds, and the list includes royal wedding gowns as well as celebrity dresses. The figures should not be treated as confirmed purchase prices; the source and any important qualification are noted alongside each entry.
- Serena Williams — £2.6 million. Hitched reports this price for her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown. Williams wore three dresses that day, according to Hitched; Parade describes the first as a ball gown with a cape, followed by two Versace reception looks. Hitched; Parade.
- Victoria Swarovski — £800,000. Hitched reports this value for a Michael Cinco gown featuring 500,000 Swarovski crystals and says it reportedly weighed 46 kg. The Knot instead lists the gown at $1 million and describes it as weighing about 100 pounds, with a 26-foot lace veil. These are different outlets’ reported figures and details. Hitched; The Knot.
- Salma Hayek — £430,000. Hitched lists this reported amount for her Balenciaga gown. The Knot gives a different estimate of $434,000. Hitched; The Knot.
- Kim Kardashian — £400,000. Hitched labels this rumored price for the Givenchy gown designed by Riccardo Tisci. The Knot lists $500,000, another publisher’s figure rather than a confirmed transaction price. Hitched; The Knot.
- Kate Middleton — £250,000. Hitched lists this amount for the Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown. British Vogue’s estimate was £325,176 in 2011 and £375,739 in its later “today” valuation; The Knot lists $434,000. British Vogue describes hand-cut English and Chantilly lace, 58 gazar-silk-covered buttons and an underskirt of white and ivory satin gazar trimmed with Cluny lace. These estimates use different currencies and valuation bases. Hitched; British Vogue; The Knot.
- Mariah Carey — £250,000. Hitched reports this price for a gown intended for her wedding to James Packer, which was cancelled. The dress was later burned for the “I Don’t” music video. Hitched.
- Chiara Ferragni — £231,000. Hitched lists this reported amount for her Dior haute couture gown. Hitched.
- Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece — £150,000. Hitched lists this amount for her custom Valentino gown. Hitched.
- Coleen Rooney — £130,000. Hitched lists this price for her Marchesa gown. It separately reports £85,000 in fitting travel costs, which is not included in the gown price. Hitched.
- Elizabeth Taylor — £122,000. This is the 2013 auction result Hitched reports for the Helen Rose gown Taylor wore at her first wedding. The sale price was above the £30,000 estimate. Unlike most entries here, this figure is a reported auction result, not a reported original design cost. Hitched.
- Meghan Markle — £110,000. Hitched lists this amount for the Givenchy gown designed by Clare Waight Keller. Hitched.
- Catherine Zeta-Jones — £104,000. Hitched lists this amount for her custom Christian Lacroix gown and gives the equivalent as $140,000. Hitched.
- Princess Diana — £95,000. Hitched lists this amount for the gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel and says it would be £365,000 in today’s money. That inflation-adjusted figure is Hitched’s separate comparison, not the amount used for this ranking. Hitched.
- Victoria Beckham — £80,000. Hitched lists this reported amount for her Vera Wang gown. Hitched.
- Nicky Hilton — £57,000. Hitched lists this amount for her Valentino gown and gives the equivalent as $77,000. Hitched.
- Grace Kelly — £50,000. Hitched says the Helen Rose gown’s estimate was about $65,000 at the time and £463,000 in today’s money. British Vogue describes thousands of hand-sewn pearls, 125-year-old Brussels lace and a construction made from 10 separate pieces. The inflation-adjusted figure is not the historical amount Hitched used to order its ranking. Hitched; British Vogue.
- Pippa Middleton — £40,000. Hitched lists this amount for her Giles Deacon gown. Hitched.
- Ivanka Trump — £38,000. Hitched lists this amount for her Vera Wang gown and gives the equivalent as $50,000. Hitched.
- Katie Holmes — £38,000. Hitched lists this amount for her Armani gown and gives the equivalent as $50,000. Hitched.
Why published prices do not produce one definitive ranking
These figures are not one consistent set of transactions. A list may combine a reported gown cost, a rumor, an estimate from the year of a wedding, an inflation-adjusted present-day value or an auction result. Currency conversions and valuation dates also differ. Hitched’s ordering follows the pound amounts printed with its entries, even where the article supplies a separate “today’s money” figure for an older gown.
Other publishers show how much the estimates can diverge. British Vogue gives Serena Williams’s gown as about £2,622,945 in 2017 and £2,781,060 in its later “today” valuation, compared with Hitched’s £2.6 million. Vogue gives Victoria Swarovski’s gown as £1,412,381 in 2017 and £749,412 “today,” rather than Hitched’s £800,000. The Knot estimates Williams’s gown at $3.5 million and lists Swarovski’s at $1 million. These are each outlet’s estimates, not independently confirmed receipts. British Vogue; The Knot.

The lists also differ in who and what they include. The Knot names Priyanka Chopra’s Ralph Lauren gown at an estimated $2 million; Parade gives an original estimate of around $2 million and a nearly $2.6 million 2026 equivalent. That gown does not appear in Hitched’s November 2021 19-entry list. The Knot; Parade.

How to read the amounts
- Reported cost is not necessarily a confirmed price paid. Treat an estimate or rumor as a publisher’s reported figure, not a receipt.
- Keep auction proceeds separate from design cost. Taylor’s entry is an auction sale in 2013; it does not establish what the gown cost to make or buy originally.
- Do not mix the dress with related expenses. Rooney’s reported fitting travel is separate from the gown amount; a veil, jewelry, shoes or additional outfit may also be counted differently across lists.
- Do not silently substitute inflation-adjusted amounts. The year and publisher matter, and a present-day estimate answers a different question from the figure used in Hitched’s 2021 order.
- Check the list’s scope and date. Some entries are royal wedding looks, and Carey’s gown was for a cancelled wedding rather than a completed ceremony.
