Cheap web hosting is only cheap when the renewal bill, required prepayment, email limits, backups, and resource caps still work for your site. A $1 promotional rate can cost more than a $3 plan once the introductory term ends.
This comparison evaluates 10 budget-friendly providers using U.S. advertised pricing and current entry-plan details checked in 2026. Prices are monthly equivalents unless stated otherwise; most require paying for a full year or longer upfront. Taxes, domain renewals, premium email, and optional add-ons may change the final checkout total.

1. Hostinger: best overall cheap hosting
Hostinger Premium is the strongest all-around choice for a new personal site, portfolio, blog, or small business website. The advertised rate is $2.99 per month, but it requires a 48-month term, making the initial hosting charge approximately $143.52 before taxes or extras. Renewal is $10.99 per month.

- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
The current comparison lists three websites, 20 GB of storage, 2 GB of RAM, one CPU core, 10 databases, unlimited bandwidth, free SSL, migration, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. The plan uses Hostinger’s hPanel rather than cPanel.
Hostinger’s newer limits matter because many older reviews are now inaccurate. New Premium purchases should not be described as including 100 websites or 100 GB of storage. The newer plan information also lists two included mailboxes for the initial period, not unlimited email. Current comparisons list daily backups, but check the exact backup retention shown for your purchase.
Choose it if: you want a simple control panel, several small websites, migration help, and a reasonable renewal rate.
Watch for: the four-year prepayment and the much smaller current limits than older Hostinger articles claim.
2. Namecheap: best for a predictable low renewal price
Namecheap Stellar is the best fit when keeping the long-term bill low matters more than having the most modern hosting platform. Its advertised price is $2.28 per month, while Namecheap’s current plan table lists the regular price as $5.88 per month or $55.88 per year.
Stellar includes 20 GB of SSD storage, three hosted domains, unmetered bandwidth, 50 mailboxes, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. The current shared-hosting lineup is Stellar, Stellar Plus, and Stellar Business. Older articles that recommend Value, Professional, Ultimate, or Business SSD are referring to superseded plan names.
Namecheap’s low regular price makes it easier to budget after the promotion expires. “Unmetered” bandwidth still does not remove shared-server CPU, memory, inode, database, or fair-use restrictions.
Choose it if: you need inexpensive hosting for a few modest sites and want a lower renewal shock.

3. DreamHost: best for WordPress beginners
DreamHost’s Web Hosting Launch plan is a beginner-friendly option with generous website and storage allowances. The current advertised price is $2.89 per month for the first year, or roughly $34.68 before taxes and add-ons. It renews at $10.99 per month.
Launch includes 25 websites, 25 GB of NVMe storage, unmetered bandwidth, daily automated backups, free SSL, a free domain for one year, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. The free domain is normally only free for the first registration year; renewal is charged at the standard domain rate.
One easily missed cost is email. DreamHost includes email free for the first three months on the current web-hosting offer, after which a paid email plan is automatically added. Remove or change that service if you do not need hosted mail.

- The available storage capacity may vary.
DreamHost’s old Shared Starter and Shared Unlimited plans are no longer available to new customers. New buyers should compare Web Hosting Launch, Growth, and Scale instead.
Choose it if: you are starting a WordPress site and value daily backups and a large website allowance.
Watch for: the post-trial email charge and the difference between the current Web Hosting plans and discontinued shared plans.
4. IONOS: cheapest-looking first-year promotion
IONOS is attractive when your immediate priority is minimizing the first-year price. Its current U.S. offers show Essential at $4 per month for a one-year term, Starter at $6, Plus at $1, and Ultimate at $10. Plus renews at $14 per month and advertises 350 GB of NVMe storage, five email addresses, malware scanning, and CDN features.

IONOS advertises a 99.99% uptime guarantee and a 30-day money-back guarantee. That guarantee is a provider commitment, not an independently measured uptime result.
Choose it if: you are comfortable checking a detailed promotional offer and want a large amount of advertised storage.
Watch for: the renewal jump, plan-specific email limits, and the exact amount charged upfront.

5. SiteGround: best support, not best long-term price
SiteGround StartUp is a good choice for users who value managed WordPress tools and support more than the lowest renewal bill. The introductory price is $2.99 per month when prepaid for 12 months, approximately $35.88 before taxes. It renews at $17.99 per month.
StartUp supports one website, about 10,000 monthly visits, 10 GB of storage, unmetered data transfer, a free domain, SSL, CDN, backups, email, and 24/7 support. SiteGround shared plans renew annually.
Its unmetered traffic claim does not mean unlimited server capacity. SiteGround still applies resource limits, including limits that can affect CPU usage, memory, PHP workers, and database activity. The plan is also storage-constrained compared with several competitors.
Choose it if: you run one WordPress site and want hands-on managed hosting features.

- The available storage capacity may vary.
Watch for: the $17.99 renewal price. SiteGround is not a cheap long-term option simply because its introductory rate is low.
6. GreenGeeks: best for eco-conscious small sites
GreenGeeks Lite combines a modest entry price with an environmental positioning that appeals to some small-site owners. Lite costs $2.95 per month when prepaid for 12 months, approximately $35.40 upfront, and renews at $13.95 per month. It supports one website, 25 GB of web space, and unmetered traffic.
The plan includes a 30-day money-back guarantee. GreenGeeks also offers Pro at $4.95 per month for the introductory term, supporting unlimited websites and 50 GB of storage; Pro renews at $18.95 per month.
Choose it if: one small website fits within 25 GB and the provider’s sustainability focus is important to you.

7. HostGator: best cheap cPanel option with phone support
HostGator Hatchling is worth considering if you specifically want familiar cPanel-style hosting and phone support. It is advertised from $2.75 per month and renews at $6.95 per month. The exact introductory total depends on the term selected.
Hatchling supports one domain and includes free SSL, a free domain registration on qualifying terms, WordPress and cPanel migration, and unmetered bandwidth. HostGator’s current documentation says the Baby plan supports up to 20 websites.
The free domain is generally a first-year registration promotion. HostGator states that the domain renews at the regular annual rate afterward. Also, unmetered bandwidth does not protect an account from resource exhaustion; HostGator documents temporary speed reductions when CPU resources are exceeded.

8. Bluehost: best guided route into WordPress
Bluehost remains a reasonable starting point for someone who wants guided WordPress setup, but its current product lineup requires extra price checking. The platform includes WordPress hosting, free SSL, migration tools, malware scanning, AI site-creation tools, and live support.
Older shared-plan documentation lists Basic as one website with 50 GB of SSD storage and unmetered bandwidth. Bluehost is transitioning among shared, WordPress, commerce, VPS, and AI-oriented product pages, so the exact current plan name, promotional price, renewal rate, storage, backup policy, and control panel should be confirmed at checkout.

Choose it if: you want a guided first WordPress installation and do not mind comparing the current product pages carefully.
Watch for: relying on an old Bluehost review or assuming the former Basic plan details still describe the product you are buying.
9. InMotion Hosting: best storage allowance for a small business
InMotion Hosting Core stands out for storage and migration support. Current pricing pages show Core from approximately $3.19 per month on a promotional term. The comparison lists 100 GB of NVMe storage, one website, unlimited email addresses, free migrations, and suitability for approximately 70,000 monthly visitors.
The entry plan does not include automatic off-site backups in the listed features. That omission matters for a business site: arrange a separate backup system rather than assuming the host’s snapshots are a complete disaster-recovery plan.
Choose it if: you need substantially more storage than a typical starter plan provides or are moving an existing small-business site.
Watch for: the renewal price, the promotional term, and the fact that off-site automated backups are not included on the listed entry plan.
10. Hosting.com: low introductory rate with a different control panel
Hosting.com Startup is aimed at buyers attracted by a low advertised entry price. Current comparison material lists it at $1.99 per month, renewing at $10.99 per month, with one website and 100 GB of SSD storage.
The supplied comparison says Startup uses the Enhance control panel rather than included cPanel, and that LiteSpeed performance features are reserved for higher-priced Turbo tiers. Those details should be verified directly at checkout because the comparison material itself flags them for confirmation.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check before buying cheap hosting
1. Calculate the real first payment
Multiply the advertised monthly-equivalent price by the required term. Hostinger’s $2.99 price requires 48 months, while SiteGround’s $2.99 price requires 12 months. Add taxes, domain registration, premium email, privacy services, and backup add-ons before comparing totals.
2. Compare renewal prices, not just promotions
| Provider | Introductory monthly equivalent | Renewal monthly price | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hostinger | $2.99 | $10.99 | About 3.7 times higher |
| DreamHost | $2.89 | $10.99 | About 3.8 times higher |
| SiteGround | $2.99 | $17.99 | About 6 times higher |
| GreenGeeks | $2.95 | $13.95 | About 4.7 times higher |
| HostGator | $2.75 | $6.95 | About 2.5 times higher |
| Hosting.com | $1.99 | $10.99 | About 5.5 times higher |
These figures are not directly equivalent because billing terms, taxes, domains, and renewal periods differ. They do show why a low first-year price should not determine the ranking by itself.

3. Check the resource limits behind “unlimited”
Unlimited or unmetered bandwidth generally means the provider does not charge by a fixed data-transfer quota under normal use. It does not mean unlimited CPU, RAM, files, database size, simultaneous visitors, PHP workers, or email sending. A traffic spike can still trigger throttling, a support warning, or an upgrade request.
4. Verify backups and retention
Daily backups are useful only if they are retained long enough and can be restored easily. Confirm whether backups are daily or weekly, how many copies are retained, whether restoration costs extra, and whether backups are stored off-site. InMotion’s listed Core plan, for example, does not include automatic off-site backups.
5. Treat free domains and email as promotions
A free domain normally means the first registration year only. Email may be limited by mailbox count or may become paid after a trial. Hostinger’s current basic plans list limited mailboxes, while DreamHost’s current web-hosting offer includes email for three months before adding a paid email plan.
6. Identify the control panel and upgrade route
cPanel is widely documented and familiar to many freelancers. Hostinger uses hPanel, DreamHost uses its own panel, and Hosting.com Startup is reported to use Enhance. None is automatically wrong, but switching panels can make migration and troubleshooting harder.
Also check what happens when shared hosting is no longer enough. A useful upgrade path may include a larger shared tier, managed WordPress hosting, cloud hosting, VPS, or a dedicated server. “Unlimited” entry plans are not a substitute for a documented resource ceiling.
Which cheap host should you choose?
- Choose Hostinger for the best general balance of price, features, migration, and beginner usability.
- Choose Namecheap if the regular renewal price is your main concern.
- Choose DreamHost for a WordPress beginner who wants daily backups and room for multiple sites.
- Choose IONOS if you understand the promotional term and want the lowest immediate price.
- Choose SiteGround for managed WordPress support, not for the lowest long-term cost.
- Choose GreenGeeks for a small site where the eco-conscious positioning matters.
- Choose HostGator for basic cPanel hosting and phone support.
- Choose Bluehost for a guided WordPress setup, after confirming the current product details.
- Choose InMotion Hosting if storage and migration help matter more than included backups.
- Choose Hosting.com only after confirming the Enhance panel and which performance features are included.
FAQ
What is the cheapest web hosting provider in 2026?
IONOS Plus has the lowest advertised introductory price at $1 per month, while Hosting.com Startup is listed at $1.99 and Namecheap Stellar at $2.28. The cheapest headline price is not necessarily the cheapest overall: compare the required prepayment, renewal rate, email, backups, control panel, and resource limits.
Which cheap web host is best for beginners?
Hostinger Premium is the best general beginner choice in this comparison because it combines a straightforward hPanel dashboard, free SSL, migration, multiple websites, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. DreamHost is another strong option for a beginner focused specifically on WordPress.
Is cheap web hosting safe for a business website?
It can be suitable for a small business website, provided the plan includes SSL, reliable backups, malware protection where needed, and enough CPU, memory, storage, and email capacity. Do not rely on the host alone for backups; keep an independent copy of the site and database.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDo cheap hosting plans include a free domain and email?
Often, but usually with restrictions. A free domain generally applies only to the first registration year. Email may have mailbox limits or become paid after a trial. DreamHost’s current plan information, for example, includes email free for three months, while Hostinger’s newer basic plans limit included mailboxes.
How long should I prepay for web hosting?
Prepay for a longer term only if you have checked the renewal price, refund rules, and likely lifespan of the project. A 48-month Hostinger term lowers the monthly equivalent but requires a much larger upfront payment than a 12-month plan.
The Bottom Line
Hostinger is the best cheap web host for most beginners in 2026. Namecheap is more attractive for buyers focused on predictable renewal pricing, while DreamHost offers a strong WordPress-oriented alternative. Before purchasing any provider, calculate the total due today and the renewal bill, then verify email, backups, domain renewal, control panel, and resource limits on the final order page.
