Among the 100 performers on The Numbers’ leading-role chart, Danai Gurira has the highest calculated average worldwide box office per listed film: about $1.433 billion. That is a film-gross average—not an actor’s salary, profit, or take-home pay. The ranking below divides each performer’s chart total by the listed number of movies; The Numbers ranks the chart by career total, not by this average.
How the per-film ranking was calculated
The Numbers’ Top 100 Stars in Leading Roles at the Worldwide Box Office lists worldwide box-office totals and movie counts for its top 100 leading-role performers. The figures below divide each displayed total by that performer’s listed movie count, then round the result to the nearest million. The Numbers chart was accessed on 7 October 2026; the page does not state a publication date.
This is a calculation from the chart, not an official ranking published by The Numbers. Its underlying totals are nominal worldwide grosses. The chart’s scope is leading roles, not every appearance in a film.
10 actors with the highest calculated average gross per film
| Calculated rank | Actor | Average per listed film | Chart total | Listed movies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Danai Gurira | About $1.433 billion | $7,167,441,185 | 5 |
| 2 | Pom Klementieff | About $1.115 billion | $6,691,990,475 | 6 |
| 3 | Benedict Wong | About $987 million | $6,909,302,095 | 7 |
| 4 | Tom Holland | About $803 million | $14,454,077,076 | 18 |
| 5 | Jon Favreau | About $745 million | $4,472,232,838 | 6 |
| 6 | Chadwick Boseman | About $707 million | $7,783,538,525 | 11 |
| 7 | Letitia Wright | About $593 million | $7,709,894,947 | 13 |
| 8 | Emma Watson | About $581 million | $9,290,607,605 | 16 |
| 9 | Evangeline Lilly | About $568 million | $4,545,092,866 | 8 |
| 10 | Chris Pratt | About $550 million | $15,410,978,683 | 28 |
These averages are especially sensitive to a few high-grossing films for performers with smaller listed samples: Gurira’s total covers five movies, while Klementieff’s and Favreau’s cover six each. A single franchise or ensemble hit can shift a short-sample average substantially.

What these box-office averages do—and do not—measure
They are not actor earnings
A film’s worldwide box-office gross is the money recorded at theaters, not the amount paid to its cast. The average does not reveal an actor’s salary, bonuses, profit participation, representation fees, taxes, or personal income.
Ensemble films make actor totals overlap
The Numbers says: “Box office is counted in full for every leading performer, so the same film contributes to more than one person’s total.” A shared ensemble hit therefore contributes its full gross to each credited leading performer’s chart total. The actors’ totals cannot be added together as if they represented distinct box-office revenue, and the method does not establish that any one performer caused a film’s success.

Film counts depend on the role rule
The chart counts leading-role films. Cameos, supporting roles, and voice performances may be treated differently in other lists. A secondary reference, Wikipedia’s list of highest-grossing actors, distinguishes lead-role from all-role rankings; those methods and update dates are not interchangeable with this calculation.
Nominal grosses are not adjusted for inflation
These are unadjusted dollar grosses, not ticket-admission counts or inflation-adjusted comparisons. As a secondary list notes, nominal-gross rankings can favor later performers because ticket prices have risen over time. This table should not be read as a comparison of the number of tickets sold across eras.

Why career-total rankings give a different answer
The Numbers chart orders performers by cumulative worldwide gross, so it rewards both high-grossing films and a larger number of listed films. Its first ten by total gross are Zoe Saldaña, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey, Jr., Tom Holland, Tom Cruise, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hanks, and Vin Diesel. That is not the same order as the per-film calculation above: Gurira leads the average among the chart’s 100 names despite having five listed movies, while Jackson is among the highest in career total.
For a separately dated total, Guinness World Records reports Samuel L. Jackson’s leading-role films grossed $14,613,700,731 as of 26 January 2026, based on 57 movies and attributed to The Numbers. Guinness notes that records can change daily and publication may not be immediate, so this dated figure should not be treated as a live total.
