Official Philippine sources for senior high school Work Immersion do not establish a single national final exam, answer key, or standard test format. Your grade comes from the course requirements your school sets: pre-immersion preparation, the work placement itself, and post-immersion outputs, especially a portfolio. The study approach below is built around those official requirements, so you can prepare for what the course actually asks for and then confirm the exact coverage and grading with your teacher.

What the official sources say about a final exam

The governing document is DepEd Order No. 30, s. 2017, the guidelines for implementing work immersion in senior high schools (posted 5 June 2017). The companion K to 12 Senior High School Work Immersion curriculum guide (April 2017) describes the course’s aims, competencies, and activities. Neither describes a standardized national examination. The DepEd Learning Portal’s Work Immersion Worksheet listing (published 12 January 2022) is a PDF workbook that covers the same workplace topics.

That means a question such as “What is on the Work Immersion final exam?” has no single national answer. A school may use a written test, a quiz on the workbook topics, a rubric for the portfolio, or a combination. Treat any review sheet you receive as your school’s version of the requirements, not as a national exam specification.

What Work Immersion is meant to teach

According to the curriculum guide, a Senior High School student has to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s postsecondary goal. The aim is to become familiar with a work environment and strengthen competence in the specialization.

The stated learning aims fall into five groups:

  • Practical industrial skills and the application of school principles and theories.
  • Technical knowledge related to the specialization.
  • Communication and human relations.
  • Good work habits and attitudes.
  • Work ethics, workplace safety, workplace rights and responsibilities, confidentiality, conflict resolution, and teamwork.

The last group is where most of the course’s reflective and workplace-conduct content sits, and it is the most useful place to focus your review.

How many hours you need

The curriculum guide states “at least 80 hours.” A DepEd announcement dated 5 March 2018 says the subject is not limited to 80 hours and describes three delivery models. Which model applies depends on the learner’s purpose and needs, the school’s capabilities, and relevant compliance requirements.

Hours Source and status What the sources say about the model
80 hours Minimum stated in the 2017 curriculum guide; also named in the 2018 announcement Selection depends on learner purpose, school capability, and compliance. Details of the activities for this model are not stated in the sources reviewed.
240 hours Delivery model described in the 2018 DepEd announcement Same selection factors as above. Activity details not stated in the sources reviewed.
320 hours Delivery model described in the 2018 DepEd announcement Same selection factors as above. Activity details not stated in the sources reviewed.

Because the 2018 announcement is the most recent of these national statements in the sources reviewed, ask your school which model it is running this school year. Do not assume your placement will match another student’s schedule.

The three stages of the course

The curriculum guide organizes the course into three stages. Each one produces records you may be asked to show, so it helps to know what belongs where.

Stage 1: Pre-immersion

  • Expected behavior and work ethics.
  • Safety and health at the workplace.
  • Workplace rights and responsibilities.
  • Confidentiality.
  • Conflict resolution and teamwork.
  • Rules of the placement and the terms of the memorandum of agreement.
  • Résumé preparation, application forms, required clearances or certificates, and interview skills.

Stage 2: The immersion itself

You perform assigned work-related tasks and record them as you go. Keep these records complete and dated, because they become the raw material for your later portfolio.

Stage 3: Post-immersion

  • Presenting a portfolio that includes weekly diary entries.
  • Comparing how you applied competencies at school and at the workplace.
  • Updating your résumé.
  • Writing a reflection on the experience.

Review checklist for the course content

Use this list to check whether you can explain each topic in your own words and give a concrete example from your placement or a realistic scenario.

  • Work ethics and expected workplace behavior.
  • Workplace safety and health, including the practices your site requires.
  • Workplace rights and responsibilities.
  • Confidentiality of information you handle during placement.
  • The rules and memorandum-of-agreement terms that apply to your placement.
  • Conflict resolution and teamwork.
  • Applying your specialization knowledge and skills in a real work setting.
  • Keeping task records and reflecting on what you learned.
  • Presenting portfolio evidence and comparing school and workplace application of skills, knowledge, and attitudes.

Practice prompts for self-study

The prompts below are study aids written for this guide. They are not official exam questions and may not match your school’s test.

  • Give an example of a workplace safety practice and explain why it matters.
  • Describe how you would handle confidential information during your placement.
  • Explain one difference between applying a skill in class and using it at the work site.
  • What belongs in a work immersion portfolio, and how can diary entries show learning over time?
  • Describe a constructive way to respond to a disagreement or a teamwork problem at the placement.

Building a portfolio that holds up

The curriculum calls for a portfolio with weekly diary entries and supporting documents. A three-ring binder or a labeled folder works well for keeping everything in one place. The curriculum does not require a particular binder, printed format, or brand, so follow whatever your teacher specifies.

  • Keep a dated weekly diary with the tasks you performed, what you learned, and any problems you handled.
  • Store copies of application forms, clearances or certificates, and the signed memorandum of agreement.
  • Keep your current résumé and note the changes you made after the placement.
  • File workplace evaluations or acknowledgments if your school or site issues them.

Why no pass rate is published for this course

You may see a figure from a 2018 DepEd announcement stating that 1,475 of 1,477 Region III learners who voluntarily took a National Certification Assessment passed, reported as 99%. That result concerns a regional, voluntary certification assessment. It is not a Work Immersion pass rate and says nothing about final exam outcomes. The official sources reviewed contain no nationally representative statistic on Work Immersion exam results.

If your school gives you a test: how to confirm what to study

Because the national sources leave the test to your school, verify the details directly. Work through these steps before your first review session:

  1. Ask your Work Immersion teacher which delivery model (80, 240, or 320 hours) your class is following.
  2. Request the school’s assessment plan, including whether the grade uses a written test, a quiz, a portfolio rubric, a performance evaluation, or a mix.
  3. Confirm the test coverage. Ask whether it includes only the pre-immersion topics or also the placement and post-immersion outputs.
  4. Ask for the grading breakdown and the deadline for submitting the portfolio.
  5. Check the DepEd Learning Portal for the Work Immersion Worksheet and use it alongside your teacher’s materials, not in place of them.

If a teacher gives different instructions from an online guide, follow the teacher. Your school’s requirements control your grade.

Current status of the official materials

The main official documents date from 2017, the worksheet listing from 2022, and the hours announcement from 2018. Policy and curriculum content is well established, but how a school applies it in a given year can change. Confirm current requirements with your school before you rely on any date, hour count, or format described here.
