The strongest documented record is a £8,000 ($16,420) VIP haircut package performed by Stuart Phillips in London in 2007. Other widely cited figures cover very different things: a stylist’s travel and lodging, a film-scene payment, or a historical salon cut-and-blow-dry price. Here are the notable claims, with their scope and dates made clear.
Why a definitive top 10 is hard to verify
A ranked list is meaningful only when its entries measure the same thing. A salon haircut, a cut-and-blow-dry, a VIP package with transport, and a payment for a film scene are not directly comparable. Nor should a historical price be presented as a current salon rate.
A 2026 roundup uses the phrase “Top 10 Most Expensive Hair Cuts In The World 2026,” but its entries mix service prices, travel expenses, color, weekly styling, and a film-scene payment. The page does not visibly establish primary sourcing for every claim, so it does not support a reliable current ranking of 10 individual haircut prices: Nubia Magazine’s 2026 roundup.

Stuart Phillips: the documented record package
Guinness World Records identifies Stuart Phillips as the stylist and records an £8,000 ($16,420) haircut for Beverley Lateo at the Stuart Phillips Salon in Covent Garden, London, on 29 October 2007. The record page describes a package that included more than the haircut: a Champagne lunch, head and scalp massage, personalized L’Oréal products and treatments, and a return limousine ride from the airport. The Sultan of Brunei: a travel-inclusive reported total
TIME reported that Ken Modestou traveled about 7,000 miles (11,000 km) from London to Brunei to cut the Sultan’s hair. The reported £15,000 ($23,000) figure included the trip, food, and a hotel stay of three or four nights; TIME said the haircut itself cost a few thousand pounds. The same report said Modestou charged about £30 per cut at his London hotel barbershop when the story appeared. The £15,000 figure is therefore not a salon price for the haircut alone. Michael Douglas: a film-scene payment, not a customer bill
TIME reported that barber Arthur Kennedy received $1,000 in 1969 for cutting Michael Douglas’s hair in a film scene. TIME put that sum at roughly $6,000 in 2010 equivalent value, and said Douglas did not pay it. It is an unusual production-related payment, not evidence of a haircut price paid by the actor. Orlando Pita: a historical cut-and-blow-dry price
The Guardian reported in 2005 that a cut and blow-dry at Orlando Pita’s Orlo salon cost $800. Pita explained that he arrived at the salon rate by dividing his fashion-shoot day rate by eight, the hours in a working day. This is a reported historical salon price, not a current quote. Before treating any figure as a haircut price—or ranking it against another—check what the quoted amount actually buys and when it applied.

- Service scope: Is it a haircut alone, a cut and blow-dry, or a package with treatments and products?
- Added expenses: Are transport, lodging, meals, color, or on-call time included?
- Payer: Did the customer pay, or was the amount paid by a film production or another party?
- Date and place: A historical price is not proof of a present-day rate, and the location may matter.
- Currency basis: Keep the original amount distinct from any later inflation-adjusted equivalent.
On those terms, the Guinness entry is the clearest documented haircut record among these examples, but its stated amount covers a VIP package. The other figures are useful context, not like-for-like entries in a verified global top 10.
