14 Used High-End Sports Cars That May Be More Attainable to Own

Some premium sports cars become more attainable on the used market, but a low asking price does not make one inexpensive to own. Tires, brakes, specialized parts, labor, insurance, fuel and deferred maintenance can change the economics substantially. This U.S.-focused shortlist names 14 body-style and model options to investigate—not a verified ranking—and none can be called affordable for every buyer without checking its model year, condition and local costs.

What “affordable to own” means for a used sports car

There is no model-specific ownership-cost dataset here that supports a reliable annual-cost figure or a universal price ceiling. Treat affordability as a comparison between a particular car’s purchase price and its likely costs in your area. Registration, insurance, fuel, maintenance and repairs all belong in the budget; specialized performance parts can make service more expensive than a low listing price suggests. Kelley Blue Book discusses these ownership considerations in its Sports Car Buying Guide, while the Federal Trade Commission advises shoppers to account for ongoing costs in its used-car buying guidance.

The 2026 iSeeCars luxury sports-car ranking offers comparative reliability evidence, based on the likelihood of reaching a high-mileage threshold. It is not a repair-cost table or a guarantee about a given model year or individual car. Car and Driver’s used luxury sports-car ranking provides editorial context on options such as the Corvette Stingray and Porsche 718 Boxster, not a promise of local transaction prices. Use both as starting points, then investigate a specific year and example.

14 used high-end sports cars to put on your shortlist

The choices below are model and body-style options, not a canonical top 14. The iSeeCars comparison directly covers several models and variants listed below; it does not establish the same ranking coverage for every option, including the 718 variants. For each one, compare examples from a defined generation or model year and verify local prices, service requirements, known year-specific issues, and parts and labor estimates before deciding that it fits your budget.

  1. Chevrolet Corvette coupe: A performance-car candidate highlighted in both the iSeeCars comparison and Car and Driver’s used-car coverage. Compare the specific year’s service history, condition and insurance costs rather than assuming a lower used price means low running costs.
  2. Chevrolet Corvette convertible: A separate body-style option included in iSeeCars’ comparison. Inspect the individual car and verify its service needs and condition; the ranking does not establish repair costs for a particular convertible.
  3. Porsche 911 coupe: Included in the iSeeCars luxury sports-car comparison. Prestige and comparative reliability evidence do not settle whether an example is affordable to maintain; get a model-year-specific service estimate.
  4. Porsche 911 convertible: Another listed 911 body style. Assess the particular vehicle’s records, condition and warranty terms independently of any model-level ranking.
  5. Porsche 718 Boxster: Car and Driver describes the 718 Boxster as an entry-level Porsche with strong handling and engines. That editorial assessment is not a cost guarantee, and the iSeeCars page does not rank 718 variants.
  6. Porsche 718 Cayman: A related option to research by exact year and specification. The comparison does not establish a 718-specific reliability ranking or ownership-cost figure.
  7. BMW M4 coupe: Appears in iSeeCars’ comparison. Before buying, price the maintenance and repairs for the exact year and vehicle, and include insurance and tire costs in your own budget.
  8. BMW M4 convertible: A separate body-style candidate also included in the comparison. Evaluate its records and inspection results as an individual car; a ranking cannot establish its condition.
  9. Mercedes-Benz SL-Class: Listed in the iSeeCars luxury sports-car comparison. A candidate’s used-market appeal should be weighed against a written estimate of likely service needs and the example’s maintenance history.
  10. Maserati GranTurismo: Also included in iSeeCars’ comparison. Do not treat comparative reliability evidence as proof of low repair costs; check parts availability and local labor estimates for the specific car.
  11. Audi S5 coupe: Appears in the comparison. Confirm the exact model year’s service requirements, condition and coverage, and estimate insurance and repairs locally.
  12. Audi S5 convertible: Another listed S5 body style. Base the decision on its own service records and mechanical inspection rather than transferring assumptions from another year or vehicle.
  13. Jaguar F-Type coupe: Included in iSeeCars’ comparison. Get an independent inspection and model-year-specific service estimates before treating an attractive asking price as an affordable ownership proposition.
  14. BMW Z4: A model in the comparison that may suit a shopper seeking a different kind of sports-car experience. As with the others, the ranking does not show what a particular Z4 will cost to maintain.

How to compare the real cost of ownership

Compare like with like: the same generation or model year where possible, and the same level of detail for each candidate. A useful comparison includes asking price, mileage, service records, inspection findings, insurance and fuel costs, likely maintenance and repairs, and any warranty or certified-pre-owned coverage. Use local estimates and note their date; costs vary by location, specification and vehicle condition.

Do not convert a reliability ranking into an annual maintenance estimate. Reliability is one comparison point; it does not tell you the repair bill for a particular car or the condition of a specific example.

What to check before buying

  1. Set a full ownership budget. Include purchase-related costs as well as registration, insurance, fuel, maintenance and repairs. Research the exact model, options, mileage and service requirements.
  2. Read the dealer’s Buyers Guide and warranty terms. The FTC distinguishes a warranty from a service contract. If a service contract is offered, review its coverage, deductible, exclusions, provider and cancellation terms before agreeing.
  3. Get a vehicle history report and verify the records. History reports may show accidents or flood damage, but the FTC says they typically do not list mechanical problems. Check title and maintenance records against the car itself.
  4. Arrange an independent mechanical inspection. Do this even if a dealer says the car is certified or inspected. Ask for the findings in writing, along with repair estimates, and use them to decide whether to proceed or negotiate.
  5. Check recalls and coverage by VIN. Look for open safety recalls and confirm warranty coverage, expiration and transfer terms for the individual vehicle.
  6. Recalculate after inspection. Add any identified repairs and near-term service needs to your budget. If the numbers no longer work, walk away or negotiate on the basis of the written findings.

For a vehicle-specific warranty example, Porsche says its Porsche Approved pre-owned cars are inspected and may include limited warranty coverage, roadside assistance and vehicle service protection. Benefits and eligibility depend on the car and program terms; confirm them in writing for the individual VIN. The program is not evidence that every used Porsche is certified. See Porsche Certified Pre-owned.
