There is no defensible universal “top 10” ranking here: the available official pricing information does not establish ten comparable plans that are currently orderable in one target region. It does, however, support a useful comparison of ten priced configurations from four providers. Treat these as options to verify—not performance winners—and check the live checkout for regional availability, taxes, renewal terms, and add-on charges.

A cheap VPS is good value only when its CPU model, memory, storage, transfer allowance, billing term, and administration requirements fit your workload. The prices below are provider-listed figures retrieved October 5, 2026; they are not a like-for-like regional quote.

10 cheap VPS plans and configurations to compare

The table groups plans by provider rather than ranking them. Hostinger’s figures are from its US page and require two years paid upfront. DigitalOcean’s and Akamai Cloud’s figures are provider-listed monthly prices. OVHcloud’s listed price is before VAT and is effective October 1, 2026. Check each provider’s order flow for your location and the final payable amount.

Provider and configuration Listed price and billing qualification Resources and included transfer What to verify
Hostinger KVM 1 $6.49/month equivalent for a two-year term paid upfront; renews at $11.99/month, per Hostinger’s US page retrieved October 5, 2026. 1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe, 4 TB bandwidth. Upfront term total, renewal rate, and US-region availability.
Hostinger KVM 2 $8.99/month equivalent for a two-year term paid upfront; renews at $14.99/month, per Hostinger’s US page retrieved October 5, 2026. 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe, 8 TB bandwidth. Upfront term total, renewal rate, and US-region availability.
Hostinger KVM 4 $12.99/month equivalent for a two-year term paid upfront; renews at $28.99/month, per Hostinger’s US page retrieved October 5, 2026. 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe, 16 TB bandwidth. Upfront term total, renewal rate, and US-region availability.
Hostinger KVM 8 $25.99/month equivalent for a two-year term paid upfront; renews at $49.99/month, per Hostinger’s US page retrieved October 5, 2026. 8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 400 GB NVMe, 32 TB bandwidth. Upfront term total, renewal rate, and US-region availability.
DigitalOcean Basic Droplet, 512 MiB $4/month, per DigitalOcean’s Basic Droplets pricing table. 1 vCPU, 512 MiB RAM, 10 GiB SSD, 500 GiB transfer. Whether 512 MiB is enough for the operating system and application; verify current regional availability and any usage charges.
DigitalOcean Basic Droplet, 1 GiB $6/month, per DigitalOcean’s Basic Droplets pricing table. 1 vCPU, 1 GiB RAM, 25 GiB SSD, 1,000 GiB transfer. Memory headroom and current regional availability.
DigitalOcean Basic Droplet, 2 GiB $12/month, per DigitalOcean’s Basic Droplets pricing table. 1 vCPU, 2 GiB RAM, 50 GiB SSD, 2,000 GiB transfer. Whether one variable-CPU vCPU suits the workload; verify current regional availability.
Akamai Cloud Nanode 1 GB US$5/month, per Akamai Cloud’s official pricing page. 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 25 GB storage, 1 TB transfer. Current regional availability and whether the shared-resource model meets your needs.
Akamai Cloud 8 GB shared CPU instance US$48/month, per Akamai Cloud’s official pricing page. 4 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM, 160 GB storage, 5 TB transfer. Current regional availability and CPU behavior for your sustained workload.
OVHcloud Discovery d2-2 US$6.74/month before VAT; OVHcloud lists this price as effective October 1, 2026. 1 vCore, 2 GB memory, 25 GB storage. Transfer allowance: not stated in the cited OVHcloud price list. Public IPv4 charges, VAT, regional availability, and the final checkout price.

These are not ten equivalent machines: RAM units and disk types differ, CPU allocation is not described identically, and the providers do not all specify the same billing basis. No comparable independent performance tests are established for these configurations.

Which cheap VPS is best value?

There is no single best-value choice without a workload, region, and billing term. A plan with a lower monthly headline can cost more over the period you need it, run short of memory, or include a CPU model poorly suited to your application. Compare total cost and usable resources for the same scenario rather than sorting by entry price alone.

  • For a very small or experimental server: DigitalOcean’s 512 MiB Basic Droplet has the lowest listed monthly figure in this comparison, but its memory is limited. Check that your operating system and application fit before choosing it.
  • For more included resources on an upfront term: Hostinger’s KVM options list comparatively generous RAM, NVMe capacity, and bandwidth at their stated two-year introductory monthly equivalents. The renewal prices are substantially higher for some tiers, so compare the full term and renewal period you expect to keep the server.
  • For development and testing: Akamai Cloud describes shared CPU as cost-efficient for development and testing. DigitalOcean describes Basic Droplets as suitable for workloads that underuse dedicated threads and can handle variable CPU. Those descriptions are provider positioning, not independent performance guarantees.
  • For sustained high-CPU work: look for an explicitly dedicated-vCPU option and price it separately. Hetzner distinguishes dedicated-vCPU plans for sustained high-CPU workloads from shared-resource plans, but the retrieved evidence does not establish a currently orderable Hetzner bargain to add to this list.

What is the cheapest VPS hosting?

Among the listed figures here, DigitalOcean’s 512 MiB Basic Droplet is $4/month. That is a provider-listed price, not a universal checkout total or a recommendation for every workload. Its small memory allowance, regional availability, applicable taxes, and any additional services still matter. Hetzner’s CX23 is not counted as a purchasable low-cost option: its product page described 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe, and 20 TB included traffic but marked it unavailable when retrieved.

How to compare the real cost of a VPS

  1. Choose the region and usage period. Set the server location based on where users or services are, then compare providers for the same period. A regional price or availability cannot safely be assumed from a general pricing page.
  2. Calculate the amount you will actually pay. Include upfront commitments, renewal rates, VAT, public IPv4, backups or snapshots, transfer overages, and required add-ons. OVHcloud’s listed Discovery price is before VAT; its price list also notes a public IPv4 billing change effective October 1, 2026.
  3. Compare CPU allocation, not just the vCPU count. Shared or variable CPU can be economical for light or uneven demand. Sustained workloads may need dedicated cores, which changes the price tier. A vCPU count alone does not establish comparable performance.
  4. Size RAM and storage for the application. Check the operating system, application, database, and expected concurrency together. Distinguish SSD from NVMe where specified, and allow disk headroom for logs, updates, and data growth.
  5. Check transfer and network limits. Compare included transfer units and whether excess use is charged or restricted. A large allowance is useful only if it applies in your region and workload.
  6. Confirm availability in checkout. Product pages can show plans that are unavailable in a particular region or at a particular time. Hetzner’s June 15, 2026 price-adjustment notice gives revised regional prices and says prices exclude VAT; check the current offer rather than inferring a live price from an older product description.
  7. Account for administration. A self-managed VPS requires you to handle operating-system updates, security, backups, monitoring, and application maintenance unless the provider explicitly includes those services. Do not treat a low infrastructure price as a managed-hosting price.

How much RAM do you need for a VPS?

There is no reliable single RAM minimum for all VPS uses. The examples range from DigitalOcean’s 512 MiB configuration to Hostinger’s 4–32 GB tiers, but those specifications alone do not prove what a particular website or database requires. Estimate the operating system’s baseline plus the memory used under expected application load, and leave room for spikes. If you cannot estimate that yet, start with a workload test or choose a plan that can be resized without disruptive migration.

Is a cheap VPS good for hosting a website?

It can be, if the website’s traffic and software fit the server’s resources and you can administer it securely. A small static site or low-traffic application may not need sustained CPU, while a database-backed site, busy store, or poorly optimized application can hit memory, CPU, or storage limits. The plans above do not come with a shared benchmark, so do not infer site capacity from the price or vCPU count alone. Confirm backups, scaling options, network limits, and the support scope before moving a production site.
