A successful change immediately reset the order’s production scheduling and delivery estimate, so customers traded their place in line for a different model or configuration. The window closed on April 20, 2024, and is not a current option.
Why Xiaomi allowed SU7 customers to change locked orders
The Xiaomi SU7 Series launched in mainland China on March 28, 2024. In its first-quarter report, Xiaomi described significant market interest and strong demand, and reported 88,063 cumulative locked-in orders as of April 30, 2024. That is a dated company figure, not a current backlog count. Xiaomi’s investor relations reports record the company’s launch-period figures and production response.
At the time, Xiaomi said production and material preparation were based on customers’ locked configurations. It warned that continued changes could disrupt production, parts supply and delivery efficiency. The short adjustment window gave eligible customers a chance to correct or revise a choice, while limiting changes once production planning was under way.
When the 2024 adjustment window ran
The one-time window opened at 09:00 on April 19, 2024, and closed at 09:00 on April 20, 2024. It applied only to orders locked by the closing time. Founder Edition orders were excluded, and customers could not change another order into a Founder Edition. These conditions were reported at the time by IT Home and other contemporaneous coverage relaying Xiaomi’s announcement.

What customers could change—and what happened afterward
Available changes
An eligible customer could switch to another available SU7 version and revise configuration choices such as exterior or interior color and wheels. Each order could be changed once during the window.
Queue position and delivery estimate
After a successful change, the order was immediately locked again. Its production schedule restarted and Xiaomi recalculated the estimated delivery date. The customer returned to the queue; the resulting delay depended on when the original order had been locked. A change therefore made sense only if the preferred model or configuration was worth potentially waiting longer.

How demand and production developed in 2024
Xiaomi’s interim report recorded 27,367 SU7 Series deliveries in the first half of 2024. The company said it began double-shift operations at its EV factory in June and carried out production-line optimization and maintenance in July to support the ramp-up. Its stated targets at the time were 100,000 deliveries by November and 120,000 for the full year; those were targets, not confirmed results or current forecasts.
On July 2, 2024, CnEVPost reported Xiaomi EV’s statement that expected delivery lead times after order lock-in had been reduced by up to five weeks. It also reported more than 10,000 deliveries in June and another planned round of production-line optimization. Those statements describe the situation reported in July 2024, not present-day delivery timing. CnEVPost’s July 2, 2024 report gives that dated update.

What buyers should take from the policy now
The April 2024 adjustment program is over. It should not be treated as a standing Xiaomi policy or as guidance for placing or editing a current SU7 order. For context, Xiaomi’s March 29, 2024 launch-period Q&A directed customers to the order area in the Xiaomi Auto app to lock a configuration, and said deposit refunds could be requested there within seven working days at that time. It also said delivery timing varied by model, configuration and color. Those were launch-period terms, not verified current conditions. Xiaomi’s website is the appropriate place to check current local ordering terms.
