Most of the options below are sold as vouchers by individual operators, and each seller sets its own validity, refund and redemption rules. Choose the experience by the recipient’s appetite first, then check the voucher terms before you pay.
Destination Perth frames the area broadly, covering Perth City, Fremantle, Rottnest Island, the Swan Valley and surrounding areas. The guide below works through that range by what the recipient is likely to enjoy, using named operators as examples. Prices and schedules change, so confirm them on each operator’s live page before you buy.
Slow and scenic
These suit a recipient who wants a view and a comfortable pace rather than physical effort.
Scenic flights
Fly Perth sells vouchers for a 30-minute Perth, beaches and Fremantle flight, a 50-minute Perth and Rottnest scenic flight, and longer options. Its voucher page states that vouchers are not refundable and cannot be redeemed for cash. Credit toward certain other tours is available based on the amount originally paid. If the recipient may not be able to fly on a given date, that restriction matters more than the headline price.
#1 Best Overall
River and harbour cruises
Tourism Western Australia describes Captain Cook Cruises’ Perth to Fremantle and Swan Valley routes, which include scheduled lunch, dinner and scenic cruises. Those routes are a good fit for a relaxed afternoon or evening out. Timetables change, so ask the operator for the current schedule before choosing a date.
Food-focused
Food experiences are the easiest to personalise, but they are also the most likely to have date and venue conditions attached.
Seafood lunch on Rottnest
Tourism WA describes Rottnest Cruises’ seven-course seafood lunch. The operator information it cites gives an October to April operating period, with departures from Thomson Bay. Check that the intended date falls inside that window, and treat it as operator information rather than a permanent schedule.
Rank #2
Dining on Rottnest
The Rottnest Island Authority’s gift guide says its vouchers can be redeemed for oceanside dining, tours, overnight stays and ferry transfers. It names Isola Bar e Cibo and Samphire Rottnest among the operators. The guide does not set out venue-by-venue terms, so ask the venue whether a voucher bought through the Authority is accepted there before you gift it.
Wildlife and water
Rottnest Island is the most practical base for this category, because the island’s snorkelling, cruising and wildlife experiences sit close together.
Snorkelling and sailing
The Rottnest Island Authority names Rottnest Snorkel among its gift guide operators. Rottnest Express lists snorkel and flipper hire, snorkel and sail, and boat tours among its day packages, with per-person prices shown on its page. Confirm what each package includes, particularly whether equipment and transfers are part of the price.
Rank #3
Swimming with dolphins
Tourism WA’s 2021 gift article used dolphin swimming in Rockingham as an example. That article is historical, so confirm that a current operator runs the activity and check its availability before buying.
Adventure
Adventure gifts carry the most conditions, so they are best chosen with the recipient’s fitness and comfort in mind.

Rottnest activities
Rottnest Express lists bus tours, Segway tours, bike hire, skydiving and seafood cruises among its day packages. The skydiving and Segway options are the most likely to carry participant age or health requirements, so check those before you buy. Rottnest Air-Taxi is also named in the Authority’s gift guide if the recipient would prefer to fly to the island.
Rank #4
Short escape
An overnight stay turns a day out into a trip, and the logistics are the main planning point.
Rottnest overnight
The Rottnest Island Authority says its vouchers can be redeemed for overnight stays and ferry transfers. Its gift guide names Hotel Rottnest and The Lodge Wadjemup as accommodation operators. A ferry transfer adds time and cost, so decide whether the voucher covers the transfer or only the stay.
Further afield
Tourism WA’s 2021 article used a Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge stay and an Aboriginal cultural tour in Cygnet Bay as examples. Both are in WA’s far north, in the Kimberley, so they are not short escapes from Perth. Budget for the flight time and cost before treating them as a gift option.

Checklist before you buy
- Eligible experiences: confirm whether the voucher covers one specific activity or a broader category.
- Expiry: note the validity period and set a reminder for the recipient.
- Blackout dates and seasons: check for restricted dates and seasonal windows, such as the October to April cruise period.
- Booking lead time: find out how far ahead the recipient must book and whether bookings are made online or by phone.
- Participant requirements: check age and health conditions for flights, skydiving and water activities.
- Location and transport: establish whether a ferry or flight is included, and whether the recipient needs to travel from Perth to the departure point.
- Weather cancellation: ask what happens to the booking if a flight, cruise or ferry is cancelled.
- Refunds and transfers: confirm whether the voucher can be refunded, exchanged or transferred to another experience if plans change.
What the sources do and do not establish
Tourism Western Australia’s Managing Director, Carolyn Turnbull, said in an article published on 15 November 2021: “Giving a tourism experience is so much more memorable and meaningful than giving a physical gift and in WA we really are spoiled for choice when it comes to the adventures on offer.” That is an opinion from the tourism body, and the article is nearly five years old, so treat its examples as illustrations rather than current listings.
No reliable market-size or survey figure on experience gifting in Perth was found in the sources reviewed, so this guide does not cite one. The figures that do appear are operator-page details: voucher validity, operating periods and listed prices, each as stated on the pages checked in 2026. A shopper on Reddit asked for restaurants and experiences they could buy a voucher for, and for lesser-known things to do in the city. That is one person’s wording, and it shows the kind of search this guide is written for rather than how common such searches are.
