Fifteen workmates shared a $30 million Powerball Division One prize after their System 10 ticket, bought at Malaga Newsagency, won in 2024. Each received an equal $2 million share, according to Lotterywest’s announcement on 31 October 2024.
How the workmates’ ticket won
The group’s unnamed organiser told Lotterywest he had run the syndicate for more than seven years. He normally bought a Saturday Lotto ticket for the group each week, as well as a ticket when jackpots reached $50 million or more. After forgetting the Saturday Lotto ticket, he said he worried about what his colleagues would say, noticed Powerball was at $30 million and bought a ticket for that draw instead.
That account of how the ticket was chosen comes from the ticket-holder as relayed by Lotterywest; it does not mean the choice made a win more likely. The winning ticket was a System 10 ticket sold at Malaga Newsagency.
How much each winner received
The 15 workmates shared the $30 million prize equally, giving each member $2 million. Lotterywest described the winners as men and women ranging in age from their 30s to their 60s.

What the winners planned to do
The ticket-holder said he planned to retire early and travel around Australia in a caravan with his wife. Lotterywest also reported that other members were considering early retirement, helping their children, visiting relatives overseas and taking long-planned holidays. One winner joked that she bought a pineapple after hearing the news because it was her ultimate treat.
What Lotterywest said about the win
In its 31 October 2024 announcement, Lotterywest called it Western Australia’s first Powerball win of 2024 and the state’s largest Division One prize since April 2023. Those descriptions refer to the announcement’s 2024 timeframe.

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said: “It was incredible welcoming this group of 15 winners into the Lotterywest Winners Room and seeing how ecstatic they were.” The ticket-holder said: “We should never have had a ticket for this draw. I’ve never expected to win but play happily knowing that some of the money goes to helping the community.”
Lotterywest said the three-week Powerball jackpot run raised $5.9 million for its grants program, which supports community groups throughout Western Australia. That figure was reported by Lotterywest in 2024, not as a current annual total.
