A decision about his role or future could affect squad costs, but no published source gives his wages, a proposed transfer fee or a confirmed money-saving plan.
What is known about Mitchell’s contract?
Charlton announced in October 2024 that Mitchell had signed a long-term deal through 2027, with a club option for an additional year. The club’s end-of-season 2025/26 squad update subsequently listed him among players remaining under contract. The update separately identified players with expiring deals and said their futures were being discussed; it did not say Mitchell was being sold, released or loaned.
Transfermarkt lists his contract expiry as 30 June 2027 and records loans to St Johnstone and Hibernian during 2025/26. That is secondary confirmation; Charlton’s own announcements are the stronger evidence for the terms it disclosed.
Could a decision save Charlton money?
Potentially, but the public information does not establish that it would. A permanent transfer might bring in a fee, while a loan might shift some of a player’s wages if the clubs agree to that arrangement. Retaining him would preserve Charlton’s control of a player whose announced deal runs through 2027, with a further club option. These are general possibilities, not reported offers or plans for Mitchell.

Neither Charlton’s squad update nor its contract announcement discloses Mitchell’s wages, any transfer fee under consideration, or the club’s financial reasoning. Without those figures and terms, the size—or even the existence—of a saving cannot be calculated.

What does the earlier contract decision tell us?
When Charlton announced Mitchell’s new deal in October 2024, it said he had made 13 first-team appearances. The BBC reported that he had made 29 appearances and scored twice for Colchester United during a loan in 2023/24. Those are historical figures, not a current assessment of his performance or place in the squad.
At the time of the deal, manager Nathan Jones said Mitchell had “really impressed me since day one of pre-season”. The BBC also reported Jones saying the club had opportunities to send him out on loan but believed his development was better served at Charlton. Those comments explain the 2024 decision; they do not establish the club’s plans for summer 2026.

Does Charlton’s summer recruitment explain a decision?
Charlton announced Timothy Ouma’s season-long loan with an option to buy on 10 August 2026, calling him the club’s seventh summer signing and describing him as a midfielder. The announcement does not connect Ouma’s arrival to Mitchell, so it is not evidence that he is a replacement or that a financial decision about Mitchell prompted the signing.
