YoungLA’s own account describes a small business started by two brothers who could not find fitness clothing that was both affordable and comfortable. It grew from selling on other retailers’ sites into a company with its own men’s and women’s fitness line, plus lifestyle apparel, accessories, and licensed collections. The “leading brand across the US” part of the story is harder to confirm. The sources available for this article support the origin story and the product breadth, but they do not establish sales, market share, or a national ranking.
Where the company says it started
According to YoungLA’s official “Our Story” page, the company is headquartered in Los Angeles and began as a small business run by two brothers. The founders say they wanted fitness clothing that was affordable, current, and comfortable, and that they decided to make their own brand after they could not find what they wanted in stores. The page presents customer satisfaction, distinctive designs, and premium quality at lower prices as company goals. These are the company’s own descriptions, so they should be read as stated intent rather than independently verified results. YoungLA’s “Our Story” page is the primary source for this account.
How the business moved from reselling to its own label
A 2020 founder interview, published by Insider Monkey and syndicated by Yahoo Finance, gives the most dated account of the early business. In it, the founders describe the initial need for affordable, good-quality fitness apparel and explain that they moved away from selling on other sites and began building their own men’s fitness clothing range. That interview is the best dated evidence that the brand started as a reseller before becoming a label with its own designs. The original interview is on Insider Monkey, and a syndicated copy appears on Yahoo Finance.
Who founded YoungLA: the names do not match across sources
The founder names are the one detail where the sources disagree, so it is worth being precise about each one.

| Source | Date | Names given | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Insider Monkey founder interview | October 2, 2020 | Gurmer and Robby Chopra | Dated, first-person interview with the founders |
| Yahoo Finance syndicated copy of the interview | Approximately 2020 | Gurmer and Robby Chopra | Republication of the same interview, not a separate confirmation |
| YoungLA official information page | Undated | Gurmer and Dashmeet Chopra | Current company-published page, no date given |
| Australian About Us page (seen in search results) | Undated | Garry and Robby Chopra | Regional company page, seen only as a search result |
The sources do not show whether these are alternate names, errors, or different people. Robby Chopra appears in both the dated interview and the Australian page, while Gurmer Chopra appears in the interview and the official information page. Until the company clarifies the naming, it is best to say that the brand was founded by two Chopra brothers and to name the individuals only with the source attached.
What the catalog covers today
YoungLA’s official product catalog, which changes over time, lists fitness and lifestyle categories for men and women. These include shorts, joggers, hoodies, leggings, bras, and accessories. It also lists licensed and branded collections, including Naruto Shippuden, Demon Slayer, Batman, Looney Tunes, and Gold’s Gym. The breadth of that list shows that the business now reaches beyond gym-only clothing into everyday lifestyle apparel and collaboration lines. The catalog does not show when each category or collection was introduced, so a precise timeline of expansion cannot be built from it. The live list is on YoungLA’s Collections and Products page.

Growth claims: what is and is not established
The company’s story says the business grew to a team of more than 150 people. That page gives no date for the figure, so it should not be treated as a current headcount. The sources reviewed for this article also contain no independently verified sales figures, revenue, market share, or industry ranking for YoungLA. That means the phrase “leading fitness clothing brand across the US” is a characterization, not a documented fact. A reader can accept the company’s growth story as a claim while recognizing that the evidence for scale and leadership is missing.
Claims in the company’s own words
The company’s story includes a statement of purpose: “OUR GOAL IS TO CREATE AN AFFORDABLE, YET LUXURIOUS BRAND, THE FITNESS CLOTHING INDUSTRY WILL CHANGE TO ADDRESS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION OVER MAKING A LARGE PROFIT.” It is a corporate statement, not a quotation from a named person. The story also says products are designed with customers in mind and that the team wears and tests items over time. That is a description of the company’s process and has not been verified by an outside party.

How to weigh a brand story before you buy
For a shopper, the useful distinction is between what a brand says about itself and what can be checked. The origin story, the founder interview, and the current product list are all checkable, and they are consistent with a small reseller that built its own label. Price positioning, quality claims, and size of the company are harder to confirm from outside. Compare the listed prices on the official store with the price you would pay elsewhere, and treat “affordable” and “premium” as the company’s own labels rather than independent ratings.
If you are comparing YoungLA with another fitness apparel brand, limit the comparison to dimensions that can be documented: stated price positioning, the range of product categories, how the brand sells its products, whether it does collaborations, and any independently reported scale. Comparative quality or market leadership should not be inferred from a brand’s own story.

When you read the company’s own pages, note the date on each one. Several YoungLA pages are undated, and the product catalog changes, so a current listing may not match what the company described years earlier.
Founder naming and the headcount figure are the points most worth rechecking if you later see updated company information. Those are the details most likely to change.

Last, be wary of “leading” claims in any brand profile. Ask what measure is being used, who measured it, and when. For YoungLA, those answers are not available in the sources reviewed for this article.
Bottom line on the history: the brand’s own account and the 2020 interview describe a small reseller that started its own fitness clothing line, and today’s catalog shows a wider range that includes lifestyle and licensed collections. The evidence does not support a claim of US market leadership or any specific growth figure.
