In January 2025, ten electric vehicles had reported lease offers with advertised payments below $300 per month. But that headline price did not tell the whole cost: several offers required thousands of dollars at signing, pushing their source-calculated effective monthly rates above $300. These are historical U.S. examples—not deals confirmed to be available in October 2026.

How to compare the January 2025 lease offers

Electrek published its roundup on January 25, 2025, saying its figures were updated January 24 and sourced from CarsDirect. The payments below are the advertised monthly amounts, not a complete estimate of what every lessee would pay. Electrek also reported an “effective monthly” figure that accounts for the stated due-at-signing amount over the lease term. Taxes, fees, eligibility, and other contract details may affect a local quote.

For a simple comparison, the effective figure is calculated as (advertised monthly payment × lease months + due at signing) ÷ lease months. It is a useful way to see how upfront cash changes the apparent price, but it is not a full lease-cost calculation if other charges are excluded.

Ten EV lease examples reported for January 2025

Vehicle and model year Advertised payment Term Due at signing Effective monthly rate reported
2025 Kia Niro EV $149/month 24 months $3,999 $315/month
2024 Kia EV6 $159/month 24 months $3,849 $319/month
2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 $189/month 24 months $3,999 $355/month
2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6 $159/month 24 months $3,999 $326/month
2024 Volkswagen ID.4 $149/month 24 months $999 $190/month
2024 Fiat 500e $211/month 42 months $211 $216/month
2024 Toyota bZ4X $219/month 39 months $2,999 $296/month
2024 Honda Prologue EX FWD $229/month 36 months $1,299 $265/month
2024 Subaru Solterra $279/month 36 months $279 $296/month
2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV $299/month 24 months $3,169 $431/month

Source for all offers and effective rates: Electrek’s January 2025 roundup, which attributes the deal data to CarsDirect. The Prologue and Solterra figures appeared in the article’s prose rather than its main table.

Why the advertised payment can be misleading

The difference between the advertised and effective figures is substantial for some offers. The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 was listed at $189 a month, but its $3,999 due at signing raised the reported effective rate to $355 a month. The Chevrolet Equinox EV’s $299 advertised payment became $431 effective with $3,169 due up front.

By contrast, the ID.4 example paired a $149 monthly payment with $999 due at signing, for a reported effective rate of $190. This makes upfront cash and lease length essential comparison points—not minor details beneath the monthly price.

Effective monthly rates in the roundup do not establish that every tax, fee, or lease charge is included. Tesla’s current general leasing guidance, for example, says its estimated monthly payment excludes taxes and fees. Get a written quote that spells out the amount due at signing, recurring payment, mileage allowance, taxes, fees, and any other required charges before comparing offers.

Geography and eligibility can change the offer

The listed $229 Prologue offer was for the EX front-wheel-drive trim in California and other zero-emission-vehicle states. Electrek reported that offers in other areas started at $249. This is a concrete reason not to assume a national roundup price applies to every ZIP code. Inventory, trim, customer eligibility, and dealer terms can also affect what a shopper is offered.

Charging considerations for a leased EV

Home charging can make regular EV use more convenient, but a home charger is not a universal requirement for a lease. Nissan describes home charging as its most convenient ARIYA option and says drivers can access the Nissan Energy Charge Network through the MyNISSAN app. That guidance is general charging context, not confirmation of January 2025 lease pricing or a guarantee that a particular home setup will work for every driver. See Nissan’s 2025 ARIYA page.

Electrek also reported a historical 2025 IONIQ 5 promotion offering buyers or lessees of a 2025 model either a free ChargePoint Level 2 home charger or a $400 charging credit. That was a past promotion; the report does not establish current eligibility or availability. Details were reported in Electrek’s January 2025 article.

What to verify before signing a lease

  1. Ask for the complete written quote. Confirm the due-at-signing total and recurring payment, with taxes and fees identified rather than assumed.
  2. Check the exact vehicle. Verify model year, trim, drivetrain, and whether the advertised vehicle is available at a nearby dealer.
  3. Review the lease conditions. Confirm the term, annual mileage allowance, and any eligibility requirements or charges stated in the contract.
  4. Compare total cash outlay. Consider the upfront amount and every monthly payment over the full term, not just the headline monthly number.
  5. Confirm the offer is still valid locally. These examples describe January 2025 reporting, not current offers. Tesla’s leasing tool can estimate payments for Model 3 and Model Y based on down payment, term, and annual mileage, but Tesla says estimates exclude taxes and fees; it does not verify the January 2025 Tesla figures. See Tesla’s leasing guidance.
