不良品をRMAするには、まず使用を続けて安全か判断し、購入証明と製品情報をそろえて購入店またはメーカーの公式窓口に連絡します。RMA番号や返送指示が必要な場合は、番号・宛先・期限・送料負担・梱包条件を書面で確認するまで発送しないでください。手順は購入先や製品、保証条件によって異なります。
RMAとは何か、まず誰に連絡するか
RMAは、販売者やメーカーが返品・修理・交換を受け付けるために指定する承認や手続きです。RMA番号が必要な窓口もありますが、RMAが世界共通の法定手続きというわけではありません。販売経路、製品、購入地域によってルールが違います。

日本で製品の品質に問題がある場合は、まず売買契約の相手である販売店に相談するのが基本です。メーカー保証はメーカーが自主的に設けるサービスで、販売店の責任とは別です。保証期間や対象、送料負担などは保証条件によって異なります。国民生活センターの案内で基本的な違いを確認できます。
購入店から始めるケース
販売店の返品・初期不良対応期間内なら、店舗が修理・交換・返金の相談を受け付けることがあります。期間を過ぎていても、販売店に連絡して、販売店とメーカーのどちらが申請を受け付けるのか確認してください。販売店で購入した製品は先に販売店へ相談するよう案内するメーカーもあります。

メーカー窓口へ連絡するケース
販売店からメーカーへ案内された場合や、メーカー保証の申請先が明確な場合は、その公式窓口の手順を確認します。StarTech.comはRMAフォームと購入証明を案内し、同社が発行したRMA番号の有効期間を30日としています。これは同社の条件の例であり、他社にも共通する期限ではありません。
不良品を送る前に準備するもの
窓口に連絡する前に、次の情報をまとめておくと、症状や申請先を伝えやすくなります。

安全にできる場合は、症状の写真や動画も保存します。危険な状態を再現するために製品を再び動かすのは避けてください。購入証明は保証申請で求められることがあり、StarTech.comもRMA申請に購入証明を案内しています。

安全上の問題が疑われるときは使用を止める
過熱、煙、異臭、感電の疑い、破損などがあれば、通常の返送手続きより先に安全を確保します。安全にできる範囲で電源を切り、使用を中止して、メーカーの相談窓口や消費生活センターに連絡してください。経済産業省は、製品の不具合に気づいたらメーカーなどへ連絡するよう案内しています。

欠陥によるけがや、製品以外の財産への被害が起きた場合は、通常のRMAだけで済ませず、事故の記録と安全確保を優先して関係機関に相談してください。消費者庁によれば、PL法が扱うのは製造物の欠陥による生命・身体または他の財産への損害で、製品自体が壊れただけの場合は同法による賠償請求の対象ではありません。重大製品事故を知った製造・輸入事業者には、消費者庁への報告義務があり、同庁の案内では報告期限は10日です。
購入店またはメーカーへの連絡手順
- 購入先と申請窓口を確かめる。レシートや注文履歴で購入先を確認し、販売店の返品期間内か、メーカー保証の窓口がどこかを調べます。
- 症状と希望を伝える。購入日、注文番号、製品情報、不具合の内容と発生時期、試した対処を簡潔に説明し、修理・交換・返金のどれを相談したいか伝えます。
- 返送の要否とRMA番号を確認する。製品を送る必要があるか、RMA番号や申請フォームが必要か、送付先はどこかを確認します。窓口の指示を受ける前に発送しないでください。
- 費用と条件を確認する。送料、保険、診断費、梱包、発送期限、同梱品、返金や交換の扱いを確認します。
- 指示に従って発送し、記録を残す。指定された方法で梱包し、発送前の状態、梱包内容、発送控え、追跡番号を保存します。
RMA承認後に確認する返送条件
RMA番号や書面の返送指示を受け取ったら、発送前に必要事項を確認します。電話だけで案内された場合も、可能ならメールやサポート画面など記録が残る形で条件を確かめてください。

送料負担は一律ではありません。国民生活センターはメーカー保証で送料や出張費が購入者負担となる場合があると説明しています。一方、メーカーによっては前払いの返送ラベルを用意する場合もあります。たとえばStarTech.comはRMAフォームと購入証明を案内し、Yamato USAは同社への返品にRMAを求めています。各社のルールは異なるため、個別の指示を優先してください。

修理・交換・返金のどれを求めるか
希望する解決方法を伝えたうえで、実際に選べる対応を窓口に確認します。判断に関わるのは、販売店かメーカーか、返品期間や保証期間内か、不具合が製品の品質問題か誤使用・事故によるものか、送料や診断費、同一商品の在庫や修理可能性、購入地域の消費者法などです。
日本のメーカー保証では、保証期間中でも落下や水濡れなど保証条件外と判断されれば、有償修理となる場合があります。店頭購入の場合も、単に期待した品質と違うという理由だけで返品できるとは限りません。初期不良や通常備わるべき品質の欠如、販売時の虚偽説明などは別途相談できる可能性があるため、商品とレシートを持って購入店に相談してください。
製品に元から品質上の問題があった場合、国民生活センターは基本的に販売店が責任を負い、無償修理などを請求できると説明しています。ただし、購入から時間がたつほど、問題が当初からあったことを示すのが難しくなる場合があります。同センターの案内は、品質不適合を知った時から原則1年以内に販売店へ通知する必要があるとの民法566条の注記も掲載しています。個別の事情で適用は異なり得るため、この説明だけで法的な結論を決めず、必要なら消費生活センターなどに相談してください。
発送後の記録と、解決しない場合の相談先
受付番号、担当窓口とのやり取り、発送日、追跡番号をひとまとめに保存します。修理品や交換品が届いたら、到着時の損傷と同じ症状が残っていないかを確認し、解決していない場合は元の受付番号を添えて連絡してください。返金に合意した場合は、返金額と反映時期も記録します。
販売店との話し合いが進まない場合は、消費者ホットライン188に電話すると、地域の消費生活センターなどにつないでもらえます。製品の不具合や返品については、商品と購入証明、窓口とのやり取りの記録を手元に用意して相談してください。
