The selection means WuKong passed GSV’s screen on business metrics: revenue scale, revenue growth, user reach, geographic diversification, and margin profile. It does not show that WuKong’s teaching produces better learning. Neither the list announcement nor the company’s release publishes WuKong’s individual score, its rank within the 150, or independent evidence of learning outcomes.
What was announced, and which edition is covered
GSV published the 2025 GSV 150 on December 12, 2024, through a PR Newswire release issued under the ASU+GSV Summit name. WuKong Education announced its inclusion on December 24, 2024, in its own release. The “2025” refers to the edition of the list, not the year the announcement was made. This article covers only that edition; later editions of the GSV 150 are not addressed here.
How GSV built the list
GSV describes the list as its annual selection of the most transformational growth companies in digital learning and skills. In its announcement of the 2025 list, GSV says it evaluated more than 2,500 companies against five dimensions:
- Revenue scale, meaning the size of the company’s revenue.
- Revenue growth, meaning how quickly that revenue is rising.
- User reach, meaning how many learners or customers the company serves.
- Geographic diversification, meaning how spread out its markets are.
- Margin profile, meaning how the company’s profitability is structured.
GSV calls its framework proprietary and does not publish the weighting or company-level scores. Every one of the five dimensions is a business measure. None of them tests whether students learn more, and the list does not claim that they do.

What the figures measure, and whose they are
The numbers attached to the 2025 list belong to different owners and cover different scopes. Keeping those scopes separate is the simplest way to avoid misreading the story.

The cohort totals describe the group as a whole. They say nothing about how much of that reach, revenue, or margin belongs to WuKong.

What WuKong says it offers
WuKong’s release describes the company’s offering in its own terms:
- Online courses in Chinese, Mathematics, and English Language Arts for students aged 3 to 18.
- Personalized learning plans, course optimization, and teacher analytics, which the company presents as part of its AI-supported model.
- Students from 118 countries and more than 400,000 families served globally, per the company’s own count.
- A 2024 Cognia School of Distinction designation and inclusion in HolonIQ’s AU&NZ EdTech Top 50 for a third consecutive year. The company reports both; they are separate from the GSV selection.
The quoted statements in context
Luben Pampoulov, Partner at GSV Ventures, said of the 2025 cohort: “The rapid rise of generative AI is fueling knowledge and creating opportunities we had not imagined before.” He added that “Effectively everyone across the 2025 GSV 150 has generative AI deeply embedded in their offering.” That is a description of the cohort as a whole, not an evaluation of any company’s product.

WuKong founder and CEO Vicky Wang said, “We are honored to be named to the 2025 GSV 150,” and that the company’s teaching and research teams, combined with AI, aim to “set a new benchmark for digital education.” Those are the company’s aspirations, not findings.
What the recognition does and does not show
The selection shows that WuKong was among the companies GSV’s five business measures picked from a field of more than 2,500. It shows that WuKong operates at a scale worth tracking in digital learning.
It does not show:
- WuKong’s revenue, growth, margins, or user reach individually. GSV published only cohort totals.
- That WuKong’s courses teach better than competitors’ courses.
- That the AI-driven teaching model improved academic performance. WuKong’s release makes this claim, but it does not include a study, sample, measurement method, or independent validation. Treat it as the company’s assertion until a published evaluation is available.
How to read similar recognitions
If you are choosing an online tutoring or learning service, a list like this is a starting point for research, not a quality check. These questions will get you further:
- Which criteria did the list use? Business measures tell you about the company’s size and finances; they do not tell you about instruction.
- Who produced the figures? Company-reported numbers and cohort totals answer different questions.
- Is there a published evaluation with a named method, sample, and date that supports the outcome claim?
- Can you test the course yourself through a trial, sample lessons, or a sample report before you pay?
For WuKong specifically, the 2025 GSV 150 confirms the company’s place in a group that GSV tracks. Whether its courses help a particular child is a question the announcement cannot answer.
