The headline describes two console-and-game bundles that were reported as available on March 31, 2023: an Xbox Series X with Diablo IV, and a PS5 with God of War Ragnarök. The prices in that report are historical. They do not establish that either bundle is on sale today, and the “are live” wording should not be read as a current offer. This article explains what was reported, why that matters for a personal-finance decision, and how to check whether a bundle is worth buying now.
What the March 2023 report said
HotHardware published the original report, written by Paul Lilly, on March 31, 2023. It listed two separate offers, each pairing a current-generation console with a major game. The table below reproduces the figures and comparisons from that article only. Nothing in it reflects prices or stock in 2026.
| Bundle | Retailer named in report | Price reported (March 31, 2023) | Comparison made in the report | Current price and stock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X with Diablo IV | Best Buy | $559.99 | Described as the bundle’s regular MSRP and about $10 less than buying the console and game separately | Not established by this source |
| PS5 with God of War Ragnarök | Amazon | $509.99 | Described as $50.99 below MSRP; the stated MSRP implied by those two figures is $560.98 | Not established by this source |
Two points matter for any reader. First, both comparisons were the publisher’s own, made at the time of the report, and they were not checked against later price history. Second, the report did not say how long either offer would run, so a March 2023 “live” status tells you nothing about whether the same price exists now. The original article is available at HotHardware’s report on the Xbox Series X and PS5 bundles.
Why a three-year-old bundle price is not a deal signal
Console bundles change often. Retailers reprice hardware, end promotions, swap in different games, and sell out of specific storage configurations. A bundle that was $559.99 in one month may not exist in the next, and a later listing may carry a different console edition, a different storage size, or a download code instead of a disc. Any of these changes can make an old comparison meaningless.

The bigger risk is anchoring. “About $10 less than buying separately” sounds like a saving, but it is only a saving if the separate prices used for the comparison were correct on the day you buy. The article did not publish the separate prices it used, so that figure cannot be reproduced.
How to check a bundle before you buy it
- Find the exact product. Open the retailer’s listing and write down the console model, storage size, region, and whether the game is a disc or a digital code. A bundle name alone does not identify the product.
- Price the parts separately today. Look up the console alone and the game alone at the same retailer, on the same day. Use the retailer’s own standalone listings, not the bundle’s stated MSRP.
- Compare the total. Add the two standalone prices, then subtract the bundle price. A saving under about $10 may not justify a trade-off in storage, edition, or game format.
- Check the price history. If you use a price-tracking tool, look at the last 6 to 12 months. A price that is only low against an inflated MSRP is not a strong deal.
- Confirm the terms. Look for the offer’s end date, return policy, and whether the game is tied to a specific account or region.
A quick decision checklist
- Do you already want the console and the game? If not, a bundle is only a saving if you would have bought both anyway.
- Is the bundle’s total lower than the sum of today’s standalone prices at the same retailer?
- Is the game format (disc or code) and console storage what you actually want?
- Is the offer dated and confirmed on the retailer’s live page, not in an older article?
- Would the purchase still make sense if the bundle price rose by the amount of the claimed saving?
What this means for the headline
The Xbox and PlayStation bundles in the 2023 report are useful as an example of how bundle savings are presented, not as a current purchase opportunity. Verify any bundle against today’s retailer listing before treating it as a deal, and keep the purchase only if the total cost fits your budget without the bundle discount.
