The figures establish useful context about World Chain and WLD supply, but they do not verify that these market moves happened over the same interval—or that one caused another.
Did WLD rally while Bitcoin fell below $85,000?
The exact WLD rally interval, a matching Bitcoin move below $85,000 and a catalyst for the price action are not established by the sources available for this article. A sound comparison would require historical WLD and BTC prices from a named exchange or reliable market-data provider, measured over the same UTC start and end times. Without that matched series, the headline’s price comparison should be treated as unverified rather than a confirmed market event.
Even if both price moves were confirmed, timing alone would not show that a rise in World Chain activity or value locked caused WLD to appreciate. Token prices can move for many reasons, and the cited sources do not establish a causal link.
What the World Chain value figures measure
DeFi TVL: a volatile dashboard snapshot
DefiLlama’s World Chain dashboard showed $44.2 million in DeFi total value locked (TVL) and a 24-hour change of +9.97% when accessed on October 3, 2026. Those numbers are a time-sensitive snapshot, not evidence of the value locked during the unverified market interval in the headline. DefiLlama’s World Chain dashboard can change as deposits, withdrawals and asset prices change.

TVS is not DeFi TVL
L2BEAT separately reports World Chain’s total value secured (TVS), listing assets including WLD, bridged USDC, ETH, WBTC and sDAI in a snapshot timestamped 7:00 a.m. UTC on October 3, 2026. TVS and DeFi TVL are different measures; they should not be combined or described as though they were the same figure. Their asset coverage and valuation methods may differ, so a comparison should identify the provider, metric and timestamp. L2BEAT’s World Chain page provides the TVS view.
A change in a dollar-denominated TVL figure can also reflect changing token prices as well as deposits or withdrawals. It does not, by itself, demonstrate that more tokens entered the chain or that WLD demand increased.

World Chain’s relationship to World and WLD
World Chain is World Network’s Ethereum Layer 2. An SEC filing says it launched on October 17, 2024, after which World App users and WLD activity migrated from OP Mainnet. The filing also discusses concentration and liquidity risks associated with WLD. Those risks matter when interpreting sharp price moves: token markets can be volatile, and a chain-level value metric is not a guarantee of token performance. The SEC filing describes the launch and related risks.

World said that as of April 10, 2026, 4.9 billion WLD had been unlocked, with 3.3 billion in circulation. It also announced that aggregate daily unlocks would decrease by about 43% on July 24, 2026—from roughly 5.1 million to 2.9 million WLD per day under existing schedules. Unlocks continue after that change; it is not an end to token releases. World’s announcement gives the dated supply figures and schedule.

These figures describe token supply and scheduled releases. They do not establish that the unlock change triggered a WLD rally, nor do they prove that supply changes caused any particular market move.

How to assess a claim linking WLD, TVL and BTC
- Match the time window: Compare WLD and BTC using the same UTC start and end times, and identify the venue or data provider.
- Name the metric: Distinguish DefiLlama DeFi TVL from L2BEAT TVS rather than calling both “value locked.”
- Check the measurement details: Note the timestamp, included assets and valuation method; a dollar total can rise or fall with token prices.
- Separate correlation from cause: Simultaneous moves do not demonstrate that TVL changes caused WLD’s price movement.
- Account for token risk: Unlock schedules, liquidity and concentration are relevant context, but none predicts a particular price direction.
