Floyd Mayweather is the leading name in a Sports Illustrated/FanNation article titled “10 Richest Boxers Of All Time,” which estimates his wealth at $400 million. The same article estimates George Foreman’s wealth at $300 million. Those are publication estimates, not audited disclosures—and the available evidence does not establish the article’s full ten-person ranking or a consistent method for comparing the boxers.

What “richest” means—and what the figures do not prove

A richest-boxers list generally purports to rank estimated personal net worth: the value of a person’s assets after liabilities. That is not the same as career earnings, a single fight purse, annual income, pay-per-view revenue, or a company’s sales. Gross earnings also do not show how much an athlete retained after taxes, expenses, investments, and other obligations.

For that reason, figures from different sources or years cannot be combined into a reliable ranking without knowing what each one measures and how it was calculated. Net worth estimates are especially difficult to verify for private individuals when the source does not disclose its valuation method or underlying financial information.

The estimates that can be attributed

Sports Illustrated/FanNation’s title-matched article estimates Mayweather’s wealth at $400 million and Foreman’s at $300 million. The publication date and methodology are not established in the available account of the article. Treat both numbers as that publication’s estimates, not confirmed current balances or audited figures.

Boxer Reported figure What it represents Attribution and qualification
Floyd Mayweather $400 million Estimated wealth Sports Illustrated/FanNation; publication date and calculation method not established.
George Foreman $300 million Estimated wealth Sports Illustrated/FanNation; publication date and calculation method not established.

The evidence available for this article does not establish the remaining eight entries or enough methodology to validate a complete top ten. Filling those places with names or estimates from unrelated rankings would create a misleading list: the figures might use different dates, definitions, and methods.

Why Mayweather’s $300 million earnings year is a different figure

Mayweather’s $300 million figure is also widely cited in coverage of Forbes’ 2015 highest-paid-athletes list. Guinness World Records reports that Forbes data put Mayweather’s earnings at $300 million for June 2014 to June 2015; Manny Pacquiao’s reported earnings for that same period were $160 million. TIME’s 2015 report likewise describes Mayweather’s $300 million as earnings over the preceding 12 months and connects the exceptional year to the Pacquiao bout.

These are historical annual earnings figures, not estimates of either boxer’s net worth. They describe money earned during a specific twelve-month period; they do not establish how much remained after taxes and other costs, or the value of assets and liabilities at a later date.

How Foreman’s business income fits into the story

Foreman’s wealth coverage points to income beyond the ring: Yahoo Sports describes his grill business as part of the explanation for his fortune. That is relevant context for why a boxer’s financial story may include business ventures as well as fight earnings. It does not, by itself, verify the $300 million estimate or disclose how the business income was valued in the ranking.

Can these figures establish the ten richest boxers?

No. The cited material supports two attributed wealth estimates and historical annual earnings figures for Mayweather and Pacquiao, but it does not provide a complete, consistently calculated list of ten current net worths. A defensible ranking would need comparable estimates for every boxer, clear valuation dates, and transparent methods. Until those are available, the $400 million and $300 million amounts are best read as estimates from one publication—not as proof of a definitive all-time order.
