YouTube TV’s main plan is listed at $82.99 per month before tax. The $10 increase that took it from $72.99 to $82.99 was announced on December 12, 2024—not recently—and reached most existing subscribers beginning January 13, 2025. At the current listed rate, a year of the base plan costs $995.88 before tax, add-ons, or discounts.

When did YouTube TV’s price rise to $82.99?

YouTube announced the increase on December 12, 2024, raising its main plan from $72.99 to $82.99 per month. New customers were charged the new rate immediately; most existing customers began seeing it on or after January 13, 2025. The change added $10 a month, or $120 over a year, before tax. The Verge reported the announcement and timing.

The $82.99 figure remains the standard main-plan price shown in YouTube TV’s official plan and billing information. It is a recurring subscription price, not necessarily the amount charged to your card: applicable taxes and optional services can raise the bill.

What does the $82.99 main plan include?

YouTube TV advertises more than 100 channels, unlimited cloud DVR storage, up to six household accounts, and three simultaneous streams. The plan has no annual contract and does not require rented TV equipment or an installation appointment. Sports features such as Multiview and Key Plays are available where supported. See the official plan page for the current lineup and feature details.

  • TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
  • Channels: More than 100, including local stations where available. The lineup is not identical everywhere; enter your ZIP code on YouTube TV’s site to check local availability and channels in your market.
  • DVR: Unlimited cloud DVR storage does not mean every program is guaranteed to remain available, nor does it remove other program or recording restrictions.
  • Accounts and streams: Up to six accounts are for a household under YouTube TV’s location rules. That is separate from the three-stream simultaneous limit; it is not a promise that six unrelated households can share one subscription. Check the current household and location rules before relying on account sharing.
  • Internet: The service streams over an internet connection. Include the cost of broadband in your comparison if you would otherwise bundle television and internet through a cable provider.

What can make the bill higher than $82.99?

The advertised price is for the main plan, not an all-in package covering every channel, sports product, and feature. Premium networks and services such as HBO Max, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, and STARZ, the 4K Plus add-on, and NFL Sunday Ticket or other separately priced sports products can cost extra. YouTube TV’s 4K Plus information describes that as an add-on. Taxes may also apply, depending on the subscriber’s location and account. Promotions can lower an initial bill, but the recurring price and offer end date should be checked at checkout.

For a useful estimate, calculate base plan + taxes + required add-ons or sports packages − discounts. The annual base-plan cost at $82.99 per month is $995.88 before tax; it does not include any of those extras.

Why did YouTube TV raise the price?

YouTube attributed the increase to rising content costs and continued investment in service quality, according to The Verge’s December 2024 report. Live-TV distributors pay networks for programming rights, and negotiations or disputes can affect both channel availability and costs. The Verge also placed the increase in the context of earlier disputes involving Disney and NBCUniversal and changes to YouTube TV’s channel bundle, including the loss of some regional sports networks.

That context does not establish that any one dispute caused the full $10 increase. YouTube did not provide an itemized breakdown assigning the increase to particular networks or expenses.

How does $82.99 compare with YouTube TV’s earlier prices?

YouTube TV launched at roughly $35 per month and subsequently moved through prices of $40, $50, $64.99, $72.99, and $82.99, according to The Verge and Gigazine. The current listed price is more than twice the launch price. That comparison tracks the subscription price, not equivalent value over time: channels and features have changed, as has the availability of sports networks.

Is YouTube TV worth nearly $1,000 a year?

There is no universal answer: the value depends on how many channels your household watches and what alternatives would cost for the same needs.

It may be a better fit if your household

  • Regularly watches several broadcast and cable channels, including local news or live programming.
  • Follows live sports and will use the included DVR or supported sports-viewing features.
  • Has several household viewers who would otherwise need separate services, while staying within the account and stream rules.
  • Wants a broad live-TV bundle and finds its total cost preferable to a comparable cable package after equipment, fees, and promotional pricing are considered.

It may be poor value if your household

  • Watches only a few programs or mostly uses on-demand services.
  • Keeps the subscription mainly for one league or a handful of games.
  • Does not need local channels, live news, or a broad cable-channel lineup.
  • Already pays for other streaming services but rarely watches YouTube TV.

Sports viewers should check the exact league and channels they need, local availability, and any blackout rules before deciding. A large channel count does not guarantee the availability of a particular regional sports network or every game.

Option What to weigh
YouTube TV Sports Plan Officially listed at $64.99 per month for 30-plus channels and local channels. It is a distinct, narrower plan—not a like-for-like replacement for the main plan’s 100-plus-channel bundle. Check the official plan page for the current lineup.
Hulu + Live TV A direct full-bundle alternative, particularly worth comparing if your household uses Hulu, Disney+, or ESPN-related content. Check the current price, package structure, advertising, DVR rules, and terms at Hulu’s official page.
Sling TV A more modular option that may suit viewers who can accept fewer channels. Combining Orange and Blue or adding sports packages can change the total; check local-channel and sports availability at Sling’s official service page.
Fubo Worth assessing for specific sports, local stations, and regional networks. Compare its current channel-by-channel lineup and add-ons at Fubo’s official site.
DIRECTV STREAM May suit viewers looking for a cable-style lineup or particular sports and regional networks. Weigh package prices, add-ons, and regional availability at DIRECTV STREAM’s official page.
Cable or satellite Compare the bill after promotional rates expire, including equipment, installation, broadcast and regional sports fees, DVR charges, contract terms, and any internet bundle discount.

How to decide whether to keep, change, or cancel

  1. List what you actually watch. Note required local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC stations; sports and regional networks; news, children’s, and entertainment channels; and any must-have programs.
  2. Check your market. Enter your ZIP code on the YouTube TV plan page to see local availability. Then verify that each alternative carries your must-have channels in your area.
  3. Calculate the recurring total. Add tax, necessary add-ons, and sports products, and subtract discounts only for the months they apply. Do not compare an introductory offer with another service’s standard recurring rate.
  4. Compare the full household cost. Include broadband if it would remain a separate bill, and compare a cable bundle after its promotional period alongside equipment and service fees.
  5. Choose the smallest package that meets your needs. If sports are the main reason you subscribe, compare the Sports Plan and league-specific options; if you rarely use live channels, consider canceling rather than paying for unused access.
  6. Review the terms before changing plans. Check the account page for any promotion, billing date, add-on, or commitment attached to your subscription before downgrading, pausing, or canceling.
