In a July 2024 interview with Rowan Cheung, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg criticized Apple’s restrictions on Meta and imagined creators training AI agents on their social-media information, values and objectives. He described a possible future—not a product shown to be available at the time—in which fans could interact with a creator’s AI counterpart.
What Zuckerberg said about Apple
Zuckerberg said Apple’s restrictions stopped Meta from shipping features that Meta believed would benefit its community. He described that experience as “a little bit soul crushing” when a company’s features cannot ship because, in his view, another company wants to limit competition.

That is Zuckerberg’s characterization of the dispute, not an independently established account of Apple’s motives. The interview coverage identifies Rowan Cheung as the interviewer and says the conversation coincided with a Meta Llama release.
How the creator AI agent might work
Zuckerberg pictured creators bringing information from their social-media accounts into AI systems and training them to reflect their values, objectives and intentions. Fans might then interact with an agent modeled on the creator. He called the result “almost like this artistic artifact that creators create that people can kind of interact with in different ways.”

The idea addresses a practical tension: creators may want to engage with more fans than their available time permits. An agent could potentially provide more opportunities for interaction, but the interview reports a vision, not evidence that this full creator-agent concept was a functioning, generally available product.
The trade-off for creators and their audiences
Automating some fan interactions could extend a creator’s reach, but the interaction would no longer necessarily come directly from the creator. TechCrunch’s coverage raised concerns about AI-generated errors and hallucinations, audience trust, and whether delegating conversations could weaken the personal connection that draws fans to a creator.
Rank #2
- Reach: An agent could make some form of interaction possible when the creator is unavailable.
- Reliability: Generated answers can be wrong or misleading, especially if fans treat the agent as the creator’s own words.
- Trust: Clear disclosure that a fan is talking to AI would matter to how audiences understand the exchange.
- Authenticity: More access may not feel more personal if the creator’s voice and judgment are being simulated.
For creators considering such a system, these are questions to weigh rather than demonstrated outcomes of a released product. The interview did not establish a specific agent’s capabilities, safeguards, cost or availability.
