Memory and storage
As practical buying guidance rather than an official standard, 16GB RAM is a sensible target for a new Windows laptop; 8GB can work for light school or web use but leaves less room for multitasking, while 4GB is best reserved for very limited Chromebook workloads. Consider 32GB for virtual machines, large development projects, or video editing. Check whether memory is soldered, because that can prevent later upgrades.
For most buyers, 512GB is a more comfortable storage baseline than 128GB or 256GB. Games, video, photography, and development environments can justify 1TB. Check storage type: UFS is not interchangeable with an NVMe SSD in performance or upgrade assumptions.
Screen and portability
Confirm resolution, brightness, color coverage, refresh rate, and whether the panel is glossy or matte.
