2026 affordable small SUVs: starting-price snapshot
Cars.com’s July 2026 roundup lists entry-trim prices for the first nine vehicles below. Consumer Reports’ 2026 Buying Guide search result supplies the Crosstrek figure. The sources may use different fee assumptions, so these figures are useful for narrowing choices—not for comparing final purchase costs without checking the same fee basis.

What to know about each SUV
Hyundai Venue
The Venue SE is the least expensive entry in this shortlist at $22,150 in Cars.com’s July 2026 snapshot. It does not offer all-wheel drive (AWD), according to Cars.com’s roundup, so it is worth considering if front-wheel drive meets your needs and keeping the entry price low is a priority.

Chevrolet Trax
General Motors lists the 2026 Trax starting at $23,495 and says all five trims have MSRPs below $30,000. GM specifies front-wheel drive, an ECOTEC 1.2-liter turbo engine and a six-speed automatic. It is not an AWD choice. Those are manufacturer specifications, not a comparative assessment of acceleration or fuel economy.
Nissan Kicks
The Kicks S is listed at $24,275. In a June 2025 Associated Press republication of Edmunds coverage, the redesigned 2025 Kicks was described as offering optional AWD for the first time, alongside tepid acceleration and disappointing real-world fuel economy. That is a dated editorial observation about the 2025 model, not a 2026 instrumented comparison; check current-year availability and specifications before deciding.

Chevrolet Trailblazer
Cars.com lists the Trailblazer LS at $25,095. Its roundup indicates that most listed models other than the Venue, Trax and Envista offer AWD, but buyers should confirm availability and pricing for the exact 2026 trim rather than assume it is standard.
Kia Seltos
The Seltos LX is listed at $25,285. The Cars.com snapshot places it among the options with AWD availability, but the price of the listed trim should not be read as an AWD-equipped price unless the configuration is confirmed.

Buick Envista
The Envista Preferred is listed at $26,495 and does not offer AWD, according to Cars.com. Edmunds’ review notes a useful packaging trade-off: room for passengers in both rows, but reduced cargo volume from the sloping roof. Try the rear seat and load the items you carry most often before choosing it over a more upright alternative.
Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
Cars.com lists the Outlander Sport 2.0 S at $26,790. Its roundup identifies it among the models with AWD availability. Verify whether the specific trim and configuration you want includes AWD and what it adds to the price.
Rank #4

- Awesome Gift: The car toy is perfect for birthdays, Christmas gifts, party and cake decorations. It can be a valuable reward gift for kids. It is also good for model car collectors.
Hyundai Kona
The Kona SE is listed at $27,100. AWD is available in the model list covered by Cars.com, but the entry price alone does not establish the cost or equipment of an AWD configuration.
Mazda CX-30
Cars.com lists the CX-30 2.5 S at $27,870, while Mazda’s official 2026 page gives a starting MSRP of $26,375 before destination and other fees. Mazda specifies a $1,495 destination charge, or $1,540 in Alaska, and an EPA-estimated 27 mpg combined for the base model. The difference between the two published price figures illustrates why you should compare fee assumptions rather than treating every starting price as directly equivalent.

Subaru Crosstrek

Build an apples-to-apples price
Compare the same model year and equipment level, then add destination, taxes, dealer fees and accessories. Ask the dealer to show any incentive separately so you can see the price before and after eligibility-based discounts. A roundup starting price is a research starting point, not a live local offer.
Decide whether you need AWD
Cars.com identifies the Venue, Trax and Envista as not offering AWD among the models in its list. For models where AWD is available, Cars.com estimates it commonly adds roughly $1,500–$2,000; the actual premium depends on model, trim and configuration. Confirm the current-year details with the manufacturer or dealer.
Check fit and equipment in person
- Have rear-seat passengers sit in the vehicle, especially if adults or child seats will use that row regularly.
- Bring a stroller, suitcase or other everyday cargo to test the cargo area; a sloping roof can reduce usable space.
- Check the manufacturer’s model-year specification page for the exact trim’s safety and convenience equipment. A low base price does not establish that a feature you need is standard.
- Drive the specific configuration you plan to buy. The available evidence does not provide a single comparable test of all 10 vehicles.
What this shortlist can—and can’t—tell you
The price references show several non-Honda, non-Toyota choices below or near a $30,000 starting-price budget. They do not establish a market-wide ranking, total ownership cost, reliability comparison or equivalent safety results. General Motors also reported that Chevrolet and Buick sold nearly 700,000 vehicles with starting MSRPs below $30,000 in 2025; that corporate figure covers vehicle types across those brands and is not a small-SUV sales count.
