YouTube Audio Library (Free) includes a substantial collection of free-to-use worship and instrumental Christian music. This is your starting point. Upload an unlisted test video, search “gospel,” “worship,” “hymn,” and “Christian instrumental,” and you’ll find dozens of tracks. All are royalty-free and require no permissions.
The tradeoff is novelty. YouTube’s library updates monthly, but if you rely solely on it, your playlist will repeat faster than a secular music channel. It’s insufficient as a primary source but essential as a baseline.

CCLI issues mechanical licenses for streaming use. A basic CCLI license for non-commercial worship use is $120-200 per year. If you’re a pastor or church leader streaming for your community, CCLI is the correct path. If you’re a solo creator building a channel, stick with Epidemic Sound’s licensing.
Hymnary.org and Public Domain Hymns (Free): Most classical and traditional hymns are in the public domain. If you find a hymn recorded by an artist, check whether that specific artist’s arrangement is in the public domain (usually yes if recorded before 1927). Building a Worship Playlist That Retains Viewers
Worship listeners come for sustained spiritual atmosphere, not novelty. Retention comes from:
Consistent mood throughout the stream. Don’t mix high-energy praise songs with contemplative instrumental prayer. If your loop is contemplative, keep it contemplative. If it’s uplifting, maintain that energy.
No sudden volume changes or jarring transitions. A viewer might leave the stream playing in the background while they work or study. A loud song after a quiet instrumental will startle them and potentially lose them to a competitor’s channel.
Genre consistency. A loop that mixes traditional hymns, modern worship, and contemporary Christian rap will sound chaotic. Pick one lane: traditional hymns, modern worship, instrumental prayer, or contemporary gospel. Keep the loop in that lane.
A typical structure for a 6-hour worship loop:
– Minutes 0-15: Opener—a calm instrumental that sets the tone
– Minutes 15-300: Steady rotation of 25-35 songs, 5-7 minutes each, building gradually
– Minutes 300-360: Finale—calming, introspective tracks that fade into a loop restart

A key advantage of worship channels is audience engagement. Viewers leave comments, send Super Chats, and return repeatedly. This requires minimal moderation:
Monitor the comments section (or hire a moderator) to remove spam and off-topic posts. Worship channels attract genuine community, but they also attract bots and advertisers.

Respond to Super Chats with a simple message. You don’t need to be live; you can batch-reply once a day. This builds connection and encourages repeat donations.

The Visual Component
For worship content, the visual can be simpler than other genres because viewers are often not looking at the screen. However, aesthetics still matter:
Option 1: Still image with metadata. A serene background (nature, light, abstract) with the current track’s title and artist overlaid. This requires almost no design work and works well.
Option 2: Lyric display. For hymns or well-known worship songs, display the lyrics line-by-line as the song plays. This adds value for viewers unfamiliar with the song. Use a simple serif font on a dark background. Free tools like Open Lyrics or Simply Lyrics can automate this.
Option 3: Ambient visuals. A slowly-moving nature scene (forest, ocean, sky) or abstract animation that loops throughout the stream. This is aesthetically superior and justifies longer viewer retention, but requires more design work or stock video licensing.

Export your video in H.264 at 1080p30, matching the total duration of your playlist loop. A 6-hour loop becomes a 6-hour video file. Test it locally first—play it three times in a row and listen for any stutter or audio pop at the transition point. A clean loop is essential.
Monetization Expectations
YouTube requires 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time in 90 days before monetization. A 24/7 stream hits 4000 hours in about 170 days.

Worship music has complex copyright. Most modern worship artists register with YouTube’s Content ID system, meaning YouTube will detect their music and claim the revenue stream.
This is not a problem if you’ve licensed the music through Epidemic Sound or a direct license. Epidemic Sound’s license includes Content ID clearance—YouTube will claim the revenue, but Epidemic Sound and you share it correctly.

The risk comes if you source music incorrectly. Never record a song from a Christian radio station, a church service, or a Sunday worship broadcast and upload it to YouTube. These are copyrighted performances, and copyright claims will result in demonetization or strikes.
