YouTube TV announced four plans on February 9, 2026, then expanded its selector to include additional combinations such as Sports + Entertainment and News + Family.
The important pricing distinction is that $54.99 was the introductory price for the Sports Plan—not the regular price of every new bundle. The regular prices for the four launch plans range from $54.99 to $71.99 per month, before tax.
The four plans YouTube TV announced first
These were the four genre-focused options introduced at launch. Introductory pricing applies only to eligible new subscribers and lasts for the period shown.
| Plan | Regular price | New-user price | Introductory period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entertainment | $54.99/month | $44.99/month | First 3 months |
| Sports | $64.99/month | $54.99/month | First year |
| Sports + News | $71.99/month | $56.99/month | First 3 months |
| News + Entertainment + Family | $69.99/month | $59.99/month | First 3 months |
After an introductory period ends, the subscription moves to the plan’s regular price unless YouTube TV offers a new promotion. Taxes may also increase the amount charged.

Entertainment Plan
The Entertainment Plan is the least expensive of the four at its regular rate: $54.99 per month. Its channel mix includes major broadcast channels and entertainment networks such as FX, Hallmark, Comedy Central, Bravo, Paramount, Food Network, and HGTV.
New subscribers pay $44.99 per month for the first three months under the listed introductory offer. That saves $10 per month during the promotion, or $30 over three months, before tax.
Sports Plan
The Sports Plan costs $64.99 per month normally. Its lineup includes local channels and sports networks such as ESPN and FS1. The new-customer price is $54.99 per month for the first year.
This is where the commonly repeated “YouTube TV now costs $54 a month” claim comes from. It is incomplete: $54.99 is a promotional rate, and it applies to the Sports Plan for its first year. The standard Sports Plan price is $64.99.

There are more than four choices now
The four plans above were the launch lineup. YouTube TV’s current plan selector lists additional preset combinations, including:
- YouTube TV
- Sports
- Sports + News
- Sports + Entertainment
- Sports + Family
- Sports + News + Entertainment
- Sports + News + Family
- Sports + Entertainment + Family
- News + Entertainment

- Entertainment + Family
Depending on whether the main YouTube TV plan is counted separately, YouTube describes this as 12 genre-plan choices alongside the main plan. The practical point for shoppers is simpler: you are not limited to the original four combinations.
The standard main YouTube TV plan remains $82.99 plus tax per month and includes more than 100 channels. The genre plans are preset packages. You cannot create a completely custom subscription by selecting individual channels one at a time.

What stays included with the cheaper plans?
YouTube TV says its core service features remain available across the plan types. Those features include unlimited DVR, Multiview, family sharing, and the applicable concurrent-stream limits.
Moving to a cheaper plan therefore does not automatically mean giving up DVR or family sharing. The tradeoff is the channel lineup. If you switch to a plan that does not contain a particular network, you may lose access to programs recorded from that network.
NFL Sunday Ticket and other eligible add-ons can be paired with genre plans. However, the price of an add-on can materially change the total cost, so compare the complete monthly bill rather than the base plan alone.
How to switch plans
Existing subscribers can change plans from a web browser using this path:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Open YouTube TV.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Membership.
- Choose the desired plan.
- Follow the on-screen confirmation steps.
Plan switching is not available in the YouTube TV iOS or Android apps. Use the website instead.
If your subscription is billed through a mobile carrier, internet provider, or Google Play, you may see fewer plan choices. In that case, the billing provider controls the subscription change. YouTube says customers who want the broadest selection can cancel through the current billing platform and resubscribe directly through YouTube TV’s website. Be careful before doing that: cancellation can affect your billing schedule and add-ons.

What happens to your bill when you switch?
A plan change starts immediately. YouTube applies a credit for unused time on the old plan, charges for the new plan immediately, and makes the switch date your new monthly billing date.
That means switching near the end of a billing cycle does not simply queue the cheaper plan for the next month. Check the confirmation screen and your payment method before accepting the change.

Existing add-ons carry over when you switch, but they keep their original billing cycle. Canceling the YouTube TV plan automatically cancels its add-ons.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Watch your DVR recordings before downgrading
The most important switching risk is access to recordings. If the new plan removes a channel or genre associated with DVR recordings, those recordings can disappear from your DVR library.
YouTube says access can be restored if you upgrade again to a plan containing that genre within 21 days. That makes a downgrade risky if you have recordings you intend to watch later. Review your library first, particularly for sports, news events, or shows from networks that are not included in the new plan.
Also note that switching away from a promotional plan forfeits the promotion. A lower current price may not be a bargain if it ends a discount you were already receiving.
Best Value
Which plan is the best value?
That depends on the channels you actually watch, not the headline discount.
| If your priority is… | Start by comparing… |
|---|---|
| General entertainment | Entertainment or Entertainment + Family |
| Sports without a large news lineup | Sports |
| Sports and business or cable news | Sports + News |
| News, entertainment, and children’s programming | News + Entertainment + Family |
| Several categories at once | The relevant two- or three-genre combination |
Before subscribing, list the specific networks your household watches and check which preset includes them. A plan that is $10 cheaper is not saving money if you then need a separate streaming service to replace a missing channel.
Bottom line on the $54.99 price
YouTube TV did launch four cheaper genre-based plans, but the offer should not be summarized as “YouTube TV costs $54 a month.” The Entertainment Plan normally starts at $54.99 per month, while the Sports Plan uses $54.99 as a new-user introductory rate for its first year and then rises to $64.99.
There are now additional preset combinations beyond those four launch options. Compare the regular post-promotion price, check whether your billing provider limits your choices, and review DVR recordings before switching.
FAQ
Is YouTube TV really $54.99 per month?
$54.99 is the regular price of the Entertainment Plan and the introductory price of the Sports Plan for eligible new subscribers. The regular Sports Plan price is $64.99 per month, and other plans cost more.
How many YouTube TV genre plans are available?
YouTube TV’s current selector lists the main YouTube TV plan plus a broad lineup of genre plans and combinations, including Sports + Entertainment, News + Family, and Entertainment + Family. The original launch lineup had four plans.
Can I switch YouTube TV plans in the mobile app?
No. YouTube TV’s documented switching path is on the website: YouTube TV, Settings, Membership, select a plan, and confirm. Plan switching is not available in the YouTube TV iOS or Android apps.
Will I lose my DVR recordings if I downgrade?
You may lose access to recordings from channels that are not included in the new plan. YouTube says access can be restored by upgrading to a plan containing that genre within 21 days.
The Bottom Line
The headline is promotional, not universal: $54.99 is either the Entertainment Plan’s regular price or the Sports Plan’s temporary new-user price. YouTube TV now offers more preset genre combinations than the four announced at launch, but you should compare the full channel lineup and post-promotion cost before switching.
